I would murder the shit out a bunch of people and have a great time.

Then... then it's time for a drink.

I would rid the world of all politicians. Its a dead practice they no longer need and I've yet to ever know or hear of a politician who's intents are obviously for the betterment of human kind. Every politician's motives are self perpetuating. I don't need a politician to decide if we need more hospitals, the number of sick people can do that. And i don't need a politician to tell me whether or not schools need more funding, the massive drop in student pass rates tell me something needs fixing.

I haven't seen Death Note, so I don't know all the particulars, except the heaven and hell thing I just read by the second poster and the put a name, person dies of your reasoning.

I'd probably seal it away somewhere until there was a point when someone really, really needed to die, like threatening all of humanity or my loved ones. Pass the book down to my child from then on.

There is no "L" in reality, so finding a Deathnote would be like being given the power to kill whoever you want. At least to my knowledge it would be, that and the way people would die would be so obscure that no one would ever trace it to the person using it. I myself? Probably would abuse it for my own personal means...at least right now, with the amount of upheaval in my life at the moment. I would probably use it for some good means, but not always. Compromising your moral beliefs is a slippery slope.

Being the sick puppy I am, I'd use the Deathnote to make the world my plaything. But first, I'd test it on an international figure and have them die in a manner that could only be possible with a Deathnote. For example, I'd have the Pope be hit by a small meteroite during his address to the people on Christmas day. Not because I have anything against him personally, but because then I'd know it had to be the Deathnote's doing. After that, I'd become the most sadistic prick this world has ever known. There's one idividual I've actually taken a bit of time to perfect how I'd have him die:

D**** T****, Compications due to AIDS
Arrested for assult in a bar. While in prison, he is repeatedly gang raped, contracting HIV from an inmate who did not know he was infected.

P.S. I actually have a cosplay Deathnote that I had autographed by Kirby Morrow, the voice actor who did Teru Mikami in the English dub (also the voice of Miroku on Inuyasha).

Considering one of the rules of the Death Note is that the user can neither go to Heaven nor Hell for eternity, I wouldn't use it.
Always wondered about that. Do they just cease to exist? Or do they go to some alternative afterlife.
That's a lot of power to turn up. Lot of good that could be done; lot of bad too. Tough question. I'm not even sure if I think it would be wrong to use it. I mean; if you killed someone you just didn't like then yeah, you're a prick. What about dictators though? Murderers on the loose? Heartless CEOs?
Do the ends justify the means? You might become the very thing you were trying to destroy.

tl;dr I dunno. Let's hope I never come upon a death note.

Seeing as nobody as smart as L exists in real life: I'd cover my tracks as best i could and basically do what Kira did, but on a world wide scale so that I'm harder to track.

No-one does, so we may as well have fun. Technically you wouldn't go to Heaven anyway because of your sexual preferences.
It's not referring to the Christian Heaven and Hell, but the Shinto one, which is more of a concept than anything else. Just sort of like 'Paradise' and well.. 'Hell'. So if there was a Death Note, there would at least be these concepts of 'Paradise' and 'Hell' and I'd rather not be trapped in the Shingami world, which I would be if I used the Death Note.

As for my sexual preferences.. Erm.. <.<
This thread idea sounds fun, but I've never watched whatever show this death note thing is from, so I don't know how it works (I assume you write a name and that person dies?) and I have no clue what the Shingami world is (if it isn't heaven or hell is it like a combination world, like earth except with immortality? or is it limbo where everything is neutrality forever or something?).

If I had a Deathnote, I would make use of it in a vengeful and often silly way. People who've turned against me would perish horribly, Bob Dylan would be impaled on his guitar, and certain people in charge of certain things in the world would uhh...vanish if they can't smoothe out the world's problems. Oh, and I believe this would be the end of unemployment for me. Find someone who owns a place and get them to hire me by saying they'll hire me before they end up dead.
