Alright I realize we've had a thread about the best Pokemon setup, but I want to hear what other people end up with at this point. This can apply to any game, I'm using Soulsilver, as the games after gen II sucked IMO. But anyway here's what I'll be using:

Rapidash
Espeon
Sandslash
Nidoking
Golduck
Graveler

All 48-50.

So, what about everyone else?

A funny trend I found. If I take my starter (it actually doesn't matter which one) and use it exclusively, it will be ridiculously overpowered by the end and, with a balanced range of moves, can annihilate the elite four single-handedly. The others are just there to look pretty.

I played through the original Red version recently. I'll give you that 6.

Charizard
Vaporean
Mew
Articuno
Zapdos
Moltres

They were all somewhere in the 40's. I gotta say, the original Elite 4 was an amazing push over. I defeated them all on a suicide run...

Thats my plan, im not very good at pokemon, with that way you can beat everyone with that one pokemon. Its also good to have atleast one that doesnt suck though too.

Alternatively, with judicious use of TMs, you can make a strangely balanced team out of just Gyarados.

Funny how I evenly train my pokemon but on my first ever playthrough back in red version I needed cut and my cousin told me my Squirtle could learn it (he was wrong but he figured since the other two could why couldn't Squirtle we were both new to this) but the problem was I didn't have the HM because I was too stupid to find the SS Anne and I trained outside vermilion city for days and got like a level 40 Blastoise before I just gave up and found the SS anne, he was so powerful I just blew through the game with Blastoise.

I had used

Pinsir
Porygon Z
Slowbro
Magmortar
Weezing
Magnezone

All around 70. But considering this was on the harder Platinum Enhanced romhack, I barely finished alive. I had to use a lot of revives.

My best Pokemon setup IS my Elite four Six. I'll copy paste from the other thread:

Infernape - Fire/Fighting
Flygon - Ground/Dragon
Magnezone - Electric/Steel
Gengar - Ghost/Poison
Walrien - Water/Ice
Tyranitar - Rock/Dark

All Dual types for maximum versatility, all third level evolutions extra stat points, and I think they look awesome to boot.

This was my team from Blue:

Venausaur
Pidgeot
Gyrados
Alakazam
Raichu
Articuno

I found that I always had to have Gyrados and Alakazam on my team - something about those two that always appealed to me. The other ones would would change, but never those two.

Correct me if I'm wrong but... didn't you have to use a glitch to catch Mew?

On that note, when it comes to Pokemon... I tried to catch as few as possible and pretty much did the 'starter pokemon exclusively' and ended up with this

I'm currently playing Diamond, and right now, just before Eterna Forest, my party consists of just five Pokemon:

- Starly
- Shinx
- Geodude
- Monferno
- Magikarp

Hopefully they'll all be fully evolved by the time I reach the Elite Four, and with any luck I'll have a Psychic type too by then (though I'm also on the lookout for Grass-types).

I only played red but in that I opted for

charizard
articuno
Zapdos
Gyrados
Kadabra (didn't trade but still)
graveler

after that mewtwo took either kadabra or gravelers spot but at that point it didn't really matter in that game.

Yup yup. I decided early on that I wanted an awesome, legendary team and I simply would not stand for not having a mew on my team.

I did the glitch early, right when I got to the second Gym. I made sure to do everything correctly and was graced with a level 6 Mew. Truly, legendary pokemon are so worthless late in the game. I prefer getting a low leveled one early on who I can train and better throughout the course of the game.

Usually have my starter and everything else for the use of HM's.

At one point I have to get a Cubone, not a Marrowhack a Cubone. Cubone has been the one constant in my pokeman journey since red and blue.

So many people stacking legendaries...I hate, using them, they kinda cheaper the experience for me, dragon pokemon tend to as well, due to being only week against themselves, and having high attack+truck moves.

I'm going to level out my party with honchcrow in place of graveler and raichu in place of nidoking.

And I just realiZed I have one gold/silver pokemon sigh. Why did the pokemon themselves become stupider and stupider looking every generation and make me not want them?

I actually find Pokemon much *easier* if you get to the Elite Four with your starter at like level 65 and everything else at 30 then it is if I have all my Pokemon around 40. However, I totally feel bad for the underlevelled Pokemon I never use.

I forget my Blue/Crystal run throughs, but SoulSilver...

Typhlosion
Golem
Crobat
Red Gyrados
Gyrados
Gengar

I always have a Gyarados in every game, but just catching the red one and using that always seems kind of cheap. Plus it means I don't have to give Waterfall/Whirlpool/Surf all to one Pokemon. Incidentally the only reason I have Golem/Gengar is because I just got a DSXL which meant I could abuse having an original DS and just trade amongst myself.

Couldn't for the life of me remember my original teams from Blue, Yellow and Gold, but with HG I had:

Typhlosion
Meganium
Feraligatr
Mew
Ho-oh
Raikou

Mmmyes I used an Action Replay to get Mew. Sue me.

EDIT: Actually just thinking about it now I do remember for my original Gold Elite Four, the very first time I used Tylophsion as a massive beast and just owned everything in sight.
