A game where you lead a band of pirates in colonial-era Europe. You can attack various ports, hire crew members and fight alongside them. You could also control trade routes and gain influence in certain areas, slowly taking control of the entire map. Within reason though, the military navies should be able to wreck your shit 99 times out of 100.

For bonus points, it should have multiplayer, where each person has their own pirate band, and the map includes Asia and the Americas.
You seem to want this game; http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL27573102D76133B6&feature=plcp
this LPer play HOURS of it, watch the first ten episodes to get the general idea.

I'm actually creating one of my dream games (I have quite a few), an open survival game where you're a untrained civvie trying to escape from captivity on a bright, peaceful looking island. You're trying to escape from humans. Not zombies. Not monsters. None of that stuff, I feel humans are plenty evil enough to be scary. Also, I'm trying to make a very beautiful location feel scary and terrifying, which is no easy feat.

Guns kill with a round or two, vehicles handle pretty realistically, and there are lots of endings (at least 9 so far), and depending on the route you take, and how long you wait, your actions WILL affect your chance of escape and survival. You need to eat/drink/sleep to survive, and vehicles take (an admittedly unrealistic) amount of gasoline to run.

So, to try to fit it into one genre is hard, I'd say survival/open world/horror.

First person space warfare.
There is actually a FPS set in space, but can't remember the name.
Maybe you're referring to Shattered Horizon [http://store.steampowered.com/app/18110/]?

OT: A first-person bullet hell shooter. I just HAVE to experience something like that in my lifetime!

Red Dead Redemption crossed with Mount&Blade crossed with Crusader Kings 2, basically.

Free roam Low Fantasy Action mixed with medieval politics and intrigue.

And character customisation. Has to have character customisation, a world like Skyrim's that feels alive, but less... rigid and awkward than TES. Visceral but realistic combat, what armour you wear and what weapon you wield should make a great difference to what is effective against you/what you're effective against. Free-roam multiplayer, take your character online and lark about in the expansive medieval world with your friends. Ingame factions and roleplaying opportunities, with specific colours or heraldries.

It needs the banalities you find in Rockstar Games as well. Being able to do normal things makes the extraordinary things you do all that better by comparison.

Life sim (like Animal Crossing) / fantasy adventure, with a whole world you can explore. Battling, farming, cooking, dating, being a mailman, even just gardening would all be valid pursuits. You could even customize your very own town to an extent that I doubt even the upcoming Animal Crossing will allow. There would be an online multiplayer feature where you could go to your friend's parallel world; you can help him/her out, bring lots of souvenirs back to your world, pretty standard stuff.

Yes, the "Rune Factory" series has gotten amazingly close to making my dream game. But I think that games like Rune Factory could practically be a whole genre! My dream game would have less emphasis on a single linear story, but would feature plenty of subplots and optional quests. You can be a hero, a fearsome villain and tyrant (only of your town though, sorry), or just a peaceful chef. Obviously, a lot of player choice is important, and should be able to change the world in some noticeable ways. It's the ultimate sandbox game, and my dream game!

...that, or a Pokemon game that includes a Chao Garden sort of place, where you can just hang out and play with your Pokemon. Really, either one would make me a very happy panda.

a skyrim style western RPG set in terry pratchet's discworld. if you've read the books the game practically makes itself, although there would be some balancing issues of magic being painfully underpowered.

An RPG in the style of old school JRPGs, but instead of "just another JRPG", I would make it "the ultimate JRPG".

I'm talking about combining the best mechanics of every turn-based and semi-turn-based RPG ever:
1) The basic "Attack" concept from the Legaia series combined with that of Shadow Hearts.
2) The combo system of the Shadow Hearts games combined with that of Chrono Trigger.
3) The job system of FF III/V/Tactics/X-2 combined with the materia system of FF VII and the sphere grid from FF X.
4) The ability to recruit demons (Shin Megami Tensei), linking them to your stats (GF-mechnic from FF VIII combined with the Persona system) and using them in combat (Legend of Legaia meets Persona meets Golden Sun's djinns meets Shadow Heart's fusions).
5) The equipment/modification system of FF IX combined with Resonance of Fate combined with Magna Carta.

Mix that all up with a world crossing time, space and alternate dimensions - basically Chrono Trigger meets Chrono Cross meets Star Ocean.

And instead of an Active Time Battle System or a Conditional Turn Based system, I would opt for the CATTBASS (Conditional Altered Time Turn Based Action Selection System).

*sigh* What a game that would be...

A game that plops you, a random civilian without any kind of training, into the zombie apocalypse. The focus, however, would be on survival rather than combat. The idea would be to make every single encounter with a zombie (especially multiple zombies) something that could potentially be very costly. Infection would definitely have to be possible; in my game the PC would not be the "only one who can perform fetch quest X, Y and Z because you're immune". Hunger and thirst would play a major role, so scavenging would be a primary focus. I would prefer it if access to ammunition were very limited, even late game, leaving the player character to rummage through hardware stores and garages to find a means of personal defense. Noise would also have to be treated somewhat realistically. Discharging a firearm would have to attract zombies so shooting near your "safehouse" or wherever you're bunking at the time would be ill advised.
...

I could go all day with this; but, the short of it is, I crave a game set in the zombie apocalypse but with a focus on survival rather than combat. I would want a game that has strong characterization, where you build a sense of fraternity with the other survivors you meet. And above all, I want the game to be about scavenging and surviving after society crumbles. Gathering food, gathering water, maintaining body heat, scavenging for medical supplies, etc.
THEN I HAVE THE GAME FOR YOU!

Best £5 I ever spent, it's exactly what you want, and I MEAN EXACTLY! every point you said there this game has. (except the maintaining body heat thing)

I'd like to see a co-op action RPG with a streamlined mission/shop system a la Devil May Cry, where you can select missions and shop/upgrade your character via menus, as opposed to having to run across fields and towns and sit through loadscreens just so you can take 20 minutes to repair your weapons/heal/sell your useless items/talk to quest givers/whatever other chores RPG's usually have you do in between dungeon crawls.

So basically, Devil May Cry + Reckoning + Shadow Over Mystara

- Instead of buying/randomly finding loot, you have every type of weapon/armor/accessory available to you early on, and you choose between different kinds of upgrades (ie: choosing between a flaming sword upgrade that boosts attack power, or a lightning sword upgrade that boosts attack power to a lesser extent, but also boosts attack speed)

- Weapon types and Special Moves are given to you for each mission you complete, and you have all item types/special moves before you're halfway through the game. (I hated how in Reckoning, by the time you could level up the Attack Speed boost, you were nearing the end of the game)

- Stats such as speed, health, energy, and power are customizable so that a Mage for example, can be fast and take a lot of damage, at the cost of not being able to use special moves as often and not doing enough damage, or a Warrior can be an all around fighter, a glass cannon, or a Mighty Glacier.

- You can grab enemies if you use a one-handed weapon and no shield, or bare fists.

3) Street Fighter type characters in a Turtles in Time side scrolling beat-em up.
The closest thing to that which I can think of is Dungeon Fighter Online. It's a free to play Korean beat-em-up with heavy MMO elements (cooldowns for item use and special moves, random loot, random % chance to hit, etc.) One of the playable characters (the Fighter) has a ridiculously Street Fighter inspired movelist, complete with a hurricane Kick, a hadoken style fireball, a suplex, and a flaming dragon punch.

the Mass effect series come pretty close, hence why I am a fan

I dint think being a fangirl/fanboy is about thinking the object of your obsession is the "BEST X EVAR! PERFECT!" its more about it being somthing that really strikes a chord with you, regardless of its flaws

Today?

A fantasy-strategy game in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics, but with simultaneous turns. Moves and attacks are ordered then performed at once, though definitely include a 'lock on' command that will make melee attackers always move towards their target's position even if they change it.

One new class to make use of this system called Seer would be able to 'focus' on an enemy unit and know ahead of time what they're going to do. Besides that just have really good balancing of the classes' abilities, with several movement-impairing abilities to make things harder to predict.

I really liked the framework/setting of a Bernard Cornwell series I read recently, and it could easily be adapted into an FFT style Dark Ages story minus some of the M-rated bits and the names changed. Basically, a child prince is chased from his kingdom by invaders and over the course of his life works to build a mighty army and reclaim his birthright. In the course of doing this he becomes a legendary warlord, who many in the history books would consider just as ruthless as the invaders he fights against.

Furthering the theme, Final Fantasy-style elemental magic is either rare or all trickery. Instead have battle hymns capable of raising or lowering the stats of those who hear them (one common theme in all of Cornwell's Dark Ages books is how incredibly superstitious most warriors are- the army with the better/louder battle song can usually win unless badly outmatched, and an army's morale can be terribly soured by a Druid's curses).

A stealth game that lets you actively deal with your problems and not have to wait for guard patrols. Oh, and with the option to kill everything without giving too many shits.

It would probably be a massive RPG with insane levels of character interaction and probably tactical turn based combat which never ended. The game would continually create new content on its own, forever. Yup, unrealistic, but that is what I want!

I've said it before in threads of a similar nature, and I'll say it again; my dream game would essentially be a version of Fallout: New Vegas that isn't a buggy, nigh unplayable mess. Almost everything about the writing and design of the game is just fantastic, and it would probably be my favourite game ever if it wasn't so technically broken.

Personally, I'd love too see a Virtual reality MMO. Possibly anime visuals, with the first person perspective. As far as atmosphere.... I dunno. You could always go the apocalyptic route, or more traditional fantasy setting. Being part of the game by being in it, is the future I think.
