All of us have been wrong from one point or another. Few, however, dare admit it. Most of us refuse to accept when our views have been countered with rational arguments.
Well, that's counter-productive.
Most people say that "no-one ever changes their mind due to an inter-net forum discussion!".
Well, I believe that is untrue.
So, let's hear it from all of you, give me at least one time when you changed your mind, especially if it was due to an Internet debate.

I'll go first; I was wrong to assume that one could feasibly push for a 100% Gun-Control in the US. It's a silly idea. I've since moved to the more moderate idea of trying to control assault-weapons instead.

I never 'got' the whole MLP thing when it first took off, and I said some pretty stupid and ignorant things.

If anything, being part of the Escapist has given me a much more open mind about things I don't immediately understand.

There was a time, an ignorant period of my life, when I didn't believe that The Scorpion King 3 was the best movie ever. Shameful, I know, but it happened (and, coincidentally, was prior to its released).

Now you know. I'm sorry, #SK3!

I found his son, I found his son, I found hi---That's me!

It's happened a few times, but here's one I remember specifically.

Me, having not watched the Alien films (GASP!) said that it didn't really matter whether or not there were female marines in the multiplayer. I then changed my mind when I was told (by a few people, but they were all courteous about it) that female marines were a big thing in the Alien franchise, so I held my hands up and said "Fair enough, they should be in there then, if it's a big part of the franchise."

[sub]I still haven't watched the films yet! Although in fairness, this is in part due to a backlog of games AND a backlog of films[/sub]

Well, there were my communist days in early secondary, and for little while between that and now I was a bit misguided and aggressive in terms of politics.

Now my leanings are set in stone, and I keep my mouth shut about them.

I thought that DRM was good. It sucks.

This is a serious one, I watched the scorpion king 1 & 2 and liked them. I watched 3 and I still feel that I should have never attempted at watching. Damn my instinct to watch sequels.

I knew what you were going to say before I even read the post.

OT: I was wrong about anchovies. I used to hate them but now I can't eat enough.

I went from being a millitant atheist to someone who can bear most forms of religion - it wasn't any particular debate, but more a combination of lots of them. I was also massively for free-market capitalism a very long time ago, which I can see is naive now.

I used to really enjoy listening to the music of the Spice Girls way back in the 90's. If you don't know who they are you're lucky and do not go and look them up.

Considering I was born in 93 i'm going to spam the shit out of the "I was young! Don't judge me!" excuse.

Now I need to go and throw up a little.

More seriously, I used to take literally everyone on their word regardless of how retarded their arguments were. Don't know if I was just that gullable, too trusting in general or if I flat out could not be bothered to go and raise any doubts.

On a completely unrelated note I was way into conspiricy theories. I never really believed in them exactly, they're just interesting to listen too.

I never really believed in any religion either, even though I was sent to a Christian primary school. One of my first questions when moving on to secondary school was "do I have to sing hymns every morning in my next school?" I was ecstatic when my mum said no.

I used to listen to all the bible stories, take them in slightly since a few of them were interesting to go through then silently think "this is all metaphorical right? These people can't seriously believe this word for word."

Even then I found the idea of an old man in the sky implausable at best. I never bothered to consider it literally because I immediately considered it absurd.

Now I do like to believe in a reasonable amount of the values presented by Christianity. You know, don't be a dick, be nice, don't kill random people etc etc but if you need the presence of a god lurking over your shoulder to believe in these principles you're doing it wrong. I like to believe in the inherant good nature in people.

For anyone interested my current general idea on the subject of God it's essentially if he exists he's dead or insane. I've had that one for a fair few years now.

To add more fuel to the fire I would add that why should we blindly follow a god even if he revealed himself properly? What he created us and he's one powerful guy so we should just roll over for no good reason? What right does he have to command us anyway? According to the bible there are several examples of him acting like a petulant child who goes into a temper tantrum the moment things stop going his way. (Albeit a tantrum that floods the entire world.)

It's an interesting argument at least. I'd like to see if he could justify his right to rule in an open and reasonable debate. I wonder why people take it as read that a God has automatic ruling rights over humanity?

This is why I steer clear of the R&P forums! I don't know how well these opinions would go down over there...

I used to hate Star Trek. On principle. Because back then that whole Star Wars vs Trek thing existed.
Then I hated Star Trek because it was stupid. But it was actually my friend who was stupid, who made me watch Voyager. Voyager sucks.

However, it wasn't the internet that made me like Star Trek, it was Patrick Stewart, single-handedly. I loved him in the X-Men movies, then in whatever else he was in, then I started watching TNG all the way through. TNG is awesome.

Never bothered with DS9 though or cought up with TOS or thought much of Enterprise - they don't have Patrick Stewart in them, what's the point! :D

Biggest change for me on this forum was becoming less of a militant atheist. Turns out exposure to other opinions can correct one's prejudices. I'd like to thank Lilani and Katatori for setting me straight. Keep at it y'all.

In real-life, not so long ago I got introduced to some people and projects in the US military that demonstrated that I had completely the wrong idea of who they are and what they do, and I have much greater respect for them now as a result.

Psh.....there's not a thing I've ever been wrong about

On a more serious note, just in general from when I joined, I've become a lot less fiery about stuff. Not as quick to jump to the gun, not as sailor-mouthy

I used to think that I would never enjoy the film Tangled. I thought it would be silly and stupid. Then my boyfriend convinced me to watch it. The songs won't ever leave my head! It's one of my favourite films.

I dunno, I am always pretty much right about everything. :p

Oh wait, I know! I once made the judgement that I would not like anything Garth Ennis put out after reading The Preacher. Turned out to be (happily) wrong about that one. :p

Hm, after coming to the Escapist, I was forced to rethink a lot of misguided opinions that pre-escapist, I just accepted. Sadly, before coming to the Escapist, due to my family being Christian, and me being a Christian as well(still am), growing up in a predominately Christian area, I just grew up for the most part, accepting a lot of the anti-gay homophobia that people engaged in. I didn't really think anything of it. Don't get me wrong, I was never like "All homos must be beaten and tested in labs and cured" or anything, but I wasn't exactly super comfortable with the idea of homosexual people either. I didn't seem to realize at the time that homosexuality does not automatically make you an out-of-control crazy effeminate sex crazed rapist that brutally violates anything of the same gender that spends all of their time sizing up every single same-sex person regardless of their sex appeal with lustful eyes in the entire world before cornering them and raping them. I realized that was incredibly wrong, and I was a bad person for thinking that way even remotely.
