You named it right there: Monopoly.
Nothing beats whatching your friends and family suffer as you force them to give you all their money. Then bend the rules a bit, pretending to be nice, to extend the suffering!
Muhahaha!

Right now I'm really digging Risk: Legacy. I'm not sure how much play it can get after 15 goes but it's quite fun so far.

I've always been fond of Monopoly. I was at one point trying to see how many different editions of it I could get my hands on. I gave that up after a while though.

Settling Catan is always fun. Risk 2210 is also always a good time. One I recently played that was really neat was Lords of Waterdeep. Need to try that one again...

Game of Life. There was a version I got in the 80s that I loved to play. I tried the 2000s version, but it was too complicated.

Trivial Pursuit. I was so good that I was never allowed to play with my exes family. They bought different versions of the game just to see if they can stump me. It did not matter if it was 90s, 80s, Classic, Genius, Movies, Music or Sports. They never could beat me.

One time with the sports edition, I had to tell them, "I'm not into Sports. You Guys are. Do you know how bad its making you look knowing that I'm going to win this game?"

I like Scrabble, Monopoly (as long as I'm not playing with people who take it super-serious and get shitty when they start losing) and Articulate which is like Trivial Pursuit mixed with Charades. Its great fun with close friends or family when you're all a bit drunk.

I used to play Monopoly, Life, Checkers, Chess and Parcheesi a lot when I was younger.

The family cat would frequently interrupt by taking leisurely strolls across the board. Since picking her up would result in the devastation of the mediteranean as paws went in all directions we'd only risk that if it looked like she was about to sit down.
Civ was great but what made it even better was this:

Avalon Hill made such great games before Hasbro took them over and destroyed them.

Arkham Horror, Cluedo, Chess and Warhammer 40k are my favorites.
Star of Afrika (Afrikas Stjärna) is also a nice one (mainly due to nostalgia).

Sorry for being picky here, but... not a boardgame. :p

Anyway, mine is either Space Crusade or Space Hulk. Oh, and Battletech!

Do "Games are art"- "Tera"- or "Dlc" threads count?
If not i`d say cards.

...this went wrong.

Ok, then i`ll have to take "Siedler von Catan" but that`s really ages ago and i don`t know the englisch name (Settlers of Catan? don`t know, sorry).

In my early youth i loved to play Hero and Space Quest.

Either Dominion, Tide of Iron, Diplomacy, Runewars, Doom but most likely Battlestar Galactica. But there are so many that i love to play!

(just check boardgamegeek.com for all these.)

*edit: or Smallworld, Shogun, Axis and Allies, Minion Hunter or Arkham Horror maybe!

Chess is probably my favorite *board?* game.

If that doesn't count then it is Risk. I'm usually more of a Card's player though, like Hold'em Poker.

I have always found Chess to be a perfect game. I just love it, but finding people that are both good and can handle losing but still want to play, is hard to find. I usually enjoy teaching people how to play though, like my young cousins for example.
