Yeah, I've been loosely following what's happening to Detroit for a little while now - it's just plain tragic really. Seems like it's only a matter of time before it's wiped off the maps completely at this rate.

Let me sum it up for those of not familiar with why we're a particularly nasty breed of American. We were the murder capitol of the US (world?) 16 times. Our mayor, the one who was a gangster mind you, had the wheels stolen off his Escalade while it was guarded and in a walled in compound. If you are white and stop at a red light in Detroit, the cops tell you to run it and get the fuck out immediately (because it isn't safe or you're obviously buying drugs). The abandoned areas looks like Berlin circa 1945. The night before Halloween is Devil's Night where houses are burned down for giggles. In short, some parts of this country think shooting an animal or a stop sign is "tough." Then there are Detroiters.
Red Dawn is being filmed all over South East Michigan. Transformers is always doing something, they just had a train hanging out of an old factory. Detroit 187 is filmed here, actually walked through their set at school a few weeks back. Another movie was filmed behind my buddy's apartment. Gran Torino was filmed here (and basically is about old school Detroiters and their mentality). We're giving big tax credits to anyone who wants to come here and hire some crew and film stuff. There is tons of shit made here right now. Big whoop, doesn't make and meaningful jobs.
Yes, but our city administration is absurdly corrupt. Kwame Kilpatrick, our former mayor, just got indicted by the Feds on RICO charges (basically they throw hundreds of charges at you, it is meant to get an arrest on Mafia dons to give you an idea) for extortion, bribes etc. He is also suspected of having a party at the mayoral mansion where there was drug use and a stripper was murdered. Convenient that the evidence of the murder was taken by State Cops who "lost" it all. They also give business contracts to mobbed up companies.SL33TBL1ND said:

If not for the overwhelming feeling of "You will got shot if you come here." It looks like a fun place to play around and explore.
