My friend in the British Army tells me the L85A2 is...pretty terrible, although it has improved slightly over time. I hope to try it out myself at a range event one day. There is something appealing about bullpup weapons, particularly the FAMAS.

Just look at that nifty stock.

EDIT: I've never noticed anyone firing an L85A2 in fully automatic, they seem to prefer squeezing of single shots. That sort of approach favours accuracy over rate of fire, I suppose.

The L85A2, or the L85 in general? Because, when they first got the things, there were serious issues, but they got them modified by, I think, H&K, into the L85A2, which fixed the issues, IIRC.

The FAMAS can't take STANAG magazines, which is a nuisance.

(Also, both the L85 and the AUG (don't know about the FAMAS) have ejection ports on the side, which means you can't swap shoulders without modifying the weapon unless you want hot brass in your face)

The A1 was absolutely god awful, rushed out and poorly produced which lead to a massive amount of reliability issues, there was some year or so of complaints about the A1 because of issues like the firing pin breaking after about 100 rounds of automatic fire, it jammed frequently and the locking pins punctured the stamped metal in the gun when replaced after a field strip, which made the thing unusable.

Took a lot of complaining before the A2 was designed and, from all accounts, it's widely recognised as one of the better, more reliable assault rifles out there.

Fictional would be the AK-2012 from Metro, great accuracy, rate of fire, 40 round magazine, lots of attachments.

Real world I'd go for the AN-94, essentially a high-tech AK-74 variant with a unique 2 round burst fire mode.

Oh that's an easy choice, it's always gonna be one assault rifle that'll show a bit of the old national pride.

Having said that, I've always been a fan of the Tar 21.

For real life weaponry, I've tend to like the look of bull-pup assault rifles, the FN-2000

and the TAR-21
Heck yeah, bullpup weapons are sweet. Especially the TAR-21... there's something beautiful about its minimalist design- it says "You don't need excess flair or over-designed surfaces; you need something that'll put fire on the enemy." It's just a pity that most bullpup weapons can't be safely fired by lefties without modifying the weapon.

Sure it can; the G2's receiver is designed to accept STANAG.

This thing from Mass Effect 2.
This thing was so much fun in my first playthrough. I was a soldier, so whenever I went into adrenaline rush I would just mow things down with it. Granted I was playing on Normal, when I did my insanity run I had a different rifle(I was also using a different class).

It's more of an SMG, but my final weapon from "resonance of fate" was pretty boss.

the game allows modifications to stack, even when they're illogical. As a result, my final, golden SMG had 6 magazines with a barrel drum beneath it, four grips, and 11 scopes, some of which were positioned in such a way that they couldn't be looked through.

thing aimed like a dream, and could pretty much scratch damage anything short of a bonus boss to death!
