I've been wandering what Rule 34 is for awhile, but my friends tell me I'd have nightmares if I looked it up. So, can someone tell me what the hell Rule 34 is?
Rule 34 of the Internet: If it exists, there is porn of it. No exceptions.

Let's see what this is all about.

*30 minutes later*

Read it all in one sitting. Holy crap that was the funniest damn thing I've read in a long, long time. Now I'm going to go watch that narration video of this
And yeah, it's just a huge blast. I've watched the full 43 videos in that playlist probably four or five times.

Now, that all depends on the Rule 34 that's being used, the characters involved and how well it's written...

Well written? No problems. Rule 34 used for comedic effect or a way to give depth to characters? No worries there. The Rule 34 used varying between light, heavy, BDSM and group? Nope, nothing bad happening here.

But then if the story is poorly written, characters used are underaged/furries/monsters and the Rule 34 is bordering on Gorn/Torture Porn, then my general reaction can be summed up in a single image...

I have my limits, and sadly many stories go beyond them. Most of those are terrible so it's not really a bad thing, but when I accidentally stumble across something that does invoke the above image... yeah.

Related to that - Rule 34 My Little Pony. No. NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Ain't gonna touch that even if it follows the criteria for me to not give a shit about it.
Have you ever watched the pony thread simulator videos on Youtube?

I can never eat marshmallows again.
I've been watching those all week.

They're hilarious and I love each one of them! (No matter how violated i feel by the end of them)

OT: I use to be one of those guys who got really uppity about Rule 34. Now I don't give a fuck because a lot of it is so ridiculous and outrageous that I'm more impressed than disgusted. A good example are some of the posts in those pony thread simulators. Simply hysterical!

No admittedly there are some things I'd rather not have R34 applied, like beloved childhood characters or more innocent characters as well as strange fetishes. Yes, R34 itself could be considered a strange fetish, but adding vore, torture, or whatever the fuck gorn is?

I know, but it's not so much the ponies so much as the graphic, and disturbing context they use marshmallow in.

Yeah, that did make me weary of marshmallows for awhile...and plot. Don't forget the plot.

Never been never really wanted to. I had a couple of friends (they were lesbians) that were really into Xena fanfics that were basically rule 34. This was a long long time ago though, way before I'd actually had a computer of my own.

Something about stories written by amateurs that puts me off, regardless of their context. I tend to feel that way about the writing in most video games though; sloppy, unimaginative, like fanfics attempting to pass for professional writing.

You've all encountered them before: erotic fanfiction based on movies and TV shows. While they're probably less traumatizing than actual images, it's amazing how there are people out there with the most outrageous tastes.

So what do you do when you come across one of them in a fanfiction site? Do you ignore them the moment it catches your eye, or just take a look at the reviews? Does your curiosity get the better of you and make you read several pages before leaving behind a scathing review about how bad it is? Or do you read them to see how ridiculous they are?
By itself, Rule 34 can be horrible. I dont even want to know what Rule 34 fanfiction would be like... though I know it would most likely involve crack pairings that would cause Chuck Norris to vomit uncontrollably. Thank you TVTropes, now I dont have to read such fanfiction to know they're bad.

I don't really hate the various forms of fetishes fans put in their fanfictions, I mean whatever floats your boat buddy.
I just always tend to rage when they portray the characters personality wrong, which is probably mighty smug of me to demand in fanfiction but it really really bothers me when a characters acts off and I just can't seem to enjoy it if one does.

Rule 34 does not bother me. They exist because some people are interested in it. I'm more scizzed out by Rule 63 + Rule 34 stories, especially some in the Girl who Lived subgenre.

Thread made me think of this.

I don't read the stuff myself but I did have a friend who wrote Boosh slash. So its not like I'm judgemental over it.

No option for "Hey, new spank material!"? Disappointing.

In all seriousness, I usually ignore them, since they're not what I enjoy. But note that I said "usually." Sometimes fan-erotica is genuinely well-written, and if I see a summary that indicates a good story, and I'm in the right mood (read: pissed out of my skull and feeling deviant), I'll give it a read.

And yes, occasionally a wank. Perfect I ain't.

I've never actually been able to read a rule 34 fanfic... mostly due to bad spellchecking and grammar so bad that it actually ruins all semblance of sentence structure. Unlike most denizens of the internet, it actually takes me a bunch of extra time to decode stuff like
I cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg. The phaonmneal pweor of the human mnid. Aoccdrnig to rscheearch taem at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Such a cdonition is arppoiately cllaed Typoglycemia. Amzanig huh? Yaeh and yuo awlyas thought slpeling was ipmorantt.
Seriously, that took me like 5 minutes to get through, so I call bullshit on the subject matter.

I have generally avoided fan-fiction, especially any sexual fan-fiction.

Also, it is very easy to stop reading, so I don't see any reason to oppose it. Whatever floats your (possibly creepy) boat.

I was actually thinking of making a thread the other week where the entire OP was a huge wall of text typed out like that, as a way to see how many people could just read it perfectly fine. (Side-Note: The only word that made me stumble is "arppoiately" which I think you may have missed a few letters in, because I thought it was "apparently" at first, and then thought it looks closer to "appropriately", but it doesn't have the right combination of letters for either really.)

Im guessing "rule 34" is another cool, hip internet meme for people to talk about? Another meme like the trillion other memes we now have infesting the internet (well 4chan mostly), and now unfortunately, forums? How awesome. How many other memes do I need to know before I can be hip?

Sorry, I just banged my head on my keyboard there.

If you did some research, you'll find out that Rule 34 is not exactly a meme. A meme is a concept that is spread across the internet, while Rule 34 is just a simple internet adage that defines the existence of erotic media: if something exists, there WILL be porn of it. It just describes what already exists and what will exist.
In the future, do know more about the subject being discussed before posting.

I don't get why furries have to add such weird fetishs like vore, urine, poo, diapers, inflation(I know EternalNothingness is into that shit),weight gain etc..
Don't forget 'transformation'. An interactive story which had that stuff was the reason why I even posted this thread.
