If last year's London riots are anything to go by, my escape plan would involve multiple ways of putting out fires.

It wasn't nice. :(

My current bug out plan is to trek the 50 miles or so that it takes to get to the Isle of Wight, and survive on the land there. Plan 2 is to get a bike and cycle to my family, but that'd take quite a long time...
How exactly do you 'trek' to the isle of wight? Isn't it seperated from britain by sea?
OT: I'd probably fail to plan properly, and just be attempting to survive, day to day.

I'd steal a kayak or a rowing boat, the sea is generally quite calm and it's only a couple of miles. Or maybe just buy a ferry ticket, depending on how broken down society is.

Well, I have this:

Battle Plan - the french edition!

But seriously? I would go to a high building, find a few friends and go on the search for supplies. With the help of pickaxe.
Damn you ninja with your sneaky antics

Well I live in Britain so finding a decent weapon would be tough, and large gangs of youths with dogs are a thing here, so essentially I'd be playing the post-apocalypse on ultra-hard mode.

On the other hand, I live opposite a hospital and about fifteen minutes away from the town centre; so provided I had enough of a head start, I could probably get a healthy stock of supplies.

I'd escape through the back, and blend in with the rioting crowd, so that when we break into my house, I can try to "steal" the things that are most valuable to me, such as my television or game consoles. If I don't manage to, well at least I got out of there alive. Once I've done so, I'd retreat to my secret hideout outside of town to put away all my stash and then join a traveling train band, the types you usually see in films and cartoons, where we all enjoy our new, easy going, non-materialistic life, which has finally gained relevance thanks to the collapse of civilization, while occasionally going back to my hideout to game on my consoles.

You don't have to outrun them. You've just got to be faster than the guy next to you.

Seriously though, I'd be part of the rioting mob when the system fails us and it's time to revolt.

The logical answer is learn to hunt and go live in the wilderness. Mind you that is assuming you want to escape. I think I would use my skills as a designer to help promote the best candidate to bring us to a new age of enlightenment.

Get the wood axe or the big hammer, raid the supermarkets down the street from where i live, barricade the front windows, brain anyone who attempts entry without so much as a word that isnt "brains".

No wait, thats zombies. Its close enough.

stay in my room and listen to Alice in Chains, while playing Bastion. The internet still works right? Failing that head off to Uni where the Internet is 400gbps+

Well, I have a group of friends, a few weapons, dogs, fairly defensible land, vehicles, and a mutual love and capability of using pyrotechnics with my pal. Escape? No, raze the place instead. Our assailants be the ones escaping. You learn how to scare people easy when you work with film.

I take it this thread assumes one lives in a city?

...because I wouldn't need to escape, I'd just need to fortify my property, diversify my livestock and crops. Zombies are one thing, in the long term I'd need a lot more hardware for that. But if the problem is thinking human beings who are looting, there's no way I'd want to be in the middle of that. Time to bunker down.

If I'm not already out of town I'm staying put because roads will now be like an open invitation to be attacked due to the fact that roads will be clogged with stopped cars. I'll just bunker down and prepare to defend. Hopefully looters will be too distracted with all the superstores I live near to bother with most of the houses in my neighborhood.

Loot supermarkets for water, tins and other long-lasting food, loot some propane, and stick it out where I live now. It's built like a fortress, I just need to board up and block up both entrances and I'm good.

Ok...I guess that wouldn't work due to being Australia. :(
You're Australia? O_O

OT: Stay right here. I'm in the far suburbs. There's a bit of industry around here, but half the city doesn't even know there are people out here. The rioting 'round here would be minimal.

I am a Texan.

I own a 9mm and a 12 gauge shotgun and have plenty of ammo and am a damned good shot. I also keep my cabinets well stocked with canned food.

Mobs? Not a problem. Kill the leaders on the front (the followers will scatter and search for easier prey) then claim honest self-defense if/when the authorities re-establish law and order. Texan courts and juries will rule in my favor without a doubt.

On top of which buck shot can result in multiple casualties. It will be like duck hunting (which I have done). I won't even need to use up much ammo.

Don't Mess With Texas!

Though I'm not one of those prepping folks I am prepared for such an event. Me and my friend are all in agreement that if something big and bad goes down we all gather at one of our places, stock up, and then head out to a predetermined location.

Thankfully, me, my folks, and my friends are all armed. Food will not be a problem along with safety.
