I remember my mum having to help me get past a particularly 'difficult' level on Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Mega Drive.
I also remember playing some mario game on the SNES, in the very final years of its popularity, in a crèche in a shopping mall!!

My earliest gaming memory was probably Rosco the fireman for the PlayStation or the original crash bandicoot for the PlayStation.

Ski Free, Chip's Challenge, Age of Empires (back then, I thought it was Vampires), Riven, and Bubble Bobble. I don't remember any specifics, other than I figured out how to outrun the yeti on Ski Free with the "F" key.
Flashbacks, I've actually been wondering about that skiing game, I could never remember the name of the game. Ski Free *sigh* I usually did quite well until I was eaten by the yeti....Every single time.
Chips challenge is another really old one, I remember playing it on my granny's computer :)
AOE was the first game I actually Bought, I was so proud of it. I distinctly remember getting in trouble and having to stay in my room, but it was O.k because i had my mum's laptop in there to play it on :D

Edit: I also remember a PS1 game demo which i played a ton, I can't remember what it was called but I remember the main character was a dude with pink hair who fought pig-thing and stuff... If anyone remembers the name of this please tell me.

my mate had it... it was quite difficult for young thumbs, he also had james bond for the gameboy too.

My memories are Alex the Kidd on the Sega mastersystem, it was built in and was a awsome, also round about the same time my mate had the megadrive and had an NHL game that we would always play and just try to get to start fights, as being scottish had no idea how to play hockey properly.. also vaguely remember my uncle haveing mortal kombat for his pc...
and a platformer involving ducks.. think it was quack attack, although not to sure whish I could remember its name.

Also fondest memory was when I got a Playstation for christmas, I was always a console generation behind my friends, so when I opend the wrapping I acctually almost fainted lol

My Dad had just got a new computer and it had Windows 95 on it. As you may or may not know, the OS disc comes with "Hover! [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hover!]" on it.

That was my first game. Me and my brothers played it quite a lot before we got given a SNES by some friends who didn't want theirs anymore, then we never played it again.

Nostalgia ftw!
