Just the other day I was at Nordstrom paying for my shades when I noticed a Queen: Greatest Hits II on sale for 9 bucks at the counter. I asked the lovely store assistant to add that to my total and the girl commented "Oh, I haven't heard of them before, but they look cool". LOL WUT?

I know Queen isn't the most popular band around, but how can have not heard of them? It just blew my mind that someone living in the Western wold not know of a band which has consistently produced number hits in virtually every decade that they performed in Seriously, even Vanilla Ice copied them.

Well, anyway, care to share your moment?

They probably heard them and didnt realize. or maybe its just not their music. I can honestly say, i dont particularly care one way or the other for Queen, and had I only listen to music from the radio station I listen to I'd never have heard them.

Going int hat vain, its rather hypocritical to criticize someone for not hearing music, but I met someone around my age (going on 20) from Seattle who said tehy had never heard of or a song by Alice in Chains.

So I said you herad of grunge rigght, and tehy said yes, they enjoy the band Pearl Jam, and a few songs by Nirvana, so it all made it rather jarring they had never heard of or a song by Alice in Chains.

...

Naturally I set them straight by having them listen to I stay away on my MP3 player.

My friend never having heard of Muse takes the cake, I believe.

Then again, he's tone deaf and doesn't like any music that isn't background music.

Anyone can walk up to me and say, "Hey you know (insert band here)" and 98% of the time my answer will be "Who?"

And thats just because i'm not really a music sort of guy.

THE CLERK IS A POD PERSON! GET OUT OF THE STORE IMMEDIATELY!

No really, it's an official pod person test. If they don't like Queen, they're infiltrators taking over.

Muse did that Twilight song, right? And Queen is the band that created Bohemian Rhapsody. I'd say the cake is taken by OP.

Anyway, I listen to the Beatles quite a bit and I can perfectly understand why someone might not like them, but what I don't understand is someone not hearing about them. I list a few songs and they've heard Yellow Submarine or All You Need is Love, but really... The Beatles?

I meant it takes the cake for me - though not having heard of Queen, yeah, that's almost unbelievable. Also, over here in Enger-land (assuming you come from America or some other place), Muse are... well, let's just say "hugely massive" and not worry about understatement for now.

On a similar note, someone screaming about how some "fake fag" had stolen and copied Justin Bieber's song - Somebody to Love. They then posted a picture of the cover-art for Queen's song of the same title...

It's not that it's Queen, it's the fact that it showed Queen on the front of the cover. They're not exactly 21st Century fashion pioneers.

I don't believe anyone born after the 90s knows who Queen is. If she's over 11, she has no excuse, unless her parents really hated them.

Most people don't know the bands/musicians I like. Its not like I'm into particularly obscure artists either. I mean, who hasn't heard of the Pixies?

The worst ones, though, was were two people who hadn't heard of Simon and Garfunkel, and Buddy Holly respectively. I can appreciate not knowing their music very well or at all, but never having heard of them is ridiculous.

What?...

Queen....Queen....that is the band with the gay bloke as the lead singer correct? (not that there is anything wrong with that). Never listen'd to them and never will probably.

Welcome to the first generation of people born after the death of Freddie Mercury.

And to be fair, Queen don't tend to get a lot of airplay on pop radio stations these days. It's quite possible she's not into rock music and nor were her parents.

Worst one for me: as a Rise Against fan, hearing "Oh, you mean Rise Against the Machine?" NO I DO NOT.

(though I am a Rage fan as well)

I had the same thing happen with Def Leppard. Played Rock of Ages for the guy and he lit up. He also recognized Love Bites and Hysteria.

Some people just don't memorize band names. /shrug

Queen, my all time favourite band.

It's a shame really. A lot of great bands from the 70's and 80's barely get any recognition these days.

The Beatles still do and they stormed the 60's.

Burst out laughing at my neices 21st when the DJ put on Destiny's Child and called it "old school".

Queen isn't the most popular band around? As if! Go to any bar. ANY BAR. Start singing Bohemian Rhapsody. If you don't have a bunch of people by "Thunderbolt and lightning, very very frightning", I would be very surprised. This is the age where ANYONE can quote Queen verbatim, especially that song, and in fact will gather people to sing it EVEN IF THEY DON'T LIKE TO SING. I have proof. I have done it in a massive group several times.

It's stricken me as strange that my younger brother will grow up never having known of the Beetleborgs or, WB cartoons such as Animaniacs, Freakazoid or, Road Rovers. Granted he could always find them on the internet but it just won't be the same for him. It'll be better because the little bastard won't have to sit through fucking commercials...
