Actually, they changed that. Shiny Pokemon haven't been any stronger than normal Pokemon since Gen 2.

I sometimes whack my Palkia in there instead of Dragonite (amongst my friends we sometimes use a "1 legendary rule"). Going to be trying out my event Arceus in there instead at some point though (ghost type to remove a big ice weakness I tend to have). I'm also leveling a shiny Pikachu (also event) at the moment to try out the light ball thing and if that fails then I'll just have him as a Raichu and replace my current one.

I have around 14 level 100s (yes I'm rather sad, I don't go as far as EV training though, just movesets and such) which I switch in and out every now and then. I'm actually trying to fit them in to a second squad when I've tweaked my first one a bit.

btw, I do not believe that Pichu evolves if it is from the event that I think you are referring to. Gamestop, right?
