Well after a week of effort I sold the Geobat [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.315830-Redlins-EXTREME-30K-Review-The-Geobat], my first car. That car had quite a bit of history with me and I'm a little sorry to see it leave the family. My new car, a Nissan Versa, is much more reliable and should be able to take me further than 2000 KM between repairs...

So what is your car history?

Do you remember your first car, the cars that followed?

Which car sticks out the most in your memory?

What stories do you have about your cars?

Seeing as I've only had one car that was mine for any length of time, I guess I don't have much to talk about. There was the one time the Geo stalled and I had to push it home in my hometown...

Anyway, your turn. I'm sure some of you Escapists out there have stories to tell :p

My first car was given to me by my grandfather and it was a 92 or 93 Ford Escort GT. Unfortunately it was in an accident to which the frame was bent in a way where it was not fixable. :[

Now I own 2005 Scion xB and while I do love my car, I still miss my Escort. It was a fun little car.

I am currently on my third vehical. My first was a white '88 Plymouth K Car sedan, and suprisingly wasn't that bad. It had low KM, and had been well looked after by its preivious owners. Unfortunatly for it, I got seduced by the lust deamon of power and speed, and sold it so I could by a '89 Acura Legend (coupe 3.8L V6 5-speed) a year or so later.

The Legend was a pretty good at first. Fast, fun to drive, a good stereo, but things started go downhill after a few years. I paid $2500 (CDN) for it, and ended up spending close to that again in repairs and replacement parts. It's death knell came when it started to have fuel pump problems, and I didn't have the money to fix it. So I called a wreck removal service and the took her away.

Fortunatly for me, at the same time my grandfather was getting rid of his '71 VW van. As I had expressed an intrest in it when he'd bought it, he gifted it to me. Now my grandpa was never one to remeember birthdays, and he goes to Mexico for the winter, so is never here for Christmas, so getting a gift of any kind is a rare thing (I'm not complaing, thats jus who he is), so the was a BIG suprise...also one of the best gift ever!

I'm not old enough to have ever had a car, but my dad once had a car, which while otherwise a great car, had a broken suspension.
Now, he probably could have shelled out to pay for repairs, and driven off into the sunset.

Nope.
My dad decided to take things into his own hands.
He got a properly shaped block of wood and jammed it into place to serve as a fix.
See, it worked pretty well, but every now and then it'd get shaken loose from the motion of the car, and he'd have to put it back in its place.
I love my dad.

My first car was a red 93 Honda Civic that I got for free because a friend of my dads was moving and was just gonna junk it anyway. It was a piece of crap, the brakes had this tendency to...not work. I ended up selling the car because it wasn't worth the cash to keep it up. The money I sold it for I used to buy my first Nintendo DS (before anyone asks, yes, I had cash left over)

So after that I shared a family car. The Nissan March. I loved that car (I was in Japan at the time, same with the civic) For anyone who doesn't know what a March is, it's kinda like a cross between a mini cooper and a beetle. That was never MY car, but I loved it.

Right now I'm back in the states and driving a 2003 Kia Spectra. The car runs fine, but I got into a small fender bender about two years ago, the hood is a little crunched in places. The AC doesn't work and there's a large crack in the windshield from a chip I didn't notice in time.

1998 Buick LeSabre - 2004 thru 2008. 180,000 mi to 230,000 mi. Sold it to my sister when I hydro-locked the motor (huge coolant leak). She dropped a new motor in and drove it for 3 more years and 30,000 more mi.

2006 Corvette - 2006 thru present - summer and fun car. The product of 2 years of no girlfriend, no rent, limited drinking.

2001 Chevy Malibu - 2008 thru present - 120,000 mi, used to be my wife's car. On 2nd motor after blowing a water pump and heat-locking the engine (I was 80 mi from home and it was 2am - definitely was in my best interest to try to get home). I'm trying to get it to last a couple more years

Car #1......1986 Nissan Pulsar. 2 doors...sporty looking but had a tiny 4 banger. Had a fair amount of issues with it but it got the job done and being in high school, I wasn't too picky. I put a huge 6 foot CB antenna on it so it looked like a giant remote controlled car. Rear ended someone on a rain slicked road and that lead to....
Care #2.....1988 Toyota pickup. Small truck, very simple. Great vehicle. It was in the family for 13 years and never gave any of us any issues until towards the end. The starter was going out. Easy and cheap to fix but I never bothered cause I was finally out of debt and decided I wanted......
Car #3......2000 Toyota Tacoma Extended Cab Pre-Runner. Loved that truck. Looked great, ran great. Tossed on nerf bars and a grill guard. Twas fantastic. Even put in a nice stereo. It too ran into starter issues but I fixed that. Most of the tinkering I did to it was towards the end of my ownership of it in a feeble attempt to stave off the desire to purchase......
Car #4......2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8. I can't express how much I love this car. I never had a v8 engine before and I'm highly spoiled on its power. About 6 months after getting the Challenger I got a 2009 Suzuki Boulevard C50 motorcycle. Tons of fun and I justfied the purchase by telling myself it's way more ecconomical than the car....which it is....by quite a bit. The problem I have now is recent announcements have made me want to investigate potential......
Car #5.....2012 Dodge Challenger Yellow Jacket. Limited run Challenger of the 2012 year models. Pricing should be announced soon. They only plan on making about 1000 of them so if the price is in the range I hope it is, then I'll have to pester the local dealership about trying to get one. I really like the idea of having a fairly rare\unique car and this one would definitely stick out as not only would it be rare, it would also be bright yellow.

Car #1: 1985 Chevy Celebrity, AM Radio only. Got this Junior year of high school. Had it for two years and sold it to my sister for like $100. Many good times in this car, loved being the one who drove all my friends to and from school.

Car #2: Dodge Shadow, don't know the year. 1990? Only had it for one year, my Sophomore year of college. Was my grandmother's old car, she gave it to me for my birthday when she got herself a new one. Drove it all year at school, then the following summer was rear-ended hard by a delivery van and it was totaled. Really liked this car.

Car #3: 1990 VW Golf. Bought this from a coworker for almost nothing, it was my first time driving standard, and I didn't take to it easily. Also amusing that this thing had an alarm, which was a source of amusement for my friends, because it was kind of a crappy car. Drove this for two and a half years, when I finished college. Only car I've ever owned that I never developed an affection for. Hated driving standard, swore never again.

Car #4: 2000 Dodge Neon. College graduation gift. Drove it into the ground for ten years, when it finally just died. Sad day. Put like 150,000 miles on it. Towards the end though, too many things kept going wrong, and in fact I'd just had like $1500 in repairs done (including a brand-spanking new muffler) like a month before it dies. Which sucked.

Car #5: 2010 Chevy Celebrity. Have had it for a year and a half. First new car I owned. Not used to all the things that have changed in cars since 2000.

Yeah, I like small cars.

Inherited first car from parents. '98 Lumnia.

My parents hit a deer with it a year ago. Destroyed driver's side head light, crushed the driver's side hood and fender.

We managed to fix it up this past February.

It's had over 200,000 miles for the past couple of years.

First: 1982 Honda Civic. And it was 10 years old when it was given to me.
Second: 1987 Chevy Celebrity, I loved that car. Even with the rack-and-pinion problems.
Third: 1983 Grand LeMans Brougham. If I had disposable income, it would have been a classic. Instead, it was a pile of junk.
Fourth: 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. Not a bad car, I despised changing the oil because it was intentionally difficult to change the filter. Call me crazy, but I like doing the easy jobs like oil changes and lube on my vehicle.
Fifth: 1996 Hyundai Accent. Not a bad car, but was oddly hard on gas.
Sixth: 2003 Dodge Minivan. Survived a collision with a moose, but was written off when I hit a deer a few yeas later and a car was following me too closely and rear-ended me. The space was both a perk and a liability because it's tempting to ignore the trash in the back until it starts moving on its own.
Seventh: 2007 Hyundai Tucson. Nice vehicle thus far. Little cramped, but easier to keep clean because you can't ignore the trash. Handles well in bad weather even without proper snow tires. Fairly good gas mileage for a small SUV.

1967 Mercury Cougar: Project car given to me on my 15th birthday. Never got repaired and never saw and street duty.

1984 Ford LTD: First car I got to drive on the street. Totaled it 5 months after I started driving it.

1984 Ford Crown Victoria: Drove it for 2 and a half years, sold it because I had to far to drive and couldn't afford to keep gas in the tank.

1995 Ford Probe: Replaced the Crown Vic, got my first two speeding tickets in that car, my parent's took it away from me and then sold it after I wrecked my mother's van.

1986 Ford Bronco 2: Learned how to drive a manual transmission in that truck. Then all of the electrical parts failed at the same time. Donated it to charity.

1990 Ford F-150: Hand-me-down from my father. Regular cab with a manual transmission. Had more call to haul people than I did to haul stuff, so I traded it in on a...

2001 Ford Focus ZX3: First car I bought new. Drove it for 3 years and then wrecked it avoiding a Mercedes that ran a red light. I would have been killed by the airbag if I had kept the stock driver's seat.

2004 Subaru Impreza TS: Also bought new, replaced the Focus after I totaled it. Paid it off in 4 years, am still driving it today, 141000 miles later. It had 12 miles on it when I bought it. No plans to replace it.

First vehicle was 99 Red Silverado given to me as a graduation gift(this was in 2006). I sold it shortly after for $1800 CAN. I used that money(plus alot more money) to buy my first true vehicle: a 2002 Blue 4x4 Silverado! I remember my first time driving it out of the dealer's lot and that feeling that you own a truck that you bought with your own hard earned cash. Memories ensued. I lost my virginity thanks to it, I remember taking about 15 friends for cruises around the mountains, trails, and beaches, impromptu coffee runs at 2:00AM(even though I don't drink coffee), hikes, hunting trips, and car washes that took well over a half hour. Had to sell it due to stacking problems with the undercarriage and engine.

My current one is a 2009 Black Cobalt. Got it during my fist year of university. I'm just about done paying it. The final payment date is December 12, 2011.

My first (and current) car is a 1999 Holden Barina which I got use of after my brother moved out. This is what it looks like, although mine is a four door:

It goes from A to B, but thanks to a couple of years of thrashing by my brother (this thing has been taken through the bush, had burnouts done in it, been ramped and gotten air, and regularly been driven by a madman), it's gradually imploding. It leaks engine oil thanks to my brother cracking the sump and busting the exhaust off when he tried to take it on a track that a small 4WD would struggle with, the air conditioning doesn't work (fun times in the wet season), and the seatbelt buckle on the driver's side is broken. I have to use the passenger buckle, meaning nobody can sit in the front.

I'm still on my first vehicle an 84 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham with a 350 v8 out of a delta 88, My parents bought if for me but it had no engine, transmission, radiator, or headliner. My cousin was scrapping his car so we bought the recently rebuilt engine and transmission and radiator, my dad does upholstery on the side so he got the interior all put together. No major mechanical issues besides a worn timing gear that was know to go at around 60k miles. 7 years later and the thing still runs like a dream but the body was alread a little rusty when I got her and she's fallin apart now, the bumpers all rust, I have no drivers side front pillar it rusted away and now the paint has rust bleeding through. It's going to be a sad day when I have to replace her.
