I tend to keep my main computer upgraded on a part-by-part basis, about $150 at a time. (Making the jump to PCIe was a *****.)

Manufacturer: Custom-Built
Processor: Q6600 Quad Core (Earlier Model) At 2.7 Ghz/Core
Memory: 4 GB Kingston DDR3 1066
Hard Drive: Two 1 TB Seagate Barracuta 7200.11 (These are really unstable.)
Video Card: MSI GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB DD3 OC
Monitor: LG L1953S and Proview EMC (Normal Aspect Monitors)
Sound Card: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)
Speakers/Headphones: Creative 2.1 Speakers (or, if I want 5.1, I've got some Zalman surround headphones.)
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Motherboard: ASRock P45TS
Computer Case: APEVIA X-CRUISER-AL/420 Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower

My PC is the old drunk veteran in a rocking chair compared to the new marine that your computer is.

He needs to be taken out back and shot but then I'll have nothing shouting in the corner and I'll get lonely.

4 GB DDR2 RAM

I'll be changing to Windows 7 soon(ish) and updating the GFX card too - want to get a bigger case with a better PSU first though.

Area 51 ALX

That should speak for itself.
So its the average high performance Alienware with the incredibly stupid looking case?
Someone is looking to start an argument. No it is a very good computer that I love to death and it looks very good.

I didnt say it was a bad computer it has great specs that demolish mine I was just saying the case on most alienware computers look over the top to me
Forgive my mistake, it seemed like you were insulting it :p
In any case I like how they look (especially the alienware laptops) I guess we have different views on what looks good.

It's not necessarily an insult, I mean, if you have the money but not necessary the inclination to build your own machine, that's ok. The biggest issue most PC folks have with Alienware, is their huge Apple-like Markups, on hardware you could probably buy yourself and build for at least 500 cheaper. (At least). But, as I said, if you have the money to burn, why not.

That having been said, in the future, I recommend simply doing some research on pieces and parts and the process of putting together a PC. It's not hugely difficult, and really doesn't take that long, and you'll end up with more bang for your buck.
I was going to build one from the ground up with my cousin but we had a lot of trouble obtaining some parts (only a few places sell what we wanted) and I decided I would just buy the alienware one and save myself the trouble. I don't regret my decision though I would look in to making my own next time.

If you don't mind my asking, what parts were you looking for? I tend to order largely from newegg.com, sometimes tigerdirect (if it's a deal). And generally use search engines like pricegrabber or nextag, to find the best deals I can for pieces and parts. Everyone has their own way though. Just curious anyway, when I put this PC together last year, finding the parts wasn't the issue, finding the money was haha. =)
Oh god what weren't we missing? The places really only sold things like hard drives and graphics cards, not enough to build a fully functioning computer, though recently my cousin found a place out of town he said had all we needed but it's a bit too late for that XD

And by the price of the Area 51 ALX you should know money wasn't an issue (Saved up for nearly a year)

Intel Core 2 Duo - 1.66GHz Processor
1.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce Go 7300
120GB Hardrive

OS: Linux Ubuntu

Browser: Firefox

and I mainly use it for browsing and storing music & pictures, so it meets all my needs
when browsing gets more memory hungry i'll add a GB or two

*light comes on* Oh...you were looking at stores in your area for parts, weren't you? Yeah, definitely going to get a much much healthier variety from places like newegg. And when they ship something to you...it fuckin gets to you fast. Usually between the next day and 3 days for regular shipping. Heh.

Yeah, I didn't actually save up for it, I simply bought a part or two a month, over a period of 6/mo. Worked out really well for me. =)
Geeze in hindsight we really should have looked online. Well I know where I will be getting my parts for my next computer.

Intel Core 2 Duo - 2.51GHz Processor
4GB RAM
Windows XP 32 bit
NVidia GeForce 9400GT
Samsung SyncMaster 920nw
750W Power supply
Foxconn ... Something or other.
Um...
That's all which is important I think. As you can tell, I may need an upgrade soon; mainly for my motherboard.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and a 1.5TB and a 150GB HDD.
