So admittedly I was a little skeptical of the Young Justice series, the latest in a group of DC superheroes focusing on teenaged sidekicks, but after five episodes I've been somewhat impressed. It threw a few curve balls at me that I didn't really see coming.

A cool Aqualad (I didn't think a cool Aquanything was possible, the closest they ever got was the TV Justice League Aquaman, and they had to cut off his hand)

Aqualad as a leader

Superman with a notable negative character trait

In Robin's words, I'm rather 'whelmed'. So what has your experience with Young Justice been or has it interested you at all?

I fear I, living in Holland, haven't even heard of it. It sounds inteeresting on one hand, but horrible on the other.

Bruce Timm's team is behind it, it must be good. Haven't seen it though.

I'm sorry, are you suggesting Wesley Crusher's Aqualad wasn't cool?

He was better than most, but he didn't have electric water swords.

I tend to like it just because I'm a fan of DC Comics despite the fact that they've been going downhill a lot lately (I do like Marvel as well, and highly recommend Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes if you're into that sort of thing). The characters are fairly decent and rounded out. I love Martian Manhunter and have had an embarrassing fixation on Ms. Martian since I first saw her in the comics (I knew they'd make a cartoon with her in it eventually...they created her, I'm sure, to capitalize on the popularity of Starfire from the Teen Titans cartoons without having to continue to completely bastardize the character...not that she wasn't fun. She just wasn't Starfire). It's a bit too early to tell and I got a bit of a squicky vibe from the third episode...it was a bit forced and weak. But the fourth was ok and the first two were awesome. It's not goofy like Teen Titans, which is ironic, given that the comics Teen Titans was the serious rebirth of the comics Young Justice, which was completely silly like the cartoon Teen Titans. DC recreated the comic Teen Titans after the popularity of the (silly) cartoon Teen Titans...and the (relatively serious) cartoon Young Justice seems to be their attempt to rekindle the popularity of the (relatively silly) cartoon Teen Titans, but it doesn't seem to take itself /too/ seriously. I liked the original Teen Titans cartoon a lot (despite their liberties with the caracters), but I'm also liking the more serious approach to the young heroes.

I would recommend you pick up the Young Justice comics as well, in any case. But that may be a shameless plug on my part :p

Edit: Not sure why they're going with "Artemis" over...anyone else. Seems like an odd pick considering Artemis is supposed to be an Amazon...though I guess we don't know who she is yet. She just looks like she's going to be the female version of Speedy they introduced in the Teen Titans comic.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm still kind of ticked that this version of Robin is Dick Grayson. Again. It's like every Robin in media outside of the comics and the DCAU has to be Dick Grayson by law or something, even though he's very clearly channeling Tim's looks and Jason's attitude.

Still, outside of that, I think it's shaping up rather well. It's been somewhat hit-or-miss, but it's early days yet; as I recall, it took Justice League a few episodes to really find its voice, I imagine it'll be the same for Young Justice.

It has every possibility of being Tim Drake instead of Dick Grayson. Yeah Kid Flash is Wally West, but both Superboy and Ms. Martian (and arguably Artemis, if they're going for the female version of Speedy from the comics) served in the Titans with Tim. I agree it's probably Dick. He acts more like Dick. But they've done weird personality switches and continuity things before. I wouldn't rule out seeing Nightwing pop in.

I do agree with the hit or miss, though. With less miss than hit. The third episode with Mister Twister was a little weak (why did they all yell at Ms. Martian suddenly like that? That was extremely out of character and contrived), but I haven't had any complaints otherwise. Just finished episode 5 and it was pretty neat.

Maybe they just want to be able to say "shut up, Dick" on a kids show?

I actually predict they're going to do the annoying "WHO IS THIS?!" thing. They always played up in the comics that Robin was told never to reveal his identity, even to his friends in the Titans, and even though he was the leader, he was never allowed to appear in public, like, in a press conference or whatever. So it's entirely possible they will NEVER reveal it.

I have a feeling they will, though, and that it'll be Dick. But there's every possibility to the contrary.

This is the best testimony for the show I can give:

I saw a commercial for it, grew disgusted and never heard or tried to hear anything more about it.

But maybe I'll take a look now

It says on cartoon network.com that this robin is Dick Grayson.

I liked it surprisingly!

I didn't think I would dislike it but Aqualad's appearance took me off guard. I was imagining he'd be more Green Lantern's counterpart. Possibly 'cause of his race. Yes, I know. But I'm black too so it's whatever.

Anyway, you're right. A cool Aqua dude. He's quite possibly the most useful one ever. Can't make fun of this one about uselessness. I dare someone to try.

Also like the way they had superboy. Dare I say he's a bit cooler than Superman.

I loved the Teen Titans show. I can't wait to see what happens with this one. They seem to be going for a more "old school" line-up - Kid Flash, Aqua Lad, Super Boy - who, btw, is waaaaaaay too emo, but whatever. This probably means Starfire isn't going to show up, but hey, it's still "hella bad-ass" *bad-dum ba!*
