- well for the record the only game that really scared my was the tech demo for penumbra. It blew my mind, Im in first person, trapped in an abondoned bomb shelter, that may also be a research facility- and what weapons do I have...

thats right my battery-dead flashlight, and some flares.

The first 10mins of the game were scary as hell, mainly because there were NO ENEMIES

the tension got so bad that when I finally saw the first 'thing' after a good 30-45mins of scary ambient, or worse complete silence- I literally threw my mouse across the room and panicked.

A good pointer for people who want to try out any of these game, dont use a chordless mouse...

When i first played fallout 3, i was in the sewer in anchorage, and i saw a raider named rocksalt

I figured since it had a name, killing it would impact the game, so i didn't want to kill it, but it kept chasing me around, and eventually i escaped with about 3 HP left

Since my mission was in the sewer, i decided to go back in, and i saw no sign of "Rocksalt", but when i finished the mission and was heading back to the door, no more than two feet away from the door, Rocksalt randomly materialized right in front of me, and shot me in the face with a shotgun, ending my life in a grunt birthday party of bloody chunks.

And did i mention my TV volume was at a high volume setting, and in a dark room?

Never gonna wear those pants again. . .

The first time I encounter a bloodsucker in STALKER. The darn thing has some cloak ability and I didn't notice it. When it appeared right infront of me and started attacking, I was shitting bricks.

But watching the Ring for the first time at 4am, on your own, when extremely high is not wise.

afterwards I kept checking every corner for 'em
and the 'shadow hole' creatures in Perseus Mandate...and most of the stuff in PM... Man, I was glad to have an arc lightning

Call of Cthulhu where the fishermen are chasing you through the apartment and you have to lock the doors to stop them coming in. That was very intense.

Fallout 3. Two words.

Ninja.
Deathclaws.

And to a certain extent, ninja yao guia.
Scares the shit out of me every time. How can two violent creatures that make a bit of noise be so silent when they attack from behind?

In Fallout 3 when your all alone and you hear heavy breathing, you turn around and suddenly a Deathclaw comes out of nowhere.
