Incomplete Series

Code Geass R1 (Season 1 part 1)
Eureka Seven (Vol. 2-5)
Gundam Wing (Vol. 1-5)
Gundam Seed (Vol. 7-10)
Gundam Seed Destiny (Vol.1)
Gundam 00 Season 1 (Part 1)
Gundam Unicorn (ep. 1-6)

Trying to complete these series but Bandai Entertainment going defunct hasn't exactly made it easy for some of them. Also hoping to get the Mobile Suit Gundam (original)TV series and Black Lagoon S1 and S2 eventually.

So as you can see I'm a pretty big Mecha fan especially when it comes to the Gundam franchise.
Well, so far, the only way those series would get redistributed is probably through FUNImation, since they do have plans to release Code Gease R1 and R2 complete on Blu-Ray and (maybe) DVD... Maybe they can also re-release other Bandai Entertainment series... like IGPX, since I love that series... (and it would be cool to see that get released on Blu-Ray...)
True, but when it comes to Gundam related media it seems that Sunrise has the mentality that it has to be distributed/released by them or it doesn't get distributed at all. The only reason why Gundam Unicorn continued to be released in the US after Bandai Entertainment went defunct is because its distributed by Bandai Visual which uses more traditional Japanese pricing models ($60 per episode).
Huh... So, they'd rather give away their "smaller" properties like Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop to FUNimation for their later Blu-Ray releases, but not the one franchise that's basically still makes them a primary distribution company (and not just mostly secondary)? (It's reminding me of Aniplex a little bit... only with Gundam...)
Well at the moment Sunrise isn't really interested in distributing outside Japan anymore hence why BE is defunct and Sunrise is handing out licensing rights for other anime series to other companies. Gundam Unicorn is kinda of an exception. I think Sunrise released Unicorn via Bandai Visual because they wanted to see if a foreign market would accept prices closer to what people in Japan pay (testing the waters so to speak).

Bandai Entertainment went defunct because the old pricing model for anime in the US ($20-$30 for 4-5 episodes) wasn't working anymore (as far as the suits at Sunrise were concerned). However, this does not necessarily mean Sunrise is done with releasing anime outside Japan forever. I think what they are doing now is taking a break from foreign distribution to overhaul their business model for foreign distribution and that new model is Bandai Visual.

If Bandai Visual doesn't yield the results they want I can see them offering the distribution rights for the Gundam franchise to other companies like Funimation (assuming Sunrise doesn't charge out the ass for it).

Now a lot of what I say is conjecture so take it with a grain of salt.
I see what you mean, though... Even still, if what they're doing with Bandai Visual doesn't work out, they technically have two options at that point:

Like you said, they can give distribution rights to FUNimation and a few others I'm not too familiar with... (I think the closest company I can think of, besides maybe Manga Entertainment, is Sentai Filmworks, but only because I bought the series Another from them not that long ago...)Or, and I really hope it doesn't go in this direction, they end up like what happened with ADV Films... (which would lead to certain Gundam series not even seeing the light of day anytime soon, unless otherwise...)

Regardless, I don't know as much about Sunrise or Bandai Entertainment as I do with FUNimation, for example, so we're both taking our words with a grain of salt, anyway... *shrugs* (Still miss ADV Films, though...)

Geeze, I just looked it up and anime in Japan is even more expensive than I realized. We're talking anywhere from $20 to $50... for two or three episodes. I'm pretty sure by the time I complete my Stargate SG-1 collection, including the movies, I'll have enough left over for a couple of seasons of Atlantis before I've spent as much as some poor schmuck in Japan would have for one season of some some random 23 episode show.

If you're not familiar with SG-1, it lasted for 10 seasons and had two direct to DVD movies to wrap up the loose ends of the ongoing plotlines. Yeah.
Actually it was worse in the old days before DVD. Depending on where you lived before Amazon and all that jazz, you'd spend $50+ to get a VHS that had bad dubbing (with a few exceptions) to get ONE, maybe two, episodes of a 25 minute anime and that was only at a speciality shop that had Anime for other reasons (usually comic book or gaming shops.) At least when the Stargate SG-1 tapes that originally came out were only around 20+ when they first came out and the DVDS were competitively priced.

I paid nearly $100 each for my two Sailor Moon seasons and those were 80% filler episodes.

I did Captcha, I did. That's why I watched Highschool of the Dead, Jellyfish Princess and other godd animes on Netflix instant queue.

Well yeah, but that was the VHS days, when there were a number of good reasons for it[footnote]There wasn't much of a market for pre-recorded TV shows before DVD, largely because VHS tapes took up so much shelf space. With the right kind of packaging, an entire season of a show on DVD takes up as much shelf space as a single disc movie. Even with the bulky kind of packaging, we're talking the same amount of space as one or two VHS tapes. I'm pretty sure the complete DBZ sets I remember seeing on VHS back in the day would have taken up two entire shelves on my book shelf, and that was with big chunks of the show cut out for content. The DVD sets might take half a shelf uncut. So the tapes were sold individually at high prices, because people weren't especially likely to want the whole set considering how much space it would take up, and because in general they weren't expected to sell all that many copies. I can't for the life of me think of a show that got a full release on VHS that wasn't either anime, a documentary, or a sci fi, or fantasy show with a major cult following (Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc.). Most other shows just got best of sets, if they got that much.[/footnote]. Japan /still/ pays that much, for DVDs, which are still sold as individual 2-3 episode releases like they stopped doing in the US in the early 2000's.

Despite my love of anime I only have 6 dvds
Black Lagoon Roberta's Blood Trail
Hellsing Ultimate episodes 5-8
Evangelion 1.11
Evangelion 2.22
Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heavan's Door

I want to get the rest of Black Lagoon and I know a place that's selling Second Barrage for cheap. I'll grab the rest of Hellsing Ultimate in the fall as well as Eva 3.33. I'm going to get Summer Wars and Kill la Kill soon.

Behold my spectacular list of anime:

Summer Wars (DVD)
The girl who leapt through time (DVD)
Akira (Blu-ray)

That's about it, really. I don't very often buy this stuff, because there's not a shop within miles that sells this stuff. (At least not that I know of).
