It's not like these people would stop being "slacktivists" if they stopped using Facebook. It's just a "feel-good" thing, like the war on drugs.
One might argue that raising awareness of an issue is a valuable tool, whether or not there was a tangible or financial change. I believe the argument goes that we (people) have only so much mental real-estate and cannot remember or keep everything in mind. By reminding us of xyz, the issue is (even if only temporarily) brought back to the forefront. It's also why we're always bombarded by ads.JoJoDeathunter said:This reminds me of a similar pointless movement on Facebook where for a particular day lots of people changed their profile image to that of a cartoon character to be against child abuse, did nothing except show that many people are against abuse which isn't exactly a surprise, no actual donation or helping of charity involved.
In fact, ti kinda amuses me for exactly this reason.The_root_of_all_evil said:It's exactly the same as chain letters / pyramid schemes / Pass-this-on-or-the-booga-wooga-curse-will-get-you that have been going on since the Pony Express.
Ignore and move on.
Scientists have found that people who re-post crap from their friends' walls actually have, on average, 84.3% less brain mass than people who don't. The same study went on to show that 99.7% of people WON'T re-post this in their status. Show everybody how much of an individual you are by reposting, and then they'll see just how capable you are of making your own decisions and forming original thought without being influenced by stupid facebook spam
YES! This, so this! Click like to not give a crap... annoys the ever loving fuck out of me. Although if people hooked that particular like function up to peoples bank accounts (via Zynga maybe?) to give 50p for every like... not that would be pretty awesome.The_Blue_Rider said:Quotify
