You know, I'd have to say this year felt a little dissapointing.

For all that went around, I kind of feel like the year was a step backward, sure I suppose it would be generally my own opinion. We ended up with multiple disappointments, and few gems. I guess some may say that, that's generally how it is sometimes, but it just felt a little off this year. I'm not saying all the games were bad, I mean I loved Catherine, Batman Arkham Asylum, Skyrim, Portal 2, Bullet Storm and Infamous 2.

On the other hand I also had the displeasure of playing, Duke Nukem Forever (which I think many other people did too, and it's totally winning an award of "Biggest disappointment"), Gears of war 3, Dead Island, F3EAR, Shadows of the Damned (I still love Suda51 but this felt weak), The 3Ds in general (MY EYES, MY EYES!), and Dragon Age 2. Even the arcade games felt weak this year, last year felt stronger, I mean look at Super Meat Boy and Limbo (countless others too)!

I'm not saying to agree with me, I just didn't feel the "love" this year, I hope next year is better, but if you have any feelings of disappointment this year, feel free to let it out, I'd totally listen.

However If I could say what I enjoyed the most this year, it falls down to, Catherine #1, Portal 2 #2, and Infamous 2 #3

Biggest disappointments: Gears of War 3, Dark Souls, and Duke Nukem Forever (However for some reason I already had a feeling after it's long development time, they realised the game sucked already, Gearbox just wanted it to get out of the way perhaps).

Yeah, I'd say it's a failure compared to last year, which had... Mass Effect 2. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SarcasmMode]

Well, that's not true - there was also Halo Reach and Bioshock 2, but those both split their respective fanbases. OK, so did ME2, but not quite as badly.

Still, it's undeniable that this year held far more blockbusters and genuinely interesting games than last year's lackluster library of wallpaper paste.
Oh, and lets add Skyrim, Minecraft, the now FREE version of Team Fortress 2, yeah, this year was a TOTAL faliure despite all of that. Oh, and Skyward Sword. Eyup, failure in every way.

It's ok Everyone has their own taste.

I 'sigh' try not to remember ME2, it's even worse when I bought the Limited Edition and felt ashamed...

I guess I can see your point, maybe I just felt more enthused when I was play Meat boy (My favourite game ever) and got distracted from the rest of the world.

Weak arcade. From dust and bastion want a word with you.

Sints row the third is also missing from your list.
Didn't like From Dust (sorry), Bastion that was a good one

Haven't tried Saints Row the third yet, I loved the previous two though, so I'll probably like it too!

I never said total failure, I just didn't enjoy all of them (which again I say that's just my own opinion) And Believe me I'd absolutely love to play Team Fortress 2 again if my computer wasn't so weak.

Also I'd have to argue just a tad on last year, last year we had quite a lot of good games, Just cause 2, Red Dead redemption, Super Meat boy (oh yeah), Limbo, Borderlands, No more heroes 2 (regardless of it's weaknesses I still liked it), Dead Rising 2, the third Birthday, Alan Wake, Amnesia etc. However I wont lie but last year had some really awful games too...

Yes, but only two of those you listed - Red Dead Redemption and Borderlands - were real blockbusters that got a lot of hype and talking about. My point was that this year had tons of big games and last year didn't. The quality of them all is, of course, subjective, but it's undeniable that this year was (and still is, it isn't over) much bigger as far as big-name gaming goes than last year.
Ohhhhh I see, I see. Yeah, then you're definitely right about that!

Dark Souls, Skyrim, Skyward Sword, Disgaea 4, Uncharted 3, Mario 3D.

Those are just a few games that came out in the past few months and I've loved all of them, those alone make some of the best gaming I've had in a very long time.

I'm sure we had a lot of good games earlier in the year too, I can't remember what came out when.

I demande you tell me why Dark souls was dissapointing. I find this statement outrageous.

OT: Yeah i know how you feel, but it's a matter of taste. I am a rpg gamer, So not much for me here.

Dissapointements. Dragon age 2, Agrest war zero, Dead island, MVC3 ( ultimate edition in the same year ! really capcom ?) SR3, BF3 , MW3, ( you guys seeing a batter here?) , Dead space 2 ,

Most enjoyed : Dark souls , Catherine , Skyrim ( in that order )

There is a lot of other games that came out this year that i haven'T played like Assassins creed, Infamous and Batman , so i won't judge those.

Dead Space 2, Portal 2, Skyrim, AC Revelations. All were pretty awesome.

Dragon Age 2 was about the only one I have in my "disappointed" bin, but I'll buy it whenever the Ultimate edition for it comes out, so it's not a complete failure (the combat was fun, armor was badass, and the voice acting was nice, the only real gripe was the re-used dungeons).

I would say that overall it was a pretty OK year, even if there weren't all ~that~ many titles I wanted.

My only disappointment with this year was that the industry returned to the practice of stuffing the holiday season with games and let the rest of the year go by with minimal releases. But the actual games I've played have been brilliant. I can't remember a Holiday season with this many great games that are all worthy of spending time with. I just wish I had more time to play all the games I ended up bringing home. I'm going to be a busy gamer up until February just with what I've already bought, and I had to skip several key games that I wanted but there were just too many.

I also think this year had the strongest Summer of Arcade and the PSN had plenty of great downloadables as well.

I respect your right to differ in opinion of course, but I cannot agree with you on it. I think this has been the strongest release schedul for gaming since 2007.

I think 2011 ended strong, though with lots of titles with 3 at the end but still. I don't think we went a step backwards really. That would be like having a rerelease of GTA III.. Oh wait..

Skyrim for some reason it didn't keep me in the game as much as I expected still a good game though.

I'm sorry, I honestly couldn't get into it, and I tend to love tough games that challenge you, Dark Souls didn't hit me.
