I can't think of any that I played that have provided more than nostalgia. Every single one of them when I went back to play them I felt very, very, frustrated.
I can see where your coming from the older rpgs do tend to have a rather step difficulty and learning curves
It's not even that though, because I was quite experienced with them, so it's like going back to riding a bike, but this bike has octagonal wheels and a wooden pole with splinters instead of a seat.
Exile just didn't have a story anymore, it was an interesting sandbox, but there was nothing new to discover. Baldur's Gate really fell appart if you didn't follow the plot. I got killed so many times going to places on the map that they expected you to go to later, so they had encounters for a higher level party. It felt like being railroaded by a dick GM, and that's interestingly what tabletop RPGs were like then too, and the horrible advice in the 2e DMG. I dislike playing BG for the same reason I don't like playing AD&D anymore, and when I do play AD&D it's heavily tweaked so that it looks like a different game.
