Liz and Ard from wild arms 2
You sir, have my Wild Arms seal of approval. I find it hard to pick one, but I LOVED the bosses in Wild Arms 3 period. If not only because a lot of them required actual strategy, but many had UNIQUE battle musics. Don't see that often enough in RPG's anymore. Usually they have a handful, (if you're lucky) of boss musics they recycle until the end boss, even for characters who should have definitely had their own theme when you finally fight them.

Edit: Dang, ninja's by another Wild Arms enthusiast. Can't say I mind :p
Super Edit: Ooooh, a Wild Arms music battle is it? I'll see your Boomerang and raise you...

Also, best rival group ever. To quote a youtube poster "A copycat with a machine gun in her dress, a samurai with an afro, a dynamite wielding boy, and a cat with cool wings. Yep, those are the Schrodingers XD". Nuff' said.

Biolizard / Final Hazard, sonic adventure 2

An awesome set of bosses wrapping up a very satisfying story mode. The biolizard was difficult, trying to find and avoid its attack patterns through trial and error all set to unnerving yet catchy music. Finally defeating it was probably in my top five moments of awesome, finding out there was one more boss left was both an "Are you freaking kidding me" moment as well as one of pure joy. The Final Hazard was probably the most fun boss fight I have ever played. You never feel like it is impossible to win, but at the same time it is not a cakewalk. Plus you get to listen to the games theme song during the battle, which fits perfectly.
A VERY good choice, indeed, sir. An excellent way to cap off Sonic's career for Sega consoles. And the music is just perfect. Live and Learn is still my favorite Sonic song, bar NONE.

My nomination, however, is going to be the Possessed Riku fight from the first Kingdom Hearts. A very fair yet intense fight that pushed me to my limits and shot my adrenaline through the roof.

Mephisto in Diablo 2.

That fight is awesome, took my GF and I about 2 hours because we had such weak characters.

---

Also, Roxas vs. Axle at the start of Kingdom Hearts 2

I was all like "Wow, dual wielding Keyblades!!!"

The 2 that come to mind are the battle with Nintails and Orochi (past) in Okami. Ninetails was overall annoying, but the scene before the fight is really clever and when you try to use your brush powers it (he/she?) tries to paint its own symbols. The Orochi (past) fight is awesome for a similar reason. You are joined by Shiranui who, when you try to use brush powers, draws his own, which are overpowered versions of your abilities. Though it is disappointing that you never get to use these ultra brush powers yourself.

Well, after a hell of a lot of thought, I finally decided to go with one of my all-time favorite games... It was higher up on my "best gaemz evar" list until I played the sequel and then took a good long look at the fanbase.

Anyways.
Honestly I love the fight against Kratos. No, not that one! The one from the JRPG! It was pretty intense back when I was a no-skilled, action replay using brat, and it was still intense when I played through as I am today, a somewhat skilled brat who refuses to cheat... At least, I refuse to cheat until AFTER I beat a game.

Actually, I have to pick two from this particular series, since these two fights come to mind almost immediately. You didn't say we can't have more than one!

Asch the Bloody. Y'know, Tales of the Abyss is probably one of the most well-written games I've ever seen, and undeniably my favorite of the whole Tales series.

The duel against Asch is probably one of my favorite showdowns of any game, really. It's primarily because of the context of the fight.

I need to get back to replaying both of those games, come to think of it... So many other games I need to beat though, and realizing that I apparently have some built-in love of Zelda games that just throws four more games onto the already huge pile.

Well played, sir! To take a quote from The Whitest Kids You Know:

"It's a gentlemen's challenge! May the best man win!"

Treasure ( the guys behind gunstar heros) are one of the very best dev houses when it comes to boss battles. Anyone who loves boss battles owe it to themselves to check out their games

The 2D indie games Noitu Love 1 & 2 have good bosses and so does the rest of Konjack's games (he is a massive treasure fan after all)

Theres also some good boss battles in the Contra seris

Aswell as the platform and run'n gun genres, theres plenty of shmups with great multilayered bosses.

The rail shooter genre has some great bosses (star fox, panzer dragoon plus the 2 sin and punishment games by Treasure)

I have to say Father Baldur and Jubileus from Bayonetta for the above mentioned reasons, the final battle against Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time because it was made of WIN, The Mother from Dragon Age: Awakening, and the final level of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

A classic to be sure. Alrighty, this one is hard to find because the OST omitted the song for whatever hair-brained reason, but here it is nonetheless.

Aight I have to say... Tubba Blubba's Heart from Paper Mario. As a kid I loved feeling so clever when I realized that I can use Bow to go invisible right when he's about to do his super-duper-extreme-attack :3

I would have to say Agni and Rudra from Devil May Cry 3.

One of the hardest boss fights in that game besides Cerberus but they weren't cheap at all plus you got one of the best weapons in the game afterwards.

Why, you ask? The fight was exhilarating for a number of reasons. Being stuck in a dark, secluded underground passage with a maniac wielding a flamethrower had seemed pretty intimidating at the time of the encounter. I found myself carefully navigating the passageways, in fear that the pyromaniac would take notice to my intrusion, reducing me to a pile of ashes.
I loved the fight with the Fury but not because it was difficult. Once you realized that you could just lurk at the back of the map it was a push over. But it was still utterly gorgeous.

I'm going to go with the final throw down with ocelot in MGS4. Why? because it was brutal.

No gear
No guns
Just fists

Ocelot was the main constant in the series, everything bad that happened traced back to him. A bare knuckle, knock down, drag out, curb-stomping death match was the only answer.
