You have the power to cut off one state from the U.S.

I can really feel the love. Don't worry, Texas loves you too.

I'd say Idaho or Montana. Not because I have anything against the states, but just because I can't think of an impact it would make.
dont worry, we depend on you Texans if zombies or China attacks (because we all know the people on the west coast are going to do jack)!

Well, some of the people were decent, but I have never met ruder employees of restaurants, toll booths, the police, even the fire department and EMTs are just plain annoying.

I'll admit, the people I got to know ended up being relatively nice, but it's how you treat strangers that really tells you what kind of person you are. Making a pregnant woman cry for no reason other than to watch her cry (I'll throw another quote here, said to a native of the state at the DMV; "Ma'am, this is New Jersey. You bend over and take it or get out.") is not something a nice person does to someone else. Ever.
Again, strangers. "It's a dog eat dog world" may as well be our unofficial state motto.

IDK, I think the way you treat strangers says little. A lot of it comes down to societal expectations. In a lot of the country you're expected to smile and wave, regardless of your actual feelings.

NJ consistently ranks very low on suicide rates, so we're doing something right when it comes to how we treat each other.
It also means that if anything happens to you dont expect the other states to lift a finger to help you.

I think that Texas is where Roosterteeth, Screwattack, and Funimation are based, so I would keep Texas. I would probably get rid of Mississippi, or Alabama, or something.

Psh, Venice Beach may become a wasteland the moment that Starbucks closes due to zombie attack, but you've obviously never been to Oakland. The suburbs there have more armament than all of Texas combined. It's very likely that when society is rebuilt, it will have a constitution that rehashes rap lyrics.

Come on, give us Alaska. We'll take are of it and we won't elect a Sarah Palin.
After this we can say HAHA to Russian now that they are no longer the largest nation in the world... right?
Still need a bit more (numbers from wiki):

Alaska: 1,717,854km^2
Canada: 9,984,670km^2
together: 11,702,524km^2

Russia: 17,075,400km^2

difference: 5,372,876km^2

So we would need a few more states... like all of them except Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi and Hawaii. This would make Canada around 78,000km^2 larger than Russia.

As to why I took the time to figure this out... well I wish I knew

Ok... time to get in touch with my inner economist AND evil heartless ruler...

Texas might be easy to make fun of, and I do wish textbooks that will go around the country were published somewhere else, but they do have a lot of natural resources, and they are the only "Red State" that gives more in federal taxes than they take. (outdated data, maybe one or two more do now.)

California creates more than enough methods to create revenue. It'd be a bit easier just to get rid of certain bits, but this is an all-or-nothing affair.

I'd say Mississippi. One would be hard-pressed to think of what they give that's worth anything, and they are one of the biggest financial burdens in the country, being one of only two states (once again, outdated data, that number may have increased) that takes more than $2 in federal aid for every dollar in taxes they pay.

Now for an impractical choice?
Florida. No real reason. Just for shits and giggles.

New Mexico. It is literally so worthless that we decided to test nuclear bombs there.

The Virginias, Dakotas, and the Carolinas. They get one chance to join back up or they leave.

WA state would be my pick. I live in WA. This would free us from the union and allow us to join up w/our brothers in Canada.

Otherwise - Mississippi.

Bye bye Texas. You finally get what you threatened to do 4 years ago and again this year. The reason all those names on the petition to have Texas secede were from other states is because we are tired of them ruining our schools (they buy more books than any other state, so the book makers cater to them) with your propaganda in everything that isn't math. Even in the science books they try to get everything that isn't creationism labeled as "unproven theory."

Why not just re-found the confederate states? Then we have no more arguments as to which state to remove from the U.S.

Also Then there would be a power shift in the global stage. Would be interesting if that were to happen.

And Yes I know that the Confederacy was not composed of only one of the United States but still.
Far more likely to happen.

California. There is not a single good thing that ever came out of it. Not one.

Yes, I'm perfectly aware of what that implies and entails.

Going to go with Florida. I swear there's a contest between Texas and Florida for the most asinine headlines.
