We've all got things regarding gaming that we spend our time desperately, desperately hoping will end up happening one day. Things we want to see so badly we'll give anything for them to become reality. Whether it be games we want to see made, ports we want to see happen, or even sometimes franchises we want to see officially destroyed forever.

So I'm asking an open question of what is the thing in gaming that you'd most like to see happen, no matter how unlikely or far fetched it seems?

To submit my own answer, which is the reason I got thinking about this:

I want to see old Final Fantasy titles ported to the Nintendo Switch.

I just today found out that Square Enix is bringing out ports of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, on the Switch. And that led me to then find out that they're porting Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX to the Switch sometime this year as well.

And well... I kind of largely missed the Final Fantasy trend given I never had a PS1 growing up, and have always wanted to play them. And I don't really want to have to buy a second-hand PS Vita to comfortably play entries 1 to 9, given the Vita is currently the only system available that has all of the old ones on it.

The Switch is a brilliant machine, a fantastic handheld device (because seriously who actually uses it docked, honestly) and given Sony clearly murdered the Vita in cold blood it's not like Square is getting much out of not more widely releasing the old titles. They've already done the bulk of the port work getting them onto PSP/Vita systems, it surely can't cost them that much to port them to the Switch so it'd be more than financially worth it for them.

I just... I need this in my life. I can think of nothing I want more than to be able to pick my Switch up and dive into vintage Final Fantasy games on the go.

My biggest hope is that The Elder Scrolls VI will replace Morrowind as my favorite game. I wouldn't bet on it, but I still hope.

You could just get a PSP, they sell for dirt cheap on eBay and you can play almost all of them (not sure about 3). Just FYI 1-3 aren't really worth playing, 4 is interesting from a story point of view but the gameplay is really barebone so I'd just watch a let's play). 5 is the opposite, with great gameplay but poor story (but with a few interesting moment). 6 is arguably the pinnacle of the series, with a very interesting non linear story, large cast of character that all play differently, a good balance between serious section and humor and large amount of content. FF7 earned it's reputation, the 3D model look like crap today but the background are still pretty solid, gameplay is nicely customizable but it's far too easy (I beat it being literally unable to read english and not understanding most system). 8 is.. well controversial, gameplay took a nose dive and you have to spend a bunch of time just grinding magic in combat (it's boring) and most fight just boil down to summoning (lengthy cinematic sequence) until you win, story is also uneven but has it's charm. 9 looks cartoonish, but it has a pretty dark story, gameplay is limited but well build. Oh and make sure you play with music on, the FF series greatest achievement is the music, they all have great soundtrack (with 8 being my personal favorite and 9 right behind it).

My biggest hope is probably that mount and blade 2 actually come out one day... Oh and I just pre ordered ace combat 7, hope they can recapture the feeling of 4/5/zero (and if it get really popular maybe we could get a remake of 3, pretty please?).

For Shin Megami Tensei V be so damn good, so difficult and so 'metal' when it comes out that Nocturne will no longer be viewed as the best/most 'metal' game in the series. Maybe they can throw Dante/Nero/Vergil cameos in there and have it come out around the same time as Devil May Cry 5 just to make absolutely sure.

Similar to the OP, a 3DS remake of Final Fantasy 6 with re-balanced combat and using Kefka and Terra's voice actors from the Dissidia games, as well as good actors and dialogue for everyone else.

Beyond that, just the usual revivals of good franchises that have been dead for years, like Front Mission and Wild Arms.

It's a very specific, very very unlikely hope, but...I hope Lucia returns in Devil May Cry 5.

While I'm throwing out impossible wishes for the unicorn genie, I'd also like Bloodborne to get a PC port.

And for my third wish, more Eeveelutions.

A world without gambling random generated lootbox bullshit. If you want to sell microtransactions fine, I accept that. But none of this bullshit hidden prices and manipulation stuff.

I would like to see more devs return to small scale social gaming, rather than the mass free-for-all we see the market heading towards nowadays (battle royales, anyone?). GTA:O vs RDR:O is a perfect example of what I mean. When GTA:O was first released, players could choose from a wide variety of lobbies - players could play GTA:O in solo lobbies, in fully open public lobbies, or in a range of smaller, party friendly lobbies such as 'friends only', 'party only', 'clan only' or 'clan vs clan'. However, more recently the updates for GTA:O have all contained content only available in fully open public lobbies, and this mentality has tainted the production of RDR:O too, with open public lobbies being the *only* lobbies available.

Now (and this may be an unpopular view, but here we go) I don't particularly like public lobbies. See, I have friends. And when I like to game, I like to game with my friends. I have no desire to play with a bunch of Internet randoms. Being able to jump into a public lobby is great for ol' Billy No-mates, but if I can game with friends I will - and I don't like the current trend in gaming for the push towards mass lobbies. I will also just point out that I have absolutely no objection to mass lobbies existing. What I have an issue with are devs (Rockstar) shelving private lobbies to push entirely public lobbies on people whether they like them or not. By all means let's have both, so that folks who like FFAs can brawl away to their hearts content, and folks who like friendly inter-team rivalries and dick one another over to their hearts content too.

And.

Breathe.

A direct sequel to The Legend of Dragoon would be my pick. One of my fav games of all time and a hidden gem of the ps1 era.

My great hope is that they just own up to DMC2 and accept it and do the best they can with it, which includes Lucia for me, she also had a pretty cool Devil Trigger.

Something I really liked about it (Keep in mind I played it like, ten years after it was released) is that because powers were not tied to the individual characters, they could actually give tension to whether or someone will live or die because anyone could pick up the torch after them to still let you have those powers for combat but in terms of story it was anyone's game as to what would happen.

Doesn't DMC 5 take place after DMC 2? Or is Capcom trying to act like it doesn't exist, or, "this installment exists, but we don't talk about it"? (like Star Trek V for instance).

I want it to burn to the ground.

Violently.

I hate videogames.

They hated me first though, so I'm only on the defense here.

...

Still gonna play them.

It's a complicated relationship.

Or maybe I'm compulsively ironic.

Delusional.

Nah, they're shit.

Or are they?

Who am I even talking to at this point?

Hurry up, Supergiant games and release Hades on consoles!

...

Only when I can afford it though.

AND NOT A MOMENT SOONER!

For Creative Assembly to make Total War: Iron Kingdoms even though it'll be unlikely from both sides of that license...

For the next Assassin's Creed game to be the last and for the modern sections to be actually interesting...

Yeah, it's not common for a Jrpg to kill a core party member a quarter of the game in like that. Also it was back in the day where games had multiple disks so each disc ended in a climax of sorts and it was at the end of disc one that this happened. I was in complete shock back in the day when I first played it. (it being back in the actual late 90s haha)

Bloodborne PC. A good PC port.

Assassins Creed actually do something interesting with the ISU sub-plot. Also, make a group of proto/Templars that aren't complete fucking douchebags but rather have actual goals and ambitions besides raw power and come across as people with reasonable goals who do shitty things to achieve them(kinda like you're supposed to be).

Remake Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker in the Fox Engine. Leave the story and characters intact. Also, make Mother base interesting to explore if you're gonna make it explorable.

Failing that, Remake MGSV: Phantom Pain but with an actual second act, an actual ending, Snake actually fucking talks and the Cypher stuff integrated into the actual plot and not just buried in a bunch of unlockable endgame audio tapes. Also, fix "The man who sold the world" not just be almost completely identical(including the tutorial messages) to the opening mission other then like 2 particular bits.

Good PC Ports of FF5 and FF6, not those ugly mobile ports on Steam.

Yes, it has been confirmed that Devil May Cry 5 takes place after 2.

Two things.

1. That this horrible trend of reduced content in favor of "player choice" between endless grind or micro transactions that does nothing but hurt game design ends.

2. That the gaming industry stop viewing polished, single player experiences as "dead" or "failures" because they don't make all of the money like live service open world games do.

Oh, one more thing. A new damn Splinter Cell game that Ubisoft somehow manages to not fuck up with open world nonsense or always online bull shit.

A worthy sequel to Burnout Revenge; Paradise was very much NOT.

And whatever Playdead?s next game is going to be; saw it hinted at on Twitter a couple years ago and have been waiting ever since.

I want to see Space Marine 2, and the explanation for Titus's resistance to Chaos is he's a latent psyker and the psychic scourge 'activated' him and he becomes a Librarian. That way we can introduce psychic powers in the game mechanics.
