Love it, love everything about it!

I hope Mass Effect 3 has that quote (well not that quote, but the original) playing all over the citadel. Especially in the elevators, which if I keep mentioning then they WILL bring them back.
I wouldn't mind if they brought back elevators. If they put them between areas you'd only need to travel through once it wouldn't be that big a deal. I miss those little squadmate interactions...

I am really hoping they bring back planet exploration as a key feature. Since they have already created the Hammerhead tank DLC there really should be no reason to leave it out. If they create outdoor environments such as those in the Firewalker and Overlord DLC it would really open up the game world again, while avoiding the sameness of ME1's wastelands.

ME2 was better than ME1, therefore it follows that ME3 will be better than ME2, simple maths really. So far I havent heard anything that makes me think this wont be the case. I did hear something about BioWare trying to improve the combat and im all for it, I found the combat to be the weakest part of the game, both in ME1 and 2.

So yeah, my prediction is its going to be pretty damn awesome.

What is a SWAT turn?
A SWAT turn, to the best of my understanding, is when you're standing with your back to a wall you you quickly turn to get out of cover.

Gears of War uses that a lot.

I agree with the planet exploration. But only if they can come up with jokes as funny or funnier than the uranus joke.

For those that don't know (have you been living under a rock?)

I have no opinion about the game yet, but one thing is for sure.

It will be nothing like ME1 or 2.

I'm staying optimistic, so I'm with you bro! I'm just relieved that Garrus is still in my party. Oh, how I love my Garrus.

Here's a list of what we KNOW:
- Combat will be more fluid with SWAT turns and rolls
- Some RPG elements are returning.
- Meaningless stats are gone and are being replaced with meaningful ones.
- Weapon Mods are making a return
- Melee will be improved.
- Emphasis on Z-Axis gameplay
- Larger environments with less chest-high-walls.

All of that sounds great!
Ah! Someone who's been reading the same press releases I have.

Sometimes I think people are just reading the first line and turning on the rage. This sounds like the best elements of both games mixed together - which is exactly what it should be.

Also, as far as "meaningless stats" - let me make a suggestion there.
In both ME1 and ME2, when I played an Adept, I had the opportunity to take a spell that made my enemies float in the air. At higher levels, they floated there for about 10 seconds. So, when I had the option to take an ability that would improve their hang time by 5%... I didn't want it. Why? Because if something was floating in the air, it was DEAD three seconds later at most. The rest of that hang-time was just cluttering up my field of view with a corpse.

That, my friends, was a meaningless stat. So no, I'm not particularly worried. No matter what they do to the combat or the inventory, I'm here for the story. And that is something they are the proudest of (but won't tell us because it would be a spoiler).

I laughed so hard when I first found that easter egg. I can't help but imagine what the look on Tricia Helfer's face was while reading that line.

With a tank named "the Hammerhead" I'm sure they can come up with something equally childish... and hysterical.

what are you basing this on?
a couple of screens and the promise that it will be dumbed down a appeal to brain dead monkeys?

Since there was supposed to be a fairly speculatory thread, I think I might do some speculating. I want this guy in, as a squadmate. Hell, I want to play as him.

And what are YOU basing the idea that it will be dumbed down from? I'd refute it myself, but it's been said better on this thread already, so here:

It'll be awesome, and no one doubts that; we're just sad that it sounds like less and less of an RPG every time we hear about it.
See, here's what I don't quite understand. In every single article and in multiple press releases, Bioware has gone on record to say that they're improving and bringing back RPG elements to Mass Effect 3.

Here's a list of what we KNOW:
- Combat will be more fluid with SWAT turns and rolls
- Some RPG elements are returning.
- Meaningless stats are gone and are being replaced with meaningful ones.

Ok, bla bla bla...
Mate. If 'the phantom menace' ever taught me anything, it's to never walk into a cinema with high expectations. Same thing for computer games. First we had Master of Orion which was great, then we got Master of Orion 2 which was epic. Then, along came Master of Orion 3 which was a giant turd.

Now, here we have ME1 which was good, ME2 which was really quite epic.

I'd like to point out that the story mostly made ME2 for me, the gameplay didn't feel all that tight for a shooter. RPG bits gave it some customisation and re-playability and it really add a lot of spice to the action that without it, would have been a pretty bland affair.

Now, not sure if I am reading it right, but if they remove the spice, even if they keep the cool storytelling, we are going to end up with a delicious looking meal, until you taste it. And then you will realise, that bland tastes like ashes.

However, I could be wrong, but with what happened to DA2, my expectations are really, really low. So however it plays out, I will most probably be positively surprised! Win for me!

Actually, this is an argument I have never understood.

In ME1, you could "scan" a planet. By mouse clicking on it and "poof" you got whatever collectible was on it. On a tiny handful of planets you could drop down and explore with the Mako. And that planet ALWAYS had an "Assignment" mission on it, even if it wasn't unlocked yet.

In ME2, you scanned a planet with the scanner. Yes, minigame, but one less annoying that the decrypt frogger of ME1, IMO. And then you'd find an anomaly on a tiny handful of planets where you could drop down and do an Assignment or Loyalty Mission. There's a very similar number of planets you can actually land on in ME2 to ME1 - the only difference is no Mako.

So, I wanted to ask - was it the Mako that you miss? Or the being able to drive around instead of going directly to the Assignment? Because the "scanner minigame" doesn't replace the driving around (it replaces the point-and-click scanner mechanic from ME1).

Trying to drive up random mountains in the Mako was always my least favorite part of ME1, so I'm sure I'm biased. Also I played ME2 before playing ME1, so I came at this from the opposite direction.

I think Mass effect 3 is going to end up being the best in the series, at least from a gameplay perspective, as all the information given so far is pointing to a hybridized version of ME1 and ME2 - ME2 but with more choice and depth, or ME1 with less complications and convolution.

I'm really looking forward to E3 and getting to see it in action.
How can you call ME1 convoluted? It was as straightforward as can be! Lvls and skill-points are bioware's bread and butter; if they ditch it, they'll ditch their entire heritage!

Your copy smelled like Marzipan!?
I should've bought a retail copy, damn.
Anyway, I must say, I'm sooooo keen for ME3, and hating on a game before it comes out is silly.

Couple of problems. The combat is far from juicy. It is the definition of simplicity and repetition.
OH MY GOD!! You played Mass Effect 3??! How did you DO this? I mean, I KNOW you won't something as stupid as "The combat is bad" without actually playing the game for even a second! So you MUST have played it. What'd you do?
/blatant sarcasm.

OT: I think it will be fine. It seems like they're addin' in quite a few new cool features.
Also, I have a strange feeling like EA is releasing all this perceptively shitty, but ambiguous, news just to lower the Hype for this game. Does anyone else see that?

Yes. Kind of. It did handle like arse (although thinking about it, I'd imagine it handles quite similar to an american muscle car with boosters on it), but the ability to go down and muck about on a fairly large section of planet made the galaxy feel big and varied. Just going straight to the same facility every time makes the place feel a bit small and like someone phoned it in. It was a vast improvement to get the hammerhead DLC and have a varied selection of environments to go about in and just have a bit of a gander round. I dislike it when games take away my pissing about time. The only mistake they made with ME1 and the Hammerhead pack for ME2 was not putting as much stuff on the planets to muck about with.
