Hello lovely people of the 'pist! The idea of this thread is to post something you are sure the majority of people have never heard of. It could be a fact, a band, or absoluuuutely anything. It should probably be interesting though.
I'll start: have you heard all the cool things about Europa?

I read this book about Japan for geijin (none japanese people) so I know a lot of stuff about Japan. lets see:
1: the Meiji Rostoration happend in 1868 and basically ended their fuedal system and the self imposed isolation
2: during Japans isolation only 3 countries were allowed to trade with them. China, Holland and Portugal
3: the capital of Japan was originally Kyoto before the Meiji Rostoration
4: Tokyo was originally called Edo
5: the only people you will see crossing the road when the man is red are Geijin sick of waiting and young members of the Yakuza trying to look badass
6: the Yakuza are one of, if not the largest organized crime sydicate still operating today.
7: being a member of the Yakuza is not illegal
8: If you live in Japan and are not Japanese born on your ID card you will have a small symbol on it meaning geijin or alien

if i got any of them wrong let me know because I'm doing this all by memory

Reminds me of another fact. Commodore (maybe an Admiral at the time) Matthew C. Perry -- who was not the same Commodore Perry who won the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812, that was Oliver Hazard Perry -- essentially extorted the Japanese to sign the Treaty of (I believe) Kanagawa, which gave the US the ability to trade and use two different Japanese ports without fear of oppression or causing conflict. When the Japanese leaders saw the size of Commodore/Admiral Perry's fleet, they realized they might get swallowed up in the wave of rising powers, and started the Meiji era.

CAPTCHA: get over it

Lol.

If you see somebody driving a funny looking car

they may be coming back from the airport. Or going there on a trip. Taking the car with them.

Because that's Transition. Ladies and gentlemen,

The code for every gene is prevalent in every cell of the body. The reason though that you don't, for instance, grow hair on your fingernail is that there is a genetic system known as "epigenetics" which controls the turning "on and off" of genes in particular parts of the body.

Theoretically, there is one person and one person only in the universe which has an IQ of 200.

That last sentence caught my attention. What's the rationale behind that?

New thing new thing - Squirrel habitats are called 'dreys'.

Here's ten interesting facts about an obscure 80's/90's British Alt-Rock genre I like called Shoegaze.

1. The Alternative Rock subgenre of Shoegaze is called it's name, because of how the performers stared at their shoes while working the effect peddles to create it's distorted sound.

2. Shoegazing evolved from Early 80's British Dream Pop and Noise Pop, with bands such as Spacemen 3, the Cocteau Twins, and the Jesus and Mary Chain. Bands such as The Smiths, and Galaxie 500 were also influences on the Genre.

3. My Bloody Valentine's Loveless (1991) took three years to make, cost a quarter of a million pounds, and nearly bankrupted it's label, Creation Records. It was well worth it though, as it's considering by many the Magnum Opus of the Genre, and it's also considered to be one of the best albums ever made.

4. The Verve, the band who sung the ever popular "Bittersweet Symphony" were originally a Shoegazing band in the early 90's.

5. The 1984 release of Treasure by the Scottish Dream Pop band, The Cocteau Twins, is arguably the first commercial album to display the Shoegazing sound. Albeit quite low key, especially when compared to the sound of the real Shoegaze bands that arrived later on.

6. Lost in Translation, the 2003 film starring Bill Marray, featured a Shoegaze soundtrack.

7. The Shoegaze band Catherine Wheel had Bruce Dickinson's (of Iron Maiden fame) Nephew as it's front man.

8. The genre is also called the "the scene that celebrates itself" because of how bands would visit each others shows.

9. Blackgaze, a Shoegaze and Black Metal fusion was created after the genre's decline. Bands include Jesu, and Les Discrets.

10. Despite the Genre's decline in the mid 90's, Shoegaze is still around. With recent bands such as The Horrors, Warpaint, Silversun Pickups, and A Place to Bury Strangers, all featuring the Shoegaze sound in their musical works.

Well the whole point of an IQ test is to rank ones IQ relative to that of the whole world. So, theoretically, a score of 100 is average and the extremes (0, 200) barely stay off of the X-axis of the graph of all IQs at 1. Standard Deviation, it is. The reason IQ tests don't work (well, there several reasons, but the one relevant to this fact..) is that there is no conceivable way to create a test where the average will certainly be 100 and 200 and 0 will only be hit by 1 person each.

Gee Wizz, that is darn splendiferous[footnote]Yes, I just used splendiferous in a sentence. Yes, splendiferous is a word. [/footnote]

1. The Band Guster was originally named Gus, until they went to sign with a label and found out someone else already had the name Gus, so they changed it and swore vengence on Gus should they ever meet him.
2. Several years later they met Gus and a fun time was had by all
3. The drummer Brain Rosenworcel played the majority of the earlier songs barehanded percussion. Even now he alternates between barehanded and conventional.
4. Guster commonly plays as their own opening act - the Peace Soldiers, a trio of redneck looking musicians until the addition of a fourth member when they opened as the jam banded Trippin' Balls
5. They have kept a road journal since 1999 for their fans.

Not about bands
1. At one point there were three (3) Popes simultaneously
2. Despite what most people think it was very common for people in medieval times to live to 80

The alien, from Alien, was going to be able to talk. It would be reveled at the end of the movie. An M-might-namalong, sort of twist.

Think pets rats get a bad wrap. Hate how people compare them to hamsters and chinchillas. Everyone is all grossed out by their tails, I say get over it.

Random rat facts activate.

1. They have the intelligence of a 4 year old.
2. Pet rats rarely bite, only doing so by accident when they think it's a treat.
3. They can learn tricks.
4. You can train them to use a litter box.
5. They will follow you and love being around people.
6. Wild rats and domesticated rats are not the same thing in terms of personality.
7. Male rats produce their own vitamin c.
oh...my god, its GROWING OUT OF YOUR HAND AHHH!!!

oh wait..no its not..

Ive always thourght the Idea of a pet rat was awsome..though my mother would never let that happen due to that deep inner hatred of rodents

really? that I didnt know

also I think in the third movie (or somthing) it was a thing where the alien inherits traits from the "host" it bursts from

this was to be the case with a dog...which ment they took some poor dog and dressed it up as an alein

which resulted in the most hilarious deleted footage ever...of an "aliensdog" trotting down a dark corridor...I cant remember where to find it but it just looks like they took a dog..dressed it up and got it to walk..which they did
