I'd hardly call that a boss fight, it was a set piece. One of the best set pieces ever, now that I think of it. Shamus Young had an article about the two different kinds of final boss fights, I'll see if I can find it. If not, here's a summary: two kinds of final bosses: those that conclude the story in a satisfying way, and those that are difficult. You generally can't have both, because dying a lot tends to ruin the story's pacing. Which one you prefer tends to depend on the root reasons for why you game, and neither is wrong.
