I have played ugly ass games which had graphics that aged like milk.

Dumbed down or not, bad gameplay is what kills a game. You're playing a game to PLAY it, not watch it.

Look at this:

Most people say it's ugly as sin. But if you want to destroy Soviet tanks it's the definitive answer.

Now look at this:

This is the creation of Gaston Glock. He did not have any experience in firearms yet he created what is arguably the best handgun in existence. Despite everyone hating how it looks.

AESTHETICS matter. Graphic technology does not. Halo 3, with its colors and interesting locales, looks a million times better than Modern Warfare 3, despite it coming out 4 years earlier.

Unfair comparison. The Call of Duty technology has been the same for years.
