I'm a transvestite. I'm an atheist. I've had premarital sex. I've dabbled in BDSM. I've kissed and dated guys. (I was uncertain about my sexuality, though now I know that I'm straight.) I haven't told my parents about this. I don't think I ever will. So what's your closet that you haven't come out of yet? I'm not just talking LBGT stuff, I'm talking any kind of lifestyle choice that your parents (or other people close to you) wouldn't approve of or that for other reasons you're keeping secret.

EDIT: I see a lot of people getting into religious debates here. Don't do that, people. This is a thread about lifestyle choices you haven't dared to be open about yet. Feel free to mention religion in connection to that, but no religious debates that aren't about being open or not about your beliefs or lack thereof. Stick to the subject, please.

Is being a Atheist a bad thing? I heard all the time that most American's are very religious people, but here in the UK, you are pretty much deemed a social outcast for not being one. Which is quite strange considering how religious focused our country was in the past.

No deep dark secrets really. I suppose some of my habitual activities may be deemed a smidgen odd by most people. Namely the copious quantities of 1980's movies I watch on a daily basis. Really though, that's nothing to be ashamed of, right Zach?

First of all, thanks for complimenting my English. Secondly, I'm Swedish :) And here, being an atheist is pretty much par for the course. But my parents thinks that I'll go to Hell forever for not believing in God. Well, at least my mom and brother would think so if I told them.

Same thing in Sweden. Here the religious people are shunned and being atheist is the norm.

OT: Nothing to come out with for me. I haven't really told my mom about my mental health, but I think she's got a pretty good clue.

I'm a Christian and I like BSDM. Figure that one out. (And no, I'm not the one who wrote the letter to Love FAQ).

Oh I see, thanks for clearing up my confusion.

I would just talk to them, I'm sure they will understand. We all have our own stance on religion, and if she was a good Christian then she would respect you're opinion.

Being an open pansexual, polyamorous, masochistic/submissive transsexual, don't really have anything to hide really. I've sort of taken a vow at total honesty/disclosure when I clued in I was trans, as I felt like I was lying to myself, and everyone around me for some 18 years.

Only thing I haven't told my parents about is liking MLP (I know, petty). But that's pretty much it. It probably still would be awkward

Dad will understand, because he doesn't really care about religion all that much. But Mom won't be okay with it, because she genuinely believes that atheists are tormented eternally. So I'll just have to disagree as much as I can without ever going so far as to say that God isn't real. At most I'll say "Is there any evidence at all that God is as nice as he says? Maybe he just claims he's good for the sake of PR."

Transvestite means that I dress in women's clothing. Skirts, pantyhose and so on. And since I live on my own, there's no way for them to know. And to answer your other question, there's nothing wrong with enjoying kids' shows. I'm a brony, after all, how could I condemn that?

I'm bisexual and I haven't come out to anyone about it yet, though I wonder if anyone might have already pegged it or if I'm just imagining singal's with this cute boy in my class...but yeah, I know for a fact that my parents/general family won't have any problem with it, though I'm a bit more concerned about some of my friends particularly one who has expressed some pretty homophobic sentiments in the past, which I'm kind of hoping he won't be serious about when push comes to shove. Though that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

Also that, I don't think my parents would particularly care and my friends would likely give me shit for it, though I don't feel particularly obligated to divulge my bronyism (totally a word) as I don't really see how what I do or don't watch to be anyone's business. That's pretty much it, I can't really think of any other skeletons in my closet I might have.

Honestly, my mom probably wouldn't care all that much. Heck, she might even try watching it. I got her watching Doctor Who. It's my dad and brothers who I worry about, seeing as they fling me crap about lots of small things, like watching doctor who. Also, if one my brothers found out, everyone we know would know in less than a day, seeing as they're big chatterboxes on Facebook

Nothing. I refuse to hide what an asshole I am from anyone. If you don't like me, there's the door, god knows that I probably don't like you either(statistically speaking).

Nah, I'm United Methodist. And the Methodist churches I'm involved in are quite liberal, at that. There are still some conservatives who dislike homosexuals and seem to not believe that sex was made by God, but I am not in that school of thought (I still endorse the no sex before marriage thing, though ;-) )
