Inga Gränser by Senap. Swedish trallpunkband, and my current favorite one. That album in particular is amazing from start to finish.

For those intrested;
Catchiest song on the album, so I figured it was best to go with that one.

For this thread I'll go for The Cat Empire's Two Shoes album.

Such a fantastically happy, uplifting and summer-y band. Here's two examples of that album:

They mix a crapton of genres, add a ton of relaxedness and just let it fly. All of their albums sound different but all equally brilliant.

Ok, He may not be all that unknown, but if you don't know who Voltaire is you are missing out.
(No not it isn't the french guy i'm talking about)

Just look at him :-D
Not only have have they released the awesomely named album

"Riding a Black Unicorn Down the Side of an Erupting Volcano While Drinking from a Chalice Filled with the Laughter of Small Children"

But "To the bottom of the sea" some of the best songs ever (in my opinion)

Porcupine Tree are fucking amazing. I'm lucky enough to have a large number of friends who love them. No lonely concerts for me!

My personal pick would be Of Mind and Fantasy by dark power metal band Arch Nemesis.

So... good...

Come on guys, this band needs more love. All three albums are utterly amazing pieces of Avant-Garde Metal.

Very silly metal that doesn't take itself at all seriously.
Just a man, his keyboards, and some awesome techno.

Pandora Celtica - Out of the Box [http://www.amazon.com/Out-of-the-Box/dp/B004MFNCEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347146454&sr=8-1&keywords=Pandora+Celtica]

Most of my music isn't exactly unknown. Even the ones that most here wouldn't know are because the bands were popular too long ago for the general age group here to remember them. But PC is a newer band, and one I have had the pleasure to see live at DragonCon for the last three years. Wonderful people I am happy to support whenever the opportunity arises. If you enjoy a capella with a somewhat dark twist, give them a try.

Maybe not completely unheard of. But I'm sure most people would not have heard of Agalloch. And of their albums my favorite would be...

Great album.
YES.

Of mine, one of my favorites has to be Ocean Machine: Biomech by Devin Townsend.
Another really lesser known avant-garde metal band that blows me away every time is Diablo Swing Orchestra, and their Sing-Along Songs For the Damned and Delirious album:
And for something really unique and glorious, Ulver's Blood Inside for good measure.

YES! Dude I fucking love this album. Been really getting into the band recently and exploring their other work, but for me that one is their ultimate masterpiece. Just dripping in atmosphere.

As for my choice...I'll list a few.

Devin Townsend- Ocean Machine Biomech

Sure, he's a well-known figure in the metal community, but this album doesn't get nearly enough attention as it deserves. It's absolutely stunning, and rare as hell too- I can't find the CD anywhere.

Graveyard- Hisingen Blues

70's throwback rock. Terrific album.

Ghost- Opus Eponymous

Really tight musicianship. A combination of ghostly and satanic vocals and classic sort of metal. Extremely solid debut.

EDIT: Just realised

Call me a hipster but I think it would be harder for me to name an album I listen to that alot of people know of...

Anyway, I'm gonna go with Les Discrets new album Ariettes Oubliees, not an unknown album by any stretch but it is my album of the year so far so I would like to share it.

Throwing Copper, by the band LIVE. Mainly for this song:

The lyrics make zero sense but I still like it..

Probably Blotnik Brothers December Bastardized Set 2004, an Electro DJ set or Rick West - Original Flavor Release Party Live@Ampitheater, Ybor City, a Florida Breaks set I grabbed from the radio.
