Good Omens, by Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman, hands down.

The closest second is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

Most annoying ending I have ever read.
To be honest the ending left me feeling nothing... The kind of nothing where you say 'Is that it?', I mean personally I loved every book before the 14th one, yes I said 14th

[sub][sub][sub][sub]Not really you dumbass. [/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
You knew I could read that last line, right?
If I didn't want it read then I wouldn't have put it there *comedicly points to the last line of my post that you quoted*
If that ws the case, why bother to make it small? why not normal sized, or even big with rainbow colored letters?

Lord of the Rings series (all of it, including the Silmarillion).
Issac Asimov's Foundation series
Frank Herbert's Dune
Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
H.P. Lovecraft's anything he wrote.

That's really just scratching the surface of my favorite books, but those are the ones I can read at any time and probably find something new each time.

??? I ask this because I have a terrible memory, but exactly where does the 14th one take place?

You're really going to have to narrow this down to genres for me, because I read a hell of a lot. Somone lays out some genres, I'll be happy to oblige.

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. It's made of awesome. Charming wit, unique plot, and great character development. Truly a masterpiece.

The book that comes as a close second is the psychology book "När du gör som jag vill" (that's Swedish for "When you do as I want to") by Henrik Fexeus.

That book was excellent. Super genius ten year olds and what not.

OT- The Demolished Man + Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester

Catch 22 by Joseph Heller

The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury.

I'll leave it at that, although i'll probably be back to edit.

It's hard to pick JUST ONE, so here's the books I would say got read the most throughout the years:

Fiction:
Starship Troopers [http://www.amazon.com/Starship-Troopers-Robert-Heinlein/dp/B000QTD5Q6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263419911&sr=1-3]
Tailchaser's Song [http://www.amazon.com/Tailchasers-Song-Tad-Williams/dp/0886779537/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263420048&sr=1-1]
Tales of the Bounty Hunters [http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Bounty-Hunters-Star-Wars/dp/0553568167/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263420089&sr=1-1]
The Forever War [http://www.amazon.com/Forever-War-Joe-Haldeman/dp/0312536631/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263420139&sr=1-3]

The paperback copies I have of all of those have been read and re-read so many times that they're wearing out and starting to fall apart just from having been read so much. I also have a couple non-fiction books that have also similarly been read to death:

Non-Fiction:
Entering Space: Creating a Spacefaring Civilization [http://www.amazon.com/Entering-Space-Creating-Spacefaring-Civilization/dp/1585420360/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263420390&sr=8-1]
The New Manufacturing Challenge [http://www.amazon.com/New-Manufacturing-Challenge-Techniques-Improvement/dp/0029320402/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263420484&sr=1-1]

The above six books have ALL been read at least a dozen times. Two of them have been read several dozen times. I'm loath to call one of them a 'favorite' over the others though, because I love them all equally but in different ways.

But, considering that the opening post was 'Your favorite book.', singular, then I'm going to go with Tales of the Bounty Hunters. [http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Bounty-Hunters-Star-Wars/dp/0553568167/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263420089&sr=1-1] If you like short stories and Star Wars then that's some quality reading there.

EDIT:
Fixed a typo.

EDIT:
Fixed ANOTHER snafu that I just noticed.

Well about 8/10 through the pages of book 13 the actual book ends but there are still about 20 or 30 odd pages left so after 2 or 3 pages it gives the title book 14 or something like that and it gives you the epilogue, so basically book 14 is in book 13

Edit: *Minor spoiler* But the orphans are still on the island in 14

Best book I've read in the last few months has to be Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow. Its really a different kind of monster. Its written in free verse and has a story that reads like a combo between Shakespeare, crime novel and monster horror movie.
