As the title says, apparently the porn site YouPorn is looking into sponsoring professional eSports teams for at least League of Legends, DotA 2, and Hearthstone. What are your thoughts on porn sites trying to get involved in eSports, and how do you think the likes of Blizzard and Riot would react given their barring of such sponsors in the LCS and WCS tournaments?

Depends on the kind of presence their *ahem* service would have.

Under 18s probably watch esports after all.

LOL well umm, It can't be any worse then Mountain Dew if you saw that indie game jam that never happened article.

I'd say it's alright since I'm sure alcohol and cigarette companies probably have some sponsors in esports, and that "pro gamers" have enough human standards to not be " Here is team youporn sticking out their bad dragon tongues at us."

I don't have a problem with it at all, it's just another entertainment site.
The rest of society however still pretends sex is the devils work so things would no doubt go real damn badly for any player who would sign up with anyone running a porn business.

It's the exact same thing as being sponsored by alcohol or tobacco companies. They've been advertising their restricted products to minors for eons.

Brazzers sponsored LI Joe once (fighting game player), if I remember correctly. Everything started out as a joke but apparently they got in contact and it became an actual thing.

I mean, no problem with me, honestly.

Honestly, I'd rather be sponsored by a porn site than a tobacco company. Porn doesn't cause lung cancer and horrible breath.
Unless I had to wear a t-shirt with a pink YouPorn-logo on it, that is. That.. might actually be a serious dealbreaker.

I really dont see an issue. A sponser is a sponser. If we suddenly start drawing morale lines because a sponser happens to promote porn we become no better then the close minded people that have denounced video games for decades.

They shouldn't be allowed to advertise or promote these sites and having eCelebs endorsing them is immoral and dangerous. It's particularly important when minors could be among those watching or supporting these teams. I can't see it happening as most companies would prefer to avoid any association with sleaze.

Depends on how they do the advertising, really. If, for example, I was sponsored by Brazzers like the above poster mentioned, I would be happy to wear a t-shirt with this on it:

Goddammit you made me spit out my coffee.

On another, completely unrelated note: there was a guy named Bukkake on the USF4-stream on EVO earlier today, probably the perfect guy to be sponsored by YouPorn.
And on another, related note, the line "and Yun goes off right in Bukkake's face" was a line that was said during his matches, seemingly without the commentators noticing.

I don't see it as being that big a thing, given that they currently sell sexual enhancement products and such on TV, radio, billboards, and everything else, not to mention the general proliferation of sex appeal in marketing. As long as they aren't actually showing sexual penetration and/or going beyond what other companies do in selling their products,
I doubt it matters much.

Of course there is the greater question of how advertising has developed in a general sense, but the bottom line is we already opened the door, free speech and civil liberties regulations prevent things from changing any time in the near future, so we might as well stop playing coy about what we've unleashed.

I'll also say that a number of porn stars/starlets have commented on being heavily involved in gaming a few times, I believe Asia Carrera ran her how Counterstrike servers for a while, and did it before it was "hip" and you had all the "gamer girl" softcore all over the internet (not to mention that she never used it for her appearances to my knowledge). I suppose in theory the adult industry might be able to put some promotional teams together and see how well they do, and in actual gameplay it might actually prove some points along the way.

For all intents and purposes a porn sponsored team as I understand the idea is probably going to be no worse than "The Frag Dolls" which is Ubisoft's sponsored teams who are selected for their looks as well as their gaming ability, so they can be used for promotional purposes. Either way your pretty much using sex to sell gaming, and of course whatever products the sponsors also sell.

While this could wind up providing some points, and could be interesting, one thing I've heard commented on for a long time though is that a lot of the "all girl" teams don't actually do all that well for one reason or another. The infamous "Team Siren" is actually not all that highly ranked, and the various "Frag Dolls" teams have had very mixed results over the years.

If it's just a matter of porn companies sponsoring as opposed to producing their own teams, I don't think someone having "Dildobarn.com" under a picture of a massively well endowed model dressed as a farm girl in daisy dukes and a halter top is going to cause many problems, given that you can find similar advertisements all over the place, and frankly those under 18 who really want to find porn aren't going to have much trouble. Not to mention that porn sales sites want to sell products, not just give their stuff away for free, while there are plenty of "free samples" and amateur sites out there, chances are a company promoting this way is going to lead you to a site full of plastic
phallic devices or whatever, not hot action with them being used. Sort of like the infamous "Bad Dragon" site, where it became sort of famous not because of porn clips but because a lot of people of both genders were going "OMG" (in both good and bad directions) at the thought of some of them being used.

Of course there is common sense here, obviously some kind of tournament involving a kiddy game (like a "Hello Kitty" or "Wizard 101" PVP tourney or whatever... if you can even envision such a thing) it shouldn't happen. Of course then again most kiddie games (Pixie Hollow, Pirates Of The Carribean, Lego Universe Online etc...) are dead and gone so it's not likely they will ever enter into E-sports. Although I must admit if it still existed how wrong it would be to have Ron Jeremy playing a game like "Pixie Hollow" professionally would be amusing... Tinker Bell and friends would never be the same again, even if he was a complete gentleman the entire time. :)

I'm sure they'll at least allow women on their team.

This just won't happen though. There's way too many minors into eSports for this to go through.

*snickers* It's really doesn't sound right without proper context backing it up, at least...

OT: As long as no one makes a big deal about it, then I don't see why not.. I mean, it's not like YouPorn going to tell the team they're supporting to watch those videos involving "couples" having "competitive esports training" in the "bedroom" or anything like that...

Absofuckinglutely not! That site is a trash heap of malware and viruses. I mean...from what I've heard. >.>

As far as it being a porn site, I don't care. I'm tired of our society's Puritan overtones while being not so secretly sex obsessed. Pick a direction and go with it.

Surely, because of the controversy piracy has in the game industry, it wouldn't fly for that reason alone? As far as I'm aware, YouPorn is a tube site full of stolen/pirated porn films and scenes taken from official sources and distributed for free. It'd be like receiving a sponsor from the Pirate Bay.

I have no problem with getting sponsors from porn sites. I think porn is as legit as anything else, but a site full of piracy and stolen content? I don't see it happening.

I don't have a problem with the porn or sex industry, there just honest entertainment providers in my opinion, to claim they harm societies integrity and morality is stupid, society is already immoral and lacks integrity hiding the existence of porn is just denying the immorality of our society.

However them sponsoring eSports is an insult in my opinion, it shows just how low they think eSports is. would YouPorn attempt to sponsor a football or baseball team? No they wouldn't dare, there too low on society's 'entertainment class system' to be accepted or even taken seriously with that attempt. However them attempting to sponsor eSports shows that they think eSports are low enough on societies entertainment class that it can be associated with porn.

I'm sorry but anyone past the age of 10 already knows of sex and porn. And boys and girls around that age already start watching it anyways. This isn't the "old days" anymore. Hell back in my middle school and high school, everyone was groping and making out all the time in the hallways. I started getting "interested" in girls when I was around 10-11. Honestly, in this day and age there is no such thing as a minor when it comes to this stuff.

I'd be concerned what the non-gaming audience and the media would make of it, and the chance for young kids watching, but beyond that it seems alright as long as it doesn't have any effect on the actual event.
