I've got to say that I like being in a dark room, with just the glow from my monitors and external hard drive

Definitely a dark room, on a cool night (big plus if it's raining) and a nice comfy couch with snacks and drinks nearby. Though from what I've read that's pretty much what most gamers enjoy.

Depends on the type of game.

I like my RPG's bright and cheery, a-la Oblivion

I like my FPS's foreign and and loud

Can't think of any more...

I didn't think so many people liked rainy ambiance as much as I did. :)

When I was a kid, rainy days always put me in the mood to start a new game in LoZ: A Link to the Past. It's rainy, atmospheric beginning, aside from already being a staple in my epic gaming memories, is so much more enhanced.

I'm a person who is the majority of the time hosting guests, partying/chilling with friends, and I love my private/gaming time.
My favourite environment is, again, to be alone. I only seem to play games late at night, into the early hours of morning. I love the rain.. love it. (not only is it atmospheric, but makes me feel less bad about not being out, doing, stuff... works all round)
I like a warm soft light, warm, or cold with a blanket, & depending on situation either a steady supply of beer & fruit, or tea/hot chocolate.

That's my ideal time

Nothing better than sitting by a warm fireplace while snow is falling silently outside the window. That's perfect for anything, really: it's great for reading a book, and it's great for playing video games. Especially story-based ones. I also tend to use my headphones, even when there's no one else around. It simply sounds better, especially when I'm playing a shooter or something where stereo really comes into play: headphones do a pretty good job of using stereo to emulate surround sound.
yeah I always like playing games when its snowing outside.

Ooooh, i love playing in a tunder storm, in mid day with my windows open, the air that comes in smells amazing (soaked earth, i just love it)and the wind is really cool, it makes me go all zen listening to the tunder and the rain falling and crashing to my windows

too bad i have to dry everything up after the storm stops, but hell if it isnt worth it

Dark, windows open (even in winter, I game better when I'm cold). Sit on my bed or the couch. Bad weather outside is always a pro (Don't care which kind; rain, snow, thunder or ridiculously high temperatures (I call that bad weather) all's fine with me).

Cold, rainy, muddy, damp and wet outside

That way I don't feel guilty for sitting in front of a screen all afternoon

As long as it's not sunny. I game in the basement, but if it's sunny I feel like going outside and enjoying it. Otherwise, pretty dark I have a lamp so it's a nice soft light no glare on the tv.

Quiet. Very, very quiet.

Except for the game obviously. It helps if there's no one else around. Unless it's Aliens Versus Predator 2. Then I need someone around to make sure I'm not going insane.

It also helps if it's nice and warm, and I have a steady supply of snacks.
I too like it quiet, i usually only play when no one else is about.

Except i don't eat while playing which is likely to end with me looking like this

I want my location to be as close to a dark, isolated bubble as possible.
