I wanted to be a writer, work in games or be a doctor.

I did actually work in game development for a while until life threw me a very unexpected curve ball, I'm still working on the writer part and I'm doing midwifery instead medicine. So I guess I kind of ended up in all the fields I wanted to end up in, just not so much in the manner I was expecting.

I wanted to be a super hero (Primary School), turns out X-Men were all fake.

I wanted to be a cop. (Turns out it wasn't really what an 'educated' people should aim to be, or so I have been told "Stay in school you lazy bum).

I wanted to be a soldier. (Found out my country(Mauritius) didn't really have an army), and had a change of mind after playing through Operation Flashpoint, watching Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Platoon, which depicted the army in completely different colors than I initially thought it was)

I wanted to be a game developer. (Wasn't enthusiastic about learning Programming, in fact getting A through my classes weren't enough to keep me focused, and immediately switched to anIT and Networking course)).

Now, I want to become a Network Specialist. Enjoying the classes so far, but still lack the ambition and driving force.

I hold on to the dream that I'll be like Harper Lee and publish one book, and then never have to work for the rest of my life.

Hah.

I've wanted to be a zookeeper for as long as I can remember and I'm currently going to college to make that happen and have worked at zoos in the past.

Im 16 and my dream job would be either a lawyer, a stand up comedian or my shameful little secret, owning and running a hotel. Id like to be a lawyer because Im good at public speaking and they make alot of money. Id like to be a comedian because Im misunthropic and I would love a job in which I dont have to interact with people and to be competely honest I dont know why I would want to own a hotel. Just think It would be fun :)

I'm currently studying mechanical engineering, as a kid I never really had any direction outside of the general "I hate school and therefore do not want to be a teacher" train of thought.

I really need to decide what to do with my life. I have all these things I could do but i never follow through on anything. I need to dedicate myself to something.

Since I was 12 years old(now I'm 17) I wanted to be a professional drifter in Formula D. I'm still trying but its really hard to be a girl in something that is totally dominated by men. But right now I'm going to school to be a A.I. Programmer for video games. I am very good when it comes to programming and like it a lot but I still want my first dream to come true.
I wanted to be a games programmer from when I was in primary school. I went a bit off the rails when I left home, and ended up as a bartender. A position which I still sort of hold; I'm a bar manager at one of the most successful pubs in the UK, and when things are going well, I enjoy my job. But I really can't do it for much longer without going crazy, so I enrolled in University to study programming.

It's really hard work doing a 45 hour week behind a bar, and a full-time degree at the same time, but the two kind of balance each other out. My job is quite physical, with a lot of running about and moving barrels, and by the time I'm finished a shift, I'm ready to spend some time just sitting and typing; and vice-versa.

Anyway, I'm also planning on becoming an A.I. programmer, in fact I should be doing an A.I. assignment instead of wandering these forums, so your safety is my first choice. I really wish you luck with your dream though, I had to google Formula D, but it looks pretty intense. And if the sexism on their homepage is enough to go by, then I can understand what you're up against.

I wish I had a dream career...

Right now I'm hoping to do something with computers or some science related thing, something that would work off my Asianness, my friends would say. ;)

I do want good pay and some free time so I can right some stories in my spare time and maybe have them published. Standing on writing stories alone would be too risky.

Not a Doctor though, too much studying and have someone's life in your hands....just no...

Fantasy wise, I would like to be some kind of professional race car driver or astronaut.

Dream:
Armed Forces.

I Got:
Armed Forces.
Not as much fun as it's made out to be. :(
Still pretty awesome though, in the grand scheme of things.

I wanted to be three things when i left school.

A chef, which i never got an apprenticeship for. I worked in the industry for 10 years though. Mostly in the kitchen, then later front of house.

A security officer: Did for three years. Gave it in after my third concussion in a month.

And i wanted to join the army, but they said my asthma was to much a hinderance even though i have never had an attack.

At the moment i am 4 years into working as a Private Apartment Concierge.

Eventually i want to open my own restaraunt / cafe.

Seeing as my plan of winning the lottery and retering at the ripe age of 18 fell through, I went to school for computer science as I love it.

I really want to be an astronaut-fireman (imagine putting out fires FROM SPACE!) But since that job doesn't exist (yet) I'm pursuing a career as game designer/developer.

As a kid, I wanted to be a paleontologist or an astronaut.
Today, I'm studying to become a MD.
I blame the bloody video games.

The funny thing is, I recently learned my youngest cousin wants to become a paleontologist-astronaut with a bit or archeology and geology mixed in (basically everything that has something to do with dirt), so maybe it's a family thing? Or it's the complex counterpoint between Space and Earth, hm. My cousin's a genius.
