I don't really tell anyone much about myself so I don't think many people know the "real" me. I don't tend to keep many friends in real life, I often end up losing contact and/or alienating them. Even my best friend, who is a girl, doesn't really know all that much about me, even if she thinks she does.

I am a furry and a brony, something I have told only one person about. My parents would never understand either of those and it's just not worth bothering to tell them, even if I consider being a furry to be quite a large part of my personality.

There's also the possibility that I am bisexual, but being the introvert I am, I haven't really been able to explore that. I think if I were brave enough to explore it and confirm it, I might be more comfortable actually revealing that aspect of myself over the other two! Odd, but I guess that's just how society makes me feel.

Though I'm not a Jehovah Witness I go to their churches a believe what they believe. I believe in what I learn and have never been happier with my region, but people really don't like Jehovah witnesses. Their the nicest people I know and follow the bible the closest then any other form of Christianity, but they cause a lot of flak if you mention their name. I want to stick up more for what I believe but I don't want to alienate people.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful here, but the main reason people seem to dislike Jehovah Witnesses is because they tend to try and force their religion on others. They are the only religious group I know of who will come knocking on our doors to preach the word. Now that's all well and good, I have NO problem with people believing in a God or practicing any kind of religion, but please don't force it on others as if it is the ONLY way to live. I find that rather self righteous.

That's not a rant at you, just trying to clarify the reasons behind people's dislike. I'm sure that, at least for my part, it is not a prejudice thing.

I dnt want to get into religious debate. But... Uh... Have you read the Bible ? like God seding bears to maul children for calling a guy bald. I find that funny, but if I took it seriously, it would be entirely different. Or Moses and the angel of deth killing firstborns who did fuck all to anyone
Their are a lot of things in the bible I don't quite get either, but I am making my way throughout he bible and trying to make sense of some of those weird things. A big thing about studying with Jehovah witnesses is that they know that you need to ask questions, and sometimes just believing isn't enough. Not to be a dick either, but Their have been a lot of stories and scriptures altered in the bible since it was originally written. The king James Bible is the biggest one I know of, Its been altered in very big ways from a lot of the original scriptures and contradicts itself a lot.

hmm...not to sure about that. I think Eastern Orthodox Christians would be the nearest thing to original Christianity.
Possibly, but in my area they do the best, and its never made more sense, I can actually read the bible know and understand it. I just like the way they do things, its a form of Christianity where the church is run by its goers not by a paid priest, it seems like the way things should be.
I hate to be petty, but the one thing I can't stand about is how they say Jehovah, because that is not how you say the name of G-d in Hebrew, but maybe that's just the Jew in me.

I'm a transvestite. I'm an atheist. I haven't told my parents about this. I don't think I ever will. So what's your closet that you haven't come out of yet? I'm not just talking LBGT stuff, I'm talking any kind of lifestyle choice that your parents (or other people close to you) wouldn't approve of or that for other reasons you're keeping secret.
Is being a Atheist a bad thing? I heard all the time that most American's are very religious people, but here in the UK, you are pretty much deemed a social outcast for not being one. Which is quite strange considering how religious focused our country was in the past.
I would not say those 'most Americans' are anything, let alone deeply religious. If you're only watching the Americans you see on the news--they're a minority of psychopaths who make the rest of us look like a bunch of gun-totting bible-thumping intolerant conservatives.

Most people are moderate. A good chunk of Americans, statistically, are Christian. Apparently about 60% (but considering yourself as part of a religion doesn't automatically mean you are 'deeply' apart of it). But when you're every other countries' catch-all for people---you get people from all over the world and all different religions. Also, we haven't had religious wars like Europe and the Middle East. So it makes more sense that there are more religious people here who aren't as distrustful of religion as an institution.

Also, after WW2 and the Baby Boom era, a lot of our deeply religious people (who are not psychotic) are now in their sixties and seventies. And as time goes on and that generation dies out, more people are growing up as atheist or agnostic. Because religion is so polarizing in terms of how its used in politics, I know a lot of people my age (twenties) are just sick of old politicians using religion as a justification and a weapon with which to hate others who are different.

Too much rambling, sorry. Haha.

The big one would be that I am Bisexual. That is pretty much the only thing that eventually is going to need to be said. Not exactly looking forward to that conversation with my parents. From what I have seen of them they are not exactly the most accepting of homosexuality.

No closet-things for me to come out of.

Seems that alot on here thinks atheism is something to come out with so I'll go with that, even tough no one in my family or close relatives are anywhere near religious.

I'm a pansexual and submissive (BDSM) but worst of all, I've written some fan-fiction in my time.

It's hardly forcing it on you, their just following the bible. Its a christian duty to spread the word of god across the world, and they try their best to do it. You can't blame them for trying to spread something that they believe to be the truth. Jehovah witnesses are never mean and if you ask them to leave they leave. They don't think if you don't believe in Jesus you go to hell, quite the opposite. But they do want to follow the bible, and be the best christian they can and part of that is spreading the word of god.

Yanno, honestly as someone who tries to live their life like an open book for anyone who gives two shits to look I find it sort of distressing the presupposition that everyone automatically has secrets to hide that they eventually have to confess to everyone.

Really, making some grandstanding announcement intended as a revelation in an overworked laborous fashion at an awkward and perhaps inopportune time has always seemed like a sad cry for attention to me. It feels like it signifies a much deeper issue left under the surface.

But hey, what do I know? I really dont give a shit what people think about me so I have no reason to keep internalized secrets about myself. Seems healthier to me than to bottle things up inside and have to agonize over it endlessly.

I'm a Christian. I got out before I got addicted to MLP. I smoke cigarettes and my parents don't know about it. Just got back from Iraq and people keep asking me if I "saw anything" which is a yes but doesn't bother me in the slightest

Nope. Anything I would be or feel ashamed of, I tend to not do.

You know, self respect and all that jazz.

It should be understood that the significance of things (such as rape, execution, certain punishments, etc.) for different cultures was entirely dependent on that cultures perception of how things should be.

Lets take how rape has been defined in past centuries. Ancient Greece for instance (and in fact not too long ago), rape wasn't so much considered as the unlawful forcing of yourself onto another person sexually, but rather the taking of something you do not have the right or authority to take. Such as the "rape" of Persephone, when Hades takes Persephone down into the underworld to have her marry him, he didn't actually have sex with her, but instead took her away without permission by Persephone's mother, Demeter.

Same as the "rape" of Helen, when Paris of Troy was invited into King Menelaus's home and unlawfully took Helen, Menelaus's wife, for himself and took her with him to Troy, causing the Trojan war.

The definition of and significance of rape has only changed within the pass couple of centuries, where before Dukes were allowed to lay with a woman right before she was married, because they had the AUTHORITY to do so. And more recently, a husband forcing himself onto his wife, even against her will, wasn't considered rape because she consented to marry him in the first place.

I'm just going to conclude with saying that Definitions and perceptions of terminology have altered with time, and being that the bible is fairly old (as well as being re-translated over centuries), it should be understood how certain actions and whatnot held different meaning and significance to different cultures involved in the bible.

Only closet thing that I had for a long time was still being a pervert, but that's pretty much out...

And my mom would approve of that, really, so nothing to day here.

Ugh. Do NOT get me started on the King James Bible. That's the reason so many people think it's somehow holier to say "thou" about God than "you." Even though in the das when people actually spoke like that, using "thou" instead of "you" with somebody of a higher class was disrespectful and you'd never[/i ] adress a king with "thou." And even though "old-fashioned" writing isn't more holy. And even though it's not old-fashioned with Shakespearian English considering that it's a much more modern language than the languages used in the Bible. So you're still being modern.

Like I said, don't get me started...

Pretty much same here I'm a long time active transvestite and into bdsm, not really coming out as I've been out to alot of ppl for a long time now :)
