Well... yeah. Tons. In fact, I think he's way to picky for his own good.
It's his job.
Plenty of critics aren't picky, they just know how to detail what is good and bad about a game. Then again, he's more of a comedian, so you're partially right there...

... But, honest question here, does the Escapist pay him?

Actually, his reviews are normally accurate. I disagree with his ideas on some games, but for the most part he seems to understand games more than other reviewers (such as when he was the only one to point out that GTA4 sucked). But I've liked some games that he died, such as SSBB and Spore.

The vast majority of games I like are games he (either definitely or most likely) hates. Hell, most of the games he likes are either so-so (Half-Life 2 and Portal, among others) or excruciatingly dull (I'm looking at you, No More Heroes) to me. The only games that come to mind that we both like to some extent are Super Mario Galaxy and Bioshock.

Most certainly. I have read/listened to many of his reviews and have yet to find one about a game he really liked. I haven't seen all of them because after the first twenty or so that I watched, I got tired of it and haven't seen any new ones for a while. The way his reviews are presented is clever and fun to watch, but his narratives are so full of bile and griping that I don't care for them.

Yahtzee probably isn't as bad as you think. For example he seemed to not like Brutal Legend in his video. But when he talked with GameX he said he's been playing alot of it. What I'm saying is that complaining is his job, don't take him too seriously.

As for games I liked well, the Fable twins come to mind, so do Oblivion, Fallout 3, and FEAR 2. I could go on but I'd probably end up with a list of about 75% of the games he's reviewed.

I take his reviews somewhat seriously. Not whether he liked the game or not, but the fact that he finds EVERYTHING that is wrong with a game, unless he liked the game then the review is rather useless. If there happens to be something that I can't stand in games, I avoid it.

That said, I like several games he didn't.

sometimes, but i generally agree with his critiques.

Like Turok, It was the worst game i'd ever played, and then i watched his review and found him complaining about the very same things that pissed ME off.

I guess we just have similar taste though.

then again, a game like Turok is undefendable in it's horribleness. You'd have to have been an idiot to have enjoyed it.

and let the hate mail from every thicky on the escapist commence

I've never seen his reviews so I can safely say I probably do.

Most of them actually. The most recent one was Dark Messiah. I saw the entire walkthrough on Youtube and liked it a lot.

I find his complaints about most games to be fairly accurite but that doesnt stop me from enjoying the games.

I know this will be lost almost immediately if I don't use big text, so I hope I don't get put on probation for doing so.

[HEADING=1]Yahtzee is not a reviewer, he is a critic.[/HEADING]

And yes, there is a difference. A reviewer gives his general impression over a particular book/movie/game, rather than going into intricacies and doesn't analyze all the technical details of the material.

A critic, on the other hand, goes out of his way to do what a reviewer doesn't. His job is to analyze the work from a technical perspective, hence why Yahtzee places much more importance on specific points about the game, rather than what his overall impression is. It is his JOB to find all the faults in the work, regardless of whether or not he liked it (hell, I'm fairly sure he said this himself in one of his episodes).

Granted, I'm not sure why I'm really defending him seeing as he doesn't know or care who I am.

Mass Effect
Oblivion
Halo 3
Mirror's Edge

Amongst others. I prefer when he bashes games that I don't like (or I imagine I wouldn't like) but his reviews funny regardless. I find it pretty easy to not get hung up on what he says.

Obviously. Yahtzee almost never gives a good review on a game. A new review must be posted every week or so, so it's not like he could immerse himself in a really nice RPG when playing an FPS for 12 minutes would be so much easier since there is really no plot to follow. Not to say that Yahtzee doesn't hate complicated plots. I'm thinking he does...
