As some have said before me, I love outsmarting people, even if it's technically an inanimate object..
I'm a very cerebral person, and when you plan something like a sneak attack out, and it goes perfectly, it's one of the most satisfying feelings a game can do for me.

I like it when I have multiple options to approach a situation.

Taking out the lights and silently knifing enemies one by one
Hiding in plain sight, yet camoflaged, and moving reaaaaaly slowly
Shooting everyone with a tranq gun
Quickly and silently getting through without killing anyone

I like overhearing conversation, like one level in Mafia II where (if you let them live long enough) a building's guards invent the video game.

Killing off people quietly and disposing of the bodies always gives me the greatest satisfaction. I much prefer the sight and sound of a kill to that of simply knocking someone out. It's breaking my heart that i'm having to do a pacifist run in Deus Ex Human Revolution just for the sodding achievement. But even if i wasn't going for the achievement, you get less points for killing folks than you do for knocking them out, which is a bit of a bum rap in my honest opinion.

Honestly, why give you kick-ass arm sword blade things if you're going to be punished for using them?!

Killing people...[small]Silently[/small]

It makes me feel like a super-mega Badass when I fall from the sky and kill the person that broke my fall.

Did you hear that satisfying crunch, kids?

Playing Thief, fucking up incredibly bad, beating a guard to death with a blackjack in a back alley, having a random dude notice, filling him with arrows, sneaking back into the house and realising you can still do this.

Now, that is a good friggin' feeling.

I like both Hitman and splinter cell. I would never let myself get out of a level without silent assassin on Hitman, in fact I'd be even more of a dick to myself and say that only accidents were allowed. and in splinter cell I wouldn't fire a single bullet or gadget instead opting for grabbing every single enemy in a choke hold.

Then splinter cell: conviction came out and I was sad. It was a fun game but it wasn't a splinter cell game. If they'd just created an entirely new series called Conviction or something and tweaked some plot details then I would have been happy because this would mean that more classic style splinter cell games may be in the pipeline.
Wow, I did the exact same thing as you in both Hitman and Splinter Cell, and I also have the exact same opinion on Conviction... It's actually a little creepy.

OT: I suppose the best aspect of stealth games for me is the sense of accomplishment you get, especially when you succeed in plans you have created. Many other games seem to be so linear that it's almost like I'm not playing at all. In a normal FPS I might take out some bad guys in a base, but someone else would make the plan (or my character would) and then all I have to do is walk in and use my character's superior accuracy, guns, and bullet-resistance to mow everyone down. The fact that I succeed is often almost nothing to do with me, whereas in most stealth games I feel personally responsible for my victories.
