Currently building some civilization on an RP server I play on. Got the idea to build an oil rig -like mining complex next to a tree city. Hoping to get the players to fight each other for my amusement. :)

My first project was a complete disaster. It was just a tower with a fiery beacon on top. Long story short, the entire structure is now covered in flowing lava. I tried to save it, but the lava was too quick and all the floors I built from wood. I had to rush down the tower as the floors burned out around me! I just left the tower covered in lava because its hilarious. I lost a few chests in there though.
This is like some kind of insane noodle incident. "Yeah, I built a tower... except now it's in the middle of a lava flow." One wonders how that happens.

Me? I've been holding off on getting Minecraft... I don't want to get addicted.

Prison.

The idea is to build a large complex with many cells, dark enough so that monsters can spawn in them. Of course, with the doors controlled by levers, they can't leave without me opening the cell for them. So I can just sit and laugh at the creepers as revenge for all the times they blew up my walls.

I am currently in the process of demolishing a mountain and only having access via stairs and at the top of those stairs is my house made of obsidian
Around my house is a first moat of lava 2 x 2 x 2 and then a second moat of 2 x 2 x 18 filled with with water. Near the door there are two switches with arrow traps on the side so you can only go directly in and I'm going to make the house massive so I can build other projects within the castle.
Oh and my house base layer is made of obsidian too
I have a fucking fortress

I recently finished my last big project: I giant citadel in the sky with an obsidian spiral railway going up to it, flanked by dragon statues carved from lightstone with lava flowing from their mouths into the ocean. In the center is a large lightstone pyramid with a glass floor, underneath which is lava, and in the middle of the pyramid is a steel and obsidian statue sitting on a throne made up of stone and netherrack. INVedit=most definitely used.

My next big project is going to go on the multiplayer server I frequent, and it's going to be a big ass obsidian dungeon, complete with death traps, pit falls, dead ends, mob spawn rooms, treasure, equipment to find, and a big ass chest filled with diamond blocks at the end for a pay off. I just need to finish the proof of concept for all of the traps I want in there, and then break out some graph paper to figure out the layout.

I'm...probably going to shamelessly copy that because that looks and sounds brilliant. How will you deal with skeletons that spawn though? Won't they shoot through the half blocks?

I'm turning the island I'm on into a Fortress and a veeeeeery long "Train station" from my island to another far away island which I may start using if I start running out of materials.

Floating citadel.

It's coming up nicely. I have a platform with a water elevator attached to it, a spot for animals to chill out at (except I can't get grass to grow on the dirt... dumb doors blocking grass) and I have to somehow connect it to my underwater mine I dug up in a nearby lake.

This is for people playing Minecraft, (and if you haven't played it, go buy it. NOW.)
What is your current project in Minecraft? what are you currently working to achieve?

Me, I have decided to conquer the Nether, and my first step in doing this is to build a giant fortress inside the Nether (partly as my way of making a big middle finger to the nether as a whole). I've already got the the walls built (20block tall walls from Sea(lava)Level up, and now i am currently hollowing out all of the netherrack inside of the fortress (luckily, the ghasts have been really helpful in helping with this demolition). and once i get all that netherrack removed, i think i will build a large castle inside of my walls
What you should do is recreate the Pandemonium Fortress from Diablo 2.

I'd do it myself, buuuuuut I don't own the game and don't have any spare cash right now (student loans will do that).

If I did have it, I'd find the nearest mountain and build a giant lava-powered lighthouse over a borehole straight down to bedrock. Given a lot of glass, I could have a lava fall as a light source all the way down.

First: build a computer so I can play Minecraft (I think my laptop is too screwed up to play it).
Second: Buy Minecraft.
Third: Build a Lighthouse like the one in Alan Wake.

I decided to just build myself a nice little self sustaining fort out of wood, with trees planted outside my door, wheat growing on the roof, and reeds growing by a man made swimming pool outside, and then I hollowed out a chunk of the mountain behind it and built a 7x7x5 (WxDxH) obsidian vault.

Now I have 30 buckets, lots of book cases, and far too much redstone
