so, what does your family think of video games?

believe it or not, my family seems to be more gamer-like than most.

my Dad used to classic Namco games back in the day. and is recently getting into playing Evony. He's even watched me play Fallout 3 a couple of times, the only thing he really commented on however was the intense amounts of gore he saw in it, he found how the Raider's heads go boom whenever I put bullets into them was disturbing to him.

my Filipino step-mom has played quite afew casual games on the P.C

my biological ex-mom enjoys Centipete, the arcade Atari game. and once said she also plays Super Mario Bros. 3.

I have 2 sisters, both my younger. my 15-year-old sis mainly likes Harvest Moon and The Sims. I have a 3-year-old half-sis, but I don't know what she'd like in a video game.

but my family's relationship with games started becoming more noticeable ever since I got an Xbox 360.

first, the living room's DVD player got broken and thrown away, so my dad and step-mom ever not and then beg me to let them barrow my 360 so they can watch the ocassional DVD rental they bring ever once in a while. I taught them how to use the 360 controller as the remote.

second, my dad, step-mom, and my sisters started playing Sega Superstar Tennis, a game that came free with the 360, I never really liked that game, so I hardly play it myself. my step-mom pointed out the Space Channel 5 music sounded simirlar to the music played in the Filipino TV show called 'Wow-wow-we', I think.

third, my 15-year-old sister and my dad played the Xbox arcade version of Pac-Man, they got me to step in, I survived the mazes longer than they did.

fourth, I later got Soul Calibur IV. my step-mom, dad, and my sisters started playing it for quite a while. my dad and step-mom even made their own custom characters. my dad favored Nightmare's fighting style with his character while my step-mom favored Taki's.

fifth, and fianlly, my dad expressed interest in getting a Wii for the living room. I told my step-mom about the 360 game called 'Lips', being a big fan of Karaoke, my info got her attention.

but enough about my family and their relations with video games, what are yourse?

My parents like Mario Kart 64, my very first game. They haven't really played ANY of them since. I tried to introduce my mom to CoD2, but she couldn't figure out the looking/moving controls (I remember those being hard when I first played a playstation game, I always used the gamepad instead.).

My dad got into gaming back in the days when the arcade was king and introduced me to the hobby when I was born.
Hell, I'll bet he's playing WoW right this very moment.

my brother and I are both as hardcore gamers as we can find time for, and yet we still suck pretty badly in comparison to the average bear (i.e. lvl 9's are still a bit scary in SSBMelee or Brawl, haven't beaten the original Star Fox even though many many tries, usually considered cannon fodder in FPSs of all kinds). mother has tried valiantly to join in, playing castlevania: symphony of the night, SSBMelee, gauntlet (Gamecube console version), and a few others. my main games nowadays are Metroids ('cube only), 4th gen Pokemon, and the occasional L4D run to keep my reflexes sharper.

My family is cool with video games. My mom uses my Wii occasionally, but my dad really got me into gaming with an N64, Mario Kart 64, and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Frikin' awesome. However, I'm really the only one who's stuck with it. My brother still plays some games, but not very often from what I can tell.

Fairly over the place. My parents disapprove somewhat, though they're better than they were. My aunt on my dad's side gets annoying as hell with the idea that me and my brothers play non-stop. My dad seeded that idea and she just won't shut up or learn. My brothers and most of my cousins (both sides) are all gamers to some degree.

I'm over complicating and detailing everything. Basically, you play if you're in my generation and you don't and/or look down on it to some degree if you're from last generation.

I'm the only one who is good at games but my brother does play occasionally but my parents don't at all, mainly because they grew up on a farm, so you can't really blame them.

Me and my older brothers play, my parents don't watch. It all works out for the best.

My mum doesn't know anything about video games. They are a completley alien to her.

My dad on the other hand, has slowly been coming over to the dark side/good guys (depends on your point of view) recently. It started with casual gaming and the Wii, then he fell in love with Mario Kart and Guitar Hero. Everytime were in an game store or somewhere like that, he will make a point of showing me Beatle's Rockband.

My sister likes gaming and has started playing more games than me. But that's casual games, so I don't consider her a threat...yet...

My house usually has a 'Wii" night on saturday or sunday and we play SSBB, wii play or some other game (maybe the new SMB when it comes out). My dad has his own Wii system with nothing but classic NES and SNES games on it, my mom and sister both are in love with the Wii Fit and Wii Fit+ mini-games right now.

So if it wasn't for me our house would be 100% Nintendo.

My Mother is dead set against gaming and computers in general. Don't ask me why, I think it's because she has a bit of technophobia and is hopeless with computers.

My Dad kind of follows suit but I think he's more susceptible. I my youth when we had an Amstrad PC and I would have been probably four years old I remember him playing "Paganitzu" and he was the reigning champion of "Paratrooper" but since we got rid of that Amstrad, (years and years and years ago,) he hasn't cared for gaming. I remember a few years ago he watched me play some F.E.A.R and was gleefull at me destroying some Replica dudes with the shotgun, (blowing them to pieces,) so much so that when I switched to an Assault Rifle he demanded I switch back to the Shotgun. He should probably try Left 4 Dead 2.

My Sister doesn't really care for games but she's played console games a couple of times - Halo mostly. She just couldn't get her head around having no periferal vision, her brain's not wired for first person gaming. She likes Guitar Hero and Singstar and those social kind of casual games and was keen for Spore after playing around with the creature creator a bit but she's just not interested in games which is fine.

My father was an avid Doom player, owned an original Pong machine, and let me play Doom when I was only 5. My mom doesn't care too much for them, even after the Wii.

I'm pretty much the only dedicated gamer in my family now, though I have my older brother to thank for it. I grew up watching him play his Gameboy, and when I got a little older we'd play Sierra adventure games together. My mom was never really into it, though. Some of my best early gaming memories involve getting a new computer game for Christmas, then gathering around the computer with my dad and my brother to play it.

Computer games were a major hobby of mine all throughout school, and my parents spent a lot of time and effort trying to get me to stop playing. ;) Now they're cool with it; my mom is still very much not a gamer, but she likes to send me articles and stuff about games or the gaming industry. My dad dabbles occasionally; sometimes when I go to visit, I'll show him a DS game I think he'd like, usually a puzzle game like Trauma Center or Professor Layton. He helped me get through some of the really frustrating puzzles in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. ;D

My brother is more into iPhone games these days, but he'll sometimes fiddle with my PS2 if it's within reach. My dad keeps talking about wanting to get a Wii, and my mom recently e-mailed me to tell me she played Rock Band for the first time. There's hope for them yet! :D

My brother: "What's the premise of this game?"
Me: "Violence!"

My mother is vehemently opposed to violent games, but usually with a little persuasion I'm able to get her acceptance. It's all really because of what she sees on Fox News and other people who scream and cry about video games.

My dad introduced me to all of this, but I myself kept going with it. He hardly plays any games nowadays. In fact, when I persuaded him to play a song in Rock Band, he started playing and flunking out on purpose just to get out of it.

God damn, I hate my parents.

My dad used to play Mario Bros. on the NES.
My mom used to play Majong on the computer.
My sister thinks the most hardcore video game in the world is Mystery Case Files.

My dad got me into gaming. He much prefers older styled platforming collecting type games though which are in incredibly low supply nowadays.

I'm the only real hardcore gamer in the family. I think my mom played a few Game Boy games abck in the day, and my sister plays a lot of Tetris and Pokemon, but they don't really stick with it like I do.
