Got to be seeing one of the first time preview games they give

... the guys helping them were insane i have never heard anyone shout "and the orc splits the space marine in twain blood guts and gore everywhere" so loudly with only about 4 people acknowledging it

oddly enough i've not heard that any other time

I once had a Skink Chief with Cloak of Feathers, Mark of Sotek and I think a Piranha Blade account for 2 Dark Elf Sorceresses, 2 Repeater Bolt Throwers and a unit of 10 Crossbowmen.

From that day forth he was known as Doomskink, favoured of Sotek.

I managed to kill half an army of orcs with a single Gondor solider... I really need to get around to picking a suitable name for him.

Also my other best moment is when i read the Deff Squadron (spelling?) comic for the first time... It. Was. Legendary.

Once again proving that the comics and books are way better than actually playing the game

A Hermit's Cave
Absolute insanity, but I had to do it:

Charged my opponent's carnifex with Eldrad Ulthran. Shooting had taken one wound... two rounds of combat later: Eldrad Ulthran emerges, patting down his robes! Fucking unforgettable, bloody hilarious, too.

I'm mostly just a painter, but one of my favourite moments was my plucky Chaos Predator taking down a Warhound on the first turn of my first Apocalypse game. Imperial scum got schooled that day XD

long long ago when I was young and still played it was my chaos versus my mates Empire- who quite frankly had a disturbing love for artillery with 3 cannons and 2 Helblasters, with 2 engineers attached to the helblasters.

Well a few turns in and my unit of knights was making short work of his infantry; and so they soon found themselves coming under fire by one of the helblasters, my mate rolled- got a misfire, used the engineers rule to reroll-only to get another misfire and have the weapon blow up, killing the crew and the engineer.
We decided the guy had stuck his head down one of the barrels to have a look only for it to go off.

A non-warhammer related (MTG to be precise) moment of awesome was playing my mates Kuldotha Red deck, he got me down to 2 life by turn 3, only for me to somehow pull it around with an Overwhelming stampede and a 6 times kicked Wolfbriar Elemental.

Five armies converged in the centre of the map, and me starting with just 10 genestealers.
Guess who won with only 8 casualties?
You do not do close combat with a genestealer.

One of the first things I remember were games nights at the GW Adelaide store back in the days of second ed. We decided first turn by who could shout their battlecry the loudest.
Nice, rolling dice is for chumps.

Tha Angels V Templars sounded like it would have been a blast to see in action.

Warhammer 40k
Imperial guard (me) Vs Chaos space marines (my friend)

My squad of guardsmen shoots at some khorne berserkers in cover
No special weapons at all.
They kill EVERY. SINGLE. ONE!

All in all, almost everything went right for me, and my opponent made several grave tactical errors. His big Templar squad should have been parked on the objective, he shouldn't have left his commanders out in the open and I still don't know why he had his Sword Brethren buttoned up in the LR sitting on the back line plinking at stuff when it should have been roaring forward to deliver the pain. Also note this was a gentleman who was older me, so it wasn't some kid who didn't know better.
A battle is 50% luck and 50% capitalising on your enemies mistakes.

Khorne does not approve of cover.

IN 4th edition when you could kill a tank with a glance, and my sniperfex was a viable build. I took out my buddy's monolith as son as it came in on the table, it was awesome.

At one point in 4th edition i played a Grey Knights player who deep struck everything. He deep stuck a group of Grey Knight termies in font of my full brood of Hormogaunts. I got 96 attacks on the charge.

Recently in 5th my guard when up against another guard player, I had two Russes in a squad, he only had one. For all Six turns they just sat there as shot at each other. Did no damage, not even a stunned or shaken.

IN 6th fantasy a guy at my FLGS who no one liked (he was one of those guys who no one likes) challenged me to a 3000 point game so he could win a game. He used lizardmen i am an Empire player. In 3000 points i had six cannons, two hell blasters 50 handgunners and a huge units of swordsmen, and two Wizard Lords with Lore of shadow. He brought a Slann in a huge temple guard unit two Stegadons one Ancient One, Engine of the gods. I got first turn, and used the magic lore of blackpowder on the EoG i had four direct hits and killed it instantly, the Ancient One had two cannon balls bounce into it. He had a couple teradons that flew up and killed one of my handgunners, i simply pivoted my hellblasters and made them mist. Turn three saw Hocland longrifles and battle wizards take a toll on his salamanders and temple guard. Buy the turn four all he could do was move up his temple guard and slann, which he did. On my turn in the 5th i Cast Pit of shades twice. One Wizard killed a good chunk of Temple guard. My other Wizard i used a power stone, wizards staff which allowed me to roll 8 dice and i had no miscast, 8 DICE AND NO MISCAST!

Oh god this thread brings back memories. The one friend I played WH40k with moved away and the Games Workshop in my town closed. WHY MUST YOU TORTURE ME WITH NOSTALGIA!?!?!?!?

Anywho....I once had two units of space marine scouts all decked out with snipers. I was facing Necrons and my buddy had the Nightbringer. First turn...or maybe it was second...I had both units open up on his Nightbringer and what followed was the luckiest dice rolling of my life. His Nightbringer dropped before it had a chance to do anything and I was able to pull off a win.

I'm sure I have better stories but sharing them would make me long for 40k even more...

Playing a 4v4 game set on Penal Colony against my friend in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade with the difficulty turned on hard. I was Chaos and my friend was Imperial Guard.

Wow that battle went for a veeeeery long time. Although I ultimately lost after more than an hour of gameplay, by which only my friend, one of his allies and I were left. I fought to the very last man, and managed to destroy about three quarters of their combined attack force before my final unit creation building was destroyed. It was clearly the most epic DoW:DC battle I've ever played in, it had everything; pincer attacks, alliances, betrayal, 1v1 uber unit fights, massive tank vs tank battles, raids and plenty of rebuilding our bases.

By the end of the game our HQ buildings were all over the place and out starting bases were no more.

When I used to play, I once versed my friend's Eldar with my Dark Eldar. I had an Archon armed with an agonizer and a shadowfield, which meant he had a 50-50 chance of wounding on hit, with no saves and that he had a 2+ invulnerable save (if it fails once it breaks). Basically my dice refused to roll a 1, so that my Archon basically defeated half of my enemy's army, including a wraithlord. The entire time he was attacking the Archon with a fire prism fruitlessly.

Hmm, four moments vie for "best" moment for me. All from 3rd or 4th ed rules

The first was when I introduced one of my friends to the game. He had never played before, so I gave him the choice of playing either my Space Marine army or my Necron army. He chose the Space Marines, and after deployment I let him go first.

Movement stage was fairly standard, with explanations of difficult terrain and vehicle movement being made. Then came the shooting stage. My friend proceeds to prove he has the luck of the Emperor as his Landraider cuts down a Destroyer squad, his Devestators rip my Pariahs to pieces, and his Dreadnought blows up my Monolith. With a 6" explosion radius. Which claimed a squad of Warriors and a squad of Immortals. So I start my turn with 1 squad of Immortals, one squad of Warriors, one squad of Wraiths, my Lord and a single Pariah.

Wasn't impressed.

Second moment was playing my Necrons against a friends Alaitoc Rangers army, with an escalation deployment. For those who have never versed a Craftworld army, what with them not being generally legal anymore, the Rangers had a thing called the disruption table, which inflicted a variety of nasty results depending on a D6 roll. Look it up, it's quite interesting. Long story short, I started turn 1 with 3 Warriors on the field. And nothing else. Which, under the We'll Be Back rule, meant I had lost the game. Before turn 1 even began.

Wasn't impressed.

Third moment was playing a game with my Necrons at the local GW against a random Tyranid player. Turn 3 started with one of his Carnifex's wiping out my Wraith squad. Unfortunately for him, that left his Carnifex out in the open. My turn 3 melee round, I charged his Carnifex with my Nightbringer. Which won. His next melee he charged my Nightbringer with a half strength Genestealer squad. which failed to inflict a single wound and then died to my return attacks. My next melee I swept into his Hive Tyrant. And killed it. His next melee he jumped the Nightbringer with a Lictor. Which inflicted 1 wound before it died. My Next melee I swept into his Warrior squad, killing 2 and injuring the 3rd. His next melee, the rest of his warrior squad died.

He wasn't impressed.

Fourth moment was against a different Eldar playing friend. He had a squad of striking scorpions that made 39 armour saves in a single round of firing, and then proceeded to butcher my forces for the rest of the game.

Wasn't impressed.

Let's see, I've got a great one from a friend when we played a game against a Necron player and my own.

My friend's:
Chaos Space Marines, Orks and Daemons vs Necrons. The Necrons have 3 Monoliths. With 2 shots from the Obliterator's Lascannons, 2 Monoliths are sunk. Completely destroyed one, imobilised the other.

Mine (Daemons and Orks vs Chaos and Space Marines):
First Turn; I deepstrike a squad of 10 bloodletters, 5 horrors with the Changeling and Skulltaker.
First Space Marine Turn; Not a single Daemon is killed.
Second Daemon Turn; Bloodletters assault a squad of Tactical marines and wipe them out before they can respond, Skulltaker wounds the SM HQ. A Tzeentch herald is dropped in and wipes out some Chaos Marines with Breath of Chaos.

My very first game (2nd Ed) I played Orks vs Space Marines. I thought since I had numbers I would win, with a squad of 20 Gretchin I concentrated my fire at his commander. Not one hit. The rest of the game the commander systematically killed the entire squad in close combat. Leadership tests were the only thing I could roll good for.

I have never played a greenskin army since.
