Basically the whole of WoW, they turned a serious, dark fantasy into a f*cking Indana Jones Parody.

I'm sorry, but how was Warcraft ever a 'serious dark fantasy'. Since it's inception it's always been rife with pop-culture references, obscure quotes, cliche plots, and zany humour. I remember Warcraft 1 was the first game I know of where if you clicked the peons enough they'd start giggling. Very grim! Only got more ridiculous as the series continued. Warcraft 2 took the unit quotes to new heights of silliness, and Warcraft 3 went so far as to have secret sheep levels and an epilogue where the main villain played a guitar solo!

As for my own Betrayals, Spoony pretty much covers the one that's been bugging me the most lately.

If the game isn't in the doesn't use the same gameplay or even take place in the same setting it's NOT part of the original series. What they're doing to X-Com is like if the next Halo game was a platformer set in a magical pony rainbow land. Gah!

Now I've never played the XCOM series, but I can relate to Spoony's reaction given what Gearbox is doing to the Brothers in Arms series:

It's a different frankenstein, TF2 rip-off-ing, terrible beast altogether...

Why? Couldn't they have just made it a different game? Wouldn't that save a whole ton of problems from the fanbase and make it a little more appealing? Stupid move on their part, I say.

At the moment, no beloved series of mine pops into my head. But I do feel a little pissed at Gearbox for that atrocious fecal-beast which was showcased in that trailer.

Judging by your answer, I assume you haven't played a Brothers in Arms game before.

One of the major things the Brothers in Arms series is known for is its message of the human cost of war. It's the only WW2 series that made me actually care about the characters. Each squad member has his own backstory and personality, making them feel like real human beings. They're genuinely likeable and three-dimensional characters. When they begin to be picked off one by one in battle, I really felt remorseful at their passing. Hell, I was actually moved to tears by some of the deaths. It's almost like a video game adaptation of the excellent Band of Brothers series.

Now it's reduced to stupid machismo posturing with lead characters that are not only thoroughly unlikeable, but downright psychotic. Maybe it's fine for Duke Nukem, but not Brothers in Arms.

I don't think they are canceling the main story arc, that would be foolish. I doubt they would give the main series to a different development team (they're different right?) as they could screw up the main storyline. I'd say it's a spin-off so I'd relax a bit. I can sympathize with your frustration though.

And given the trailer, isn't this the non-serious arcade FPS that everyone is pining for? I've been waiting for "Inglorious Bastards: The Game" for quite some time.

OT: Star fox Adventures. Both a betrayal to the fanbase and the developer. Shame Nintendo.
