You ever liked a game that Yahtzee didn't?

I'll admit it is not the best Action RPG I played (That title goes to "Torchlight"), but I found "Fable 1" a lot of fun.

"The World Ends With You" (TWEWY) is another game I really enjoyed from beginning to end. I don't have much tolerance for anything drooling with Anime, which is something a lot of JRPGs go for ("Master's of Monster Lair" had an interesting concept...but man was the "anime" sickened me). However I thought the points Yahtzee makes on TWEWY were valid and something I can see--actually in any JRPG. Still, the game is enjoyable regardless of his opinion.

On the other hand, there are some games Yahtzee reviews that I actually played and agree with (I'm looking at you, "Phantom Hourglass"!).

SSBB is maybe the only one I liked that he downright hated, but he kinda gave a so-so to Gears of War 2 didn?t he?

But I still like yahtzee because he?s funny and he makes me think about certain things in games I normally don?t see.

I really liked Umbrella Chronicles (I know that Gamesmaster Magazine claimed it was frustrating as well, but I thought it was fine apart from the last level, which should arguably be hard).

Being both a big JRPG fan AND a lover of Super Smash Bros. Brawl (or beat-'em-ups in general, for that matter), I think I can say that there's a few.

Considering he likes Portal and.....erm....................erm, I'm drawing blanks here, yes.
HEY Portal is a good game. I like it

OT: I don't know, I liked Spore it was ok, yahtzee seemed to hate it. I felt like the creature stage and civ stage were too short. And that tribal is like jumping in a bareel of dynamite with a lit match, but i liked it.

I like alot of games he doesn't. I have no preference in games I just play what i enjoy. Yahtzee probably likes the games alot more than he says. He just focuses on the tiny aspects that annoy him to such an extent its comedic! I love watching zero punctuation but I wouldn't ever take it seriously.

You should learn to form your own opinion. Reviews are subjective and every person is different. In all honesty, Yahtzee is the pickiest gamer on the planet and really gets over because of his sarcastic approach. When he's right, he's right.(Saint's Row 2, Prototype) But when he's wrong, he's dead wrong! (Ghostbusters, Soul Calibur IV, his endless love of point and click adventures.)

Of course, I always say that the a reviewer can give me information. But only I'm gonna make the call whether or not to purchase a game. You should probably refine your tastes and do more research before committing to a game. Because if you're playing it because one guy told you to, you're likely to miss out or be mislead.

And blind love of Yahtzee will probably garner no reciprocation, since he hates fanboys more than anything. Especially the ones who worship him.
Yahtzee may hate fanboys but he certainly doesn't hate praise, haha. I think I'm safe. To be sure, I'll just call him a butt plug. Yahtzee is a butt plug.

I think this points to the fallacy of this entire discussion. When does Yahtzee ever really say he likes or hates a game? He points out the parts that he liked, and he points out the parts that he didn't like. Occasionally you'll get a very clear 'this game is a pile of shite' statements like in SSBB or whatever the proper abbreviation is, but he doesn't give a thumbs up or thumbs down or an arbitrary score.

His reviews are more about pointing out the flaws in even good games, so that we as gamers and maybe even developers can see that we don't want to be forced into quick time events, games based entirely around crap multiplayer, or other bad game design elements.

I approve of his method because so many reviewers and critics spew endless praise over a game they decided they like (Halo 3) without ever mentioning the glaring flaws. Yahtzee is the one place I can come and I know that if a game has a part that is annoying, tedious, frustrating, or just plain bad - he'll tell it like it is. Or I could go to Gamespot and trust the glowing reviews of whoever happens to be advertising on their site.

Also I obviously have my own opinions, having said I liked Oblivion where he did not. But every flaw he mentioned in his review is legitimate.

He pointed SSBB out for the stinking pile of faeces that it truly is, get over it fanbois.

All of his reviews have at least a degree of truth in them, for example even though I love MassEffect what he says about the driving sections is entirely true and combat can be a quite weak.

Yeah, but I suffer from this condition called free will.

It's a total pain in the ass.

I think he can be a serious game reviewer, occasionally. Sometimes the nitpicking and over the top insults to a game are somewhat warranted because the game did not pay enough attention to detail. That certainly doesn't mean I have never disagreed with his opinion. I liked Oblivion a lot. I enjoyed The Force Unleashed (I had the PS3 version, mind you). And I'm not sure if it is just because my friends and I tend to be rather big Beatles fans, but whenever we play the Beatles Rock Band we have plenty of fun and tend to want to play the Bealtes Rock Band more than the regular Rock Band 2. So, yes there are plenty of times I disagree with Yahtzee.

Actually, come to think of it, I can't think of a game which he said was bad that I'd actually disagree with...
I can think of a few that I might have given a more positive review than he did (Assassin's Creed) and few I might have hated more (Brutal legend). But still, that's a matter of taste, he prefers Doom-esque "first-person-fuck-you-up" games above all else and I prefer western rpgs and adventure games.

So actually, no, I've never disagreed with him about whether or not a game was good.

I have a few semantic arguements I disagree with him on, like quick-time-events (which I actually like).
And even that can likely be explained by taste. First person shooting is "Ok, all the dudes are dead, here's a space-filling cutscene while you take your next hit." Whereas qte's tend to try for emmersion (though it's true, no few of them fail).

Bottom line: Remember that Yahtzee has his genre preferences and biases like we all do, so take his reviews with a grain of salt; but he's still not talking out of his ass.

Most of the games I like were bashed down by him. However, all his recommendations are usually great games, so still love his reviews :X !
