I've been perusing the forums, and I realized with all the discussion about games, there has got to be radical differences in everyone's 'first time.'
So the question is, what is earliest gaming experience you vividly remember? For example, my father played pong, but he remembers more about the first episode of doom then the ole' brick and paddle. He cites that as the catalyst that led him into gaming.

Myself, it was Jeff Vogel's Exile 3, and the year it took me to beat that game. I still remember the unique counters for special monsters.

Out of curiosity, why are you so curious about the differences in people's first games?

Mine was Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis.

Sega Megadrive when I was around 4 years old. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Cannon Fodder, Streets of Rage and Golden Axe.

So very epic.

My 7th birthday, I got my 1st NES with Super Mario Bros./Duckhunt. That kept me going until Christmas of that year, when I got my 1st gameboy with Tetris AND Metroid 2.

My mother has regretted those gifts ever since, cuz I was hooked.

I was watching my dad play Duke Nukem and Doom, while getting frustrated at that guy who wouldn't let me leave Viridian City.

To get a sense, even a vauge one, about the type of people in this forums. I'm working on a couple articles I'd like to submit, but it is good to know what kind of gamers will be reading them.

My very first game I played and got me hooked was Spyro the Dragon. That purple firebreather has changed my life.

Although, now I'm playing very different genres.

Those nightmarish education games.
Due to my weirdness, I would turn up the volume then, due to my Aspergers get scared and run away. Also happened whenever I turned my pc on at the startup sound (fully booted).

Then when i was out of hospital (and falling in love with sonic in the hospital, I was given sonic CD as a welcome home thing (I also crying as I did not want to wear the gown because i thought it looked like a dress, although, I was only six). I played Sonic CD for AAAAGGGESSS

Then one day, when I was either still 7 or 8, I saw my dad playing Quake 3, so I wanted a go. I always loved the exploding gibs, and would even shoot corpses of Unreal Tournament to see the bloody gibs, then shoot the gibs to make them vanish. At 9 I had Quake 3, team arena and had finished Quake 3 about twice or thrice over. I had also beat Xan, I had alot of games like Oni, Soldier of Fortune, and then at 11 I actually stopped acting as if every game was good and at 13 started reading reviews, instead of being a blind sheep.

Chip's Challenge (Old windows?) Playing it again now, it seems harder than before o0.
Bummer.

That game has a special place in my heart. I beat when staying over at a relatives house, since I couldn't go to sleep.

It was either some game on Commodore 64 or Super Mario 64 or Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire on Nintendo 64 while on a cruise in the ship's game-whatever-room.

Battleship on a really old Apple computer my dad had. First console game was either Robotech on the Gamecube or Morrowind on the Xbox.

Christmas '91, Super Nintendo, Super Mario World.

To this day I still remember every level, every secret, every edge of that game. I played that thing until my fingers bled.
