Just run Civ 5 with mods that add in magic and mythical creatures and a mod that lets you drop in as your avatar character and experience the world first hand any time you like. There, you have magic, potential for sex with npcs, exploring historical settings, and eventually sci-fi.

Mass Effect or Fallout or Deus Ex maybe. Or the Futurama universe. That'd be ballin'. Even the Blade Runner universe would be sick. I have an odd romantic soft spot for rain and dark cities.
If it had to be educational or based upon our reality, I'd love to travel back to the 60s to check out the music and hippie protest/university scene (and go have a beer with Marshall McLuhan), or maybe New York in the 80s, during the early days of techno and hip hop and graffiti culture.
