Hi, Redlin here. You may know me from such threads as-

Right, straight to business.

What is your career path and why do you think/know that is?

or

If you don't have a career in mind, why do you think that is?

Ever since an extra elective I took in High School, I've been in love with filming video and editing it. During my senior year (year three of that elective) I decided that being a cameraman is what I want to be.

However, since I've jumped into a Documentary film course, I'm enjoying directing as much as filming and editing. So I know that somewhere in the film world there is a niche for me, I just have to decide where it is. I still love being the cameraguy as well as the editor but running things is quite fun also. I'm apparently quite good at what I do if my professors are to be believed XD

Your turn!

[sub]Man, it has been awhile since I jumped out of Forum Games.[/sub]

I also want to do something to do with film. I don't know what though. A critic would be fine, although I don't know if I could do it for a long time.

Directing is something I'm interested in, although I have no experience yet.

Acting is another interest, and I actually do have a couple plays under my belt. (Granted, those were when I was in grade...2, I think. >_>)

Editing...not so much. I've done editing before, but it's just so time consuming, and not all that fun. Fairly easy though.

Script writing is something I could probably do fairly well, and is the most "logical" choice, I suppose.

I don't know. Films are my only real interest right now, so that's the direction I'm heading. Something to do with them, anyway.

I am a computer science major, but I have already signed a contract to program for Microsoft.

I chose this because, in middle school, my friends and I would play games with the library computer's command prompts. We were suspended multiple times for doing different things, but I started loving programming.
Then over my years through high school I taught myself multiple programming languages, then I went to college and started taking classes, and soon I'll be at a job doing what I love.

Uh... ignoring the poorly mapped out first post and responding to the question in the thread title...

I'm a doctor. Why am i a doctor? Because i have a deep fear of free time and my love life.
...in all seriousness, i'm a doctor just because it's what i'm good at.

Well, I'm thinking I'm going to major in computer science and get a minor in game design (or something along those lines), as I want to be either a games programmer or a designer. In my programming class I'm in the high 90's so I think this is a great choice.

I'm also thinking of trying to get into 3d animation, though I don't know how well that would work as I cannot draw very well. I'll just have to try it and see.

How'd you go about teaching yourself programming launguages? Did you just get a book? I find it hard to imagine learning something such as C++ without the aid of teacher...

I'm a cook. I work for basic wages in an entry-level establishment with shit hours.

This is because I am sick. I find study almost impossible due to my condition, and therefore do what I know - cooking. It's better than sponging off of welfare...

But in my spare time, I'm a very competant digital artist. I illustrate and work with photo manipulation. Most people don't know, as I do it as therapy as much as for anything else. But it's nice to know, despite my apparent lack of career, that there is something I can do with my life.

I started with C++ For Dummies and then once I got the gist of it I just took off from there.
Honestly C++ wasn't that hard to learn, compared to some other ones.

Yeah, that's the main reason I'm saving to learn how to program until classes are available.

OT:

I'd like to Major in Computer Science or Computer Hardware/Software Engineering (either one is fine.), and Minor in something that I'd like to have more skill in, like Creative Writing or maybe Film Studies or something.

Mainly because I like computers, not much of a people person, and I have a shitload of free time.

...I've changed careers four times now... unless you count the many times I've used the automotive industry as a fallback position.

First it was Information Technology, but that dead-ended into tech support eventually.
Then it was electrical engineering, but that dead-ended into unemployment.
...then I was a soldier for a few years. The army insists on calling it a career, so I guess it counts.
Got into machining for a bit, but I lack the patience for technical jobs that I used to have...
So I'm getting into private armed security now.

I wanna make comics and my own cartoons and maybe do cover art for games/books/etc.

I hope this speaks for itself.

Medicine, originally as military, but after a medical discharge (irony there...) as a civilian. Currently a med student planning on an oncology or ER residency.

For me there is no job with greater satisfaction.

I'm on my way to becoming an astrophysicist, pseudo-engineer, and hopefully astronaut one day.

I will not die without going up into space.

I'm a network technician.

SOMEONE has to provide internet to the masses. The Cloud doesn't magically bestow a connection, unlike most people think.

Career = music industry. Why - I ask myself that every day! Maybe because I'm really good at it, and no good at anything else, heh.

I've wanted to get into games, but more in the cinematic areas (like voice acting or perhaps working on cutscenes or writing), or just get into the film industry in similar areas. I have lots of ideas, but no way to express them.

i have been cooking for about as long as i have been able to work. seemed like a logical step to just get really good at it. that lasted for a while, but now i am back in school for computer programming. after all of the chaos of restaurants, it is very nice to have the extreme order of unfeeling machines.

I am an English Major in college, taking as many electives as possible because, although eventually I will have my doctorate in English, and will be a Professor, I really want to be an author, and the only way to get good at writing is to do a lot of it. I have a novel in the works, and I think it will be good, plus I write a lot of little short stories to keep myself entertained.

Nearly forgot why:

I love to write, and it is one of the few things people say I am genuinely good at. Plus, I have loved reading since I first picked up Hunt for Red October when I was 13. I still hope I can be as good as Tom Clancy someday.
