Surprises:
Dark Souls,Spec Ops The Line,Battlefield Bad Company 1 and XCOM Enemy Unkown.
Disappointments:
GTAIV,BF3 and LA Noire(RDR made me have hope in the rockstar logo again after what happened with the mess up that was GTAIV, but this puts me in shaky grounds with them again.)

Suprises:
Bastion:
Loved every moment of it, nice game-play as well as gorgeous visuals and I still listen to the soundtrack.

FTL: Faster Than Light
Believe it or not, I stumbled across the Kickstarter page while it was still in progress and I didn't contribute, thinking it wouldn't be that good.

Boy was I F#cking wrong.

Transfromers: War for Cybertron
Surprisingly fun and respectful of the IP, now if only all licensed games were of this quality.

Regrets:
Dragon Age 2: From the copy/paste dungeon design, that 'pirate whore,' and stupid re-designs (the new darkspawn look like 'generic mook 25D' and waddle like my brother did with a full nappy. They are a far cry from the slasher smile wearing inhabitants of uncanny valley that were the first games foe.) really disappointed me and broke my faith in Bioware as a good Development Company. I could go on but I want to remember the good time I had with it, snarking with Varric and getting Aveline together rather than the bad.

Positive surprise:

Farcry 3 as I had no interest in the last two at all. The game does stealth better than half of the games designed around it. Few games have the same sense of satisfaction as this one does when you take down an entire outpost completely undetected. The only downside is the game begins to get repetitive by the end.

Surprisingly disappointed:

Dishonored as it looked so promising. It's not that the game is bad, it's that it wasted so much potential. The level design was especially underwhelming, as it gave deceptively little freedom, and due to the somewhat awkward detection system, staying hidden without an extremely large reliance on Blink, is damn near impossible. The game also makes it seem like you should play it stealthily, yet the abilities, tools and upgrades heavily favour combat.
