This is also one of my favourite albums of the year! Nice to see there are more people out there who love it.Granta said:My album of the year must be Portal of I by Ne Obliviscaris. A few listens should explain why better than I ever could.
Agree with this, definitely the best album of the year. Although I don't think you know as much about Swans' career as you think - they were noise rock before they were post-punk, and they've been experimental avant-garde progressive rock since long before their reunion. And of course most importantly, they were ALWAYS great. But maybe that's just me. The Seer is still definitely their best album.Neuromancer said:Swans - The Seer [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seer_%28Swans_album%29]
The Swans started as a typical post-punk band. Their music was pretty darn good, but nothing especially great.
After a 16-year-long hiatus, they returned in 2010 with My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Father_Will_Guide_Me_up_a_Rope_to_the_Sky], taking a turn for experimental-avant garde-progressive rock. Back then, I was pleasantly surprised, and couldn't wait to listen to what they came up with next.
They delivered. The Seer is by far their best (and as many people might say, "weirdest") album. It's as if they took the basic formula of MFWGMuRttS and perfected it. I haven't found myself being completely immersed by a longer-than-10-minutes song in years. The whole album is a mix of beautiful sounds. However, it is truly hard to get for someone not used to this kind of music.
Faunts released something new without my knowledge?! *hastily googles*OhJohnNo said:Dammit, I haven't got all the 2012 albums I want yet! >:[
Well so far, it's definitely Faunts' "Left Here Alone". 4 songs, each of them astonishingly perfect. Cemented their reputation as my favourite band around right now.
Captcha: "empire state of mind".
Love Grimes. Visions is in my top 5 for sure.Bear In Heaven said:Grimes - Visions
Claire Boucher has quite some talent, I'm quite interested into what she'll do next.
I loved these ones too. Both are top 5. Godspeed are my favourite musical artist.JochemHippie said:10. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
15. Andy Stott - Luxury Problems
I have listened to it. Pretty good.Granta said:My album of the year must be Portal of I by Ne Obliviscaris. A few listens should explain why better than I ever could.

And if anyone can tell me how to post video, that would be very much appreciated.
Would make the shortlist. But even those were a bit disappointing. Koloss pales in comparison to I or even Obzen and L'enfant Sauvage is nowhere near as good as From Mars To Sirius or The Way Of All Flesh. There is nothing as relentless and creepy as Bleed, or as intense as Heaviest Matter of the Universe, or as catchy as Backbone. Born in Winter just about counts, because its goddamn cool, but the rest of L'enfant just isn't as interesting as Gojira's usual releases.Papadam said:Meshuggah - Koloss
