Carmine, as he'd live forever and be my best buddy... Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
On a serious note:

Who hasn't ever wanted a giant lumbering drill weilding emotionless bio engineered diving suit clad killbeast... that is angry enough to Murder you with his drill instantly, but still sweet and patient enough to be the idol of little girls who continually call him "Mr. Bubbles". What a guy.

Is Legion from Mass Effect 2 available? strange maybe but Legion is still epic.

Failing that I have no idea :/ I can't remember half the characters from games I play.

My character Axle from Oblivion would be awesome. Who would mess with someone with Deadric armor, a demonic arm, and a lightsaber?

If custom characters aren't allowed than I'll go with any of the guys from Killing Floor, they seem like they would be fun to hang out with.

Dogmeat. If he dies, I reload no matter how long ago the last time I saved was.
Oh I've been there. Found myself outside Old Olney.
Shit Deathclaws. *dog dies* *reload*
Dogmeat stay here. *dies* *reload*
Dogmeat run away. *dies* *reload*
After finally getting out of that I went to Megaton... Dogmeat stay here and be a good boy.

Anyway...

Yoshi :)

I guess if I was picking a human, it would probably be Locke Cole.

Those who've said Travis Touchdown may have forgotten what happened to Travis's previous best friend...

OT: Genis Sage, from Tales of Symphonia. I don't have any prejudice against half-elves, and Genis just seems like a neat kid.
Or I might pick Guillo, from Baten Kaitos Origins. It's a magical spellslinging construct with two simultaneous voices. Sweeeet.

Alyx Vance seems like a nice, reasonable, biracial, intelligent, Christian, brave, capable, dignified, casual, drug-free, and physically attractive woman. It'd be nice to have her as a "friend", if I may say so. Likewise with Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams (of Mass Effect).

As an actual, not-wanting-to-stick-it-in friend, I think Dante of Devil May Cry seems like a fun kind of guy; and although many people hate him with a passion, Jack Marston seems like a decent enough person.

EDIT: Also, I would've added Zevran of Dragon Age fame, but he is both lecherous and homosexual-- I am neither.

My tiger from the first ever playthrough of Black & White I did. While I was the evillest bastard of a god in the land (don't judge, it was easier to convert villages that way) he was a paragon of goodliness and kindness. Always making the peasants wood and food, then breakdancing for them.

And when he beat the everloving shit out of Nemesis' lion I was so proud. Wish I had a picture of him, but that was many computers and HDD formats ago.

Either Jack from Mass Effect 2 or that sweet lil dwarf Sigrun from Dragon Age: Awakening.
