It has struck me that i make horrible first impressions in real life and online, so i would like to ask my fellow escapists on whether or not you act the same online and if it makes a difference? (i hope people dont always act like they do in the comments of stuff on youtube etc.)

I pretty much act the same in real life as I do online.
But I will always back out of arguments on the internet[footnote]Unless it involves Viva Pinata or some guy just generally being a twat to me, then I'll argue.[/footnote]. They never get you anything but trouble.

Kinda. In real life I am probably beyond even the definition of the word shy (except with people I have known for a while) and online it is the same I am still extremely shy except with people I have known for a while but online I am quicker to be more superior like pointing out said people stupidity and stupid things they have done AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT by the way, all I am doing is pointing out that I am on a higher plane of intelligence then they can NEVER even hope to be on be :p.

I'm pretty quiet in real life, I really only express myself and my opinions among close friends. But I pretty much do exactly that when I'm online unless I have a mic and I'm talking to people like on Xbox Live, then I'm quiet again.

Online I get a chance to review what I've just thought, in the real world I kill many a conversation... But I don't act any differently, at least intentionally.

I don't kill any conversations offline but it seems to happen all the time on the internet. Other than that, I'm the same online as I am offline, I don't see a point why I should act differently.

I'm an ass online and offline...why should I deny the internet of the awesome me?

(Cookies for the nerd who knows to what I am referring to!)

I'm pretty much the same guy on and offline, 'though I've put in a lot of effort to keeping the nerd in me hidden around non-nerds.

I used to have more of an online 'persona' when I was younger. As time has gone on I am more just my usual self online and in real life.

I act like I have no emotion in real life.

Online I act like I actually have a sense of humour.

Everything else remains the same.

I act the same. Only difference is that in the outside world it's easy to ignore me while still continuing the argument. On the internet you can't continue an argument with a person if you ignore what he says.

How to beat me in an argument in real life:
- Don't stop speaking.
- Speak very loud.
- If I ever do get the word, don't listen.
That results in me leaving the argument and adding you to my mental list of "People who shall burn"

I have two different personalities, one for real life and the other for gaming... oh and a third for "faking" interviews for jobs. In real life I'm a dick and online I'm an ass.

Ha ha, yes definately this...

I have about three nerd friends and even they don't use this forum. If my musician friends realised how much of a nerd I really was, I wouldn't be considered cool enough to be a front man anymore that's for sure...

It even feels like my online personality is closer to my real personality than my offline one is. It's not that I'm afraid to be myself, I just know most people don't care about the same stuff I do so I know what not to talk about...

This goes double for girls... Triple for when dealing with the slightly out of your league good looking ones...
