....except they must be of the opposite gender than you are.

So, males post thier favorite FEMALE characters from books, anime, games, etc.
And females post thier faverite MALE characters from books, anime, games, etc.

I really like that dress! Obvoiusly my favorite traveling companion for Ash. Diehard Advanceshipper right here.

She is the commander of her nations most dangerous/feared military outpost, Fort Briggs, and wrestles BEARS for combat training! To say she is "extremely dangerous and a badass" would be an understatement.

Sniper. Sharpshooter. Badass. What more is there to say?

Ed's automail mechanic, love interest, and wife (as per the final episode). She usually rates high in fan polls. *looks at outfit* I cant imagine why....

Cool girls dont look at explosions.

EDIT: *sees all the Teen Titans*

Badass warrior princess. Whats not to love about that.

Easy topic is easy :D

Squad leader of Public Security Section 9, a division of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission. She's a cyborg, which in the GiTS universe, means that she has a completely prosthetic body, but her consciousness, or 'ghost' is still present, which is what seperates cyborgs from robots/androids etc. She's basically the SAS in one person :D

Zoe is Mal Reynolds second in command. What does that mean? It means she's the best damn bro a Browncoat could ever have :D
A very strong woman, both mentally and physically and loyal to the very end.

I foresee many mentions of Tali in this thread and my list is no exception. A brilliant engineer, a selfless and caring individual with a slight edge.

What? You expected maybe Zoidberg?
Ammy is... well, she's Ammy :D
A Japanese Sun Goddess from the Shinto religion, in Okami, she takes the form of a wolf, travelling the world of Nippon, fighting evil and righting wrongs.

She's like Batman. But more awesome.

Yoko Littner, maybe?

Will Vandom, for reasons probably other than the character itself.

Taiga from Toradora.

Azumanga daioh: Osaka.

Mio and Hakase from Nichijou.

My list ( in no particular order)

1.)

She is the best bounty hunter evah!}

2.)

I know she's a little racist, but damn it I lover her :)

3.)

Gawd! Dat Accent!

4.)

Such loyalty. No better friend :)

5.)

...She's just hot. That's about it ;)

Them's my gerls :p

5)

Mass Effect: Liara T'soni
Just a good, well rounded character. Plus, she's not a racist and doesn't represent the little sister character, so she's the best romance.

4)

Rave Master: Ellie
Probably some personal bias in here considering she was the main character in my first ever proper long term manga series, but she an enjoyable character to have in the books. Ends up having quite a bit of good development too, shows a lot of dedication to her cause.
Shame the artist is such a fucking perv and it's really hard to find pictures of her not in a bikini so I can keep this safe for work.

3)

Bayonetta
She's fucking Bayonetta, what else do you want?!

2)
Now this is a draw for me:

Nier: Kaine
Okay, her status as a 'she' is somewhat questionable, but regardless, she's great. She good and strong, has minimal damsel moments, has some great banter, especially with Weiss, and she's voiced by Laura Goddamn Bailey.
Voice boner activated.

The other candidate is:

Persona 4: Rise Kujikawa
Again, voiced by Laura Bailey, so there's some bias in there, but she's just a great addition to a great cast.
I think Kaine juuuust wins as she has more going for her by herself.

1)

Persona 4: Nanako Dojima
SHE IS MY NEW LITTLE SISTER AND SHE IS MY FAVORITE.

Also this

Took me a while to think about this actually. I need to pay more attention to characters.

I have to second this. Also, let's see for others:

Konoko from Oni

"Prepare to be beaten up by a girl!"

Yeah, she's that cool.

Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender

She's just cute. Also, she can bend metal and kick your ass.

Kalliyan from Bloodlines (Clan Quest Mod 3.1)

OK, I'm not sure how much she counts but she's a new NPC introduced in CQM. And it's probably one of the most awesome quests, introduced by a mod, I've played. And Kalliyan is just so sweet. You go clubbing with her, by the way, that's her quest.

Let's see... In no specific order... And my memory is shoddy, so I've probably forgotten a few

Raven from Teen Titans

Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2 (I know I haven't played it, don't need to see much to know she's awesome)

Ty Lee from Avatar

Lessa from Dragonriders of Pern

Luna from Harry Potter

[edit] Damn, I forgot Toph! not sure how... She's in there somewhere as well.

All of my favorite characters are of the opposite gender, so this isn't exactly difficult.

I'll try to keep it to top 5. It'll be hard, but I think I can do it. In no order (other than number 1):

1. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy from Mass Effect. Her character development throughout the series is quite well done, and her looks do not hurt. Plus, she gets some of the best snark lines in the series.

2. Aveline from Dragon Age II. It's very nice to see a female character who is feminine, but strong at the same time. And again, she is responsible for some of the funniest moments in that game.

3. Samus Aran from Metroid. Ignoring the game which shall not be mentioned, Samus is just a pure badass, and a case of a female character in a non-RPG who does not need to be sexualized. She's a bounty hunter who happens to be female, not a female who happens to be a bounty hunter.

4. Raven from Teen Titans. Between her snark, her interesting character, and her figure, she is the classic definition of "jail bait". But even outside of that, her character is quite interesting, and Tara Strong does a great job portraying her.

5. Winry Rockbell. I mean, have you seen a picture of her? Hot damn, she ticks off so many boxes...*ahem*

I'll just stick with some examples from TV and games, if I went through films I could be here all day:

Daria Morgendorffer - Incredibly sarcastic, witty, cynical, astute and insightful as well as exhibiting levels of apathetic indifference to everything around her that I could only dream to reach. Never afraid of speaking her mind and I really admire that.

Elliot Reid - She's a paranoid and utterly bonkers trainwreck in motion with nerves of styrofoam and a penchant for putting her foot in her mouth. If you haven't already guessed, I find her very relatable and yet in spite of her shortcomings she's dedicated, determined and passionate about her work and always pulls herself back up in turbulent times.

Alyx Vance - She's a smart, tech savvy, gun-slinging badass who's unwaveringly devoted to the cause and those close to her. Always tries to maintain a cool head and upbeat demeanour and manages to be one of the few companion characters that can actually handle herself, is a significant asset rather than a hindrance and has a personality that actually makes you want to keep her around.

Tali'Zorah vas Normandy - She's skilled, resourceful, fiercely loyal and compassionate; does everything she can for the Migrant Fleet and just all around shows a tremendous amount of guts and spirit, retaining a sense of humility all the while.

Pinkie Pie - What can I say? She makes me smile. :) She's just so utterly insane, vivacious and capricious that she's always entertaining to watch.

Honourable mention to Paula Small and Melissa from Home Movies.

Feminine? You mean Mighty Man-jaw? I think she even had facial hair she was so mannish. I will agree with her being funny though :)

1. Okay, people probably saw this coming-

His voice is just made of sex and I actually found his character really interesting and he and my Hawke really hit it off. Would bang.
2. I dunno if I'm allowed to include TV and movies cause it wasn't mentioned but I'm going to.

No offense to Matt Smith, I just preferred these guys. To be honest I felt they dealth with the `heavier` side of the Doctor better. Favourite DT episode- Tooth and Claw, CE episode- Empty child & Doctor Dances
3.
What can I say? He's just... adorable.
4.
I put them together because they both belong here and I'm only doing five and they're both Ian Mckellen and he's just freaking awesome
5. Not sure if he counts, but he was the first thing to come to mind of characters in books.
Reaperman is one of my favourite Terry Pratchett books, and I always enjoy it when Death turns up in any of his books, even if just for a bit. He's the most likable Death I know of.

This is in no particular order (I have difficulty deciding):
Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin: Wandering Samurai
Christopher Eccleston as Doctor Who
Vol'jin from World of Warcraft
Sir Ian McKellen in anything he's in
Sherlock from the books and the series. I feel like they did a good job characterizing him.

Let's see here... This is actually a tough call, because there are alot of female characters who really are good.

Obvious choice is Motoko Kusinagi, for being The Major and therefore most-capable member of Section 9.

Another good one is Naoto Shirogane, for her role in Persona 4 as a young brilliant detective who has access to a GUN at her age, of all things.

Lucy from Elfen Lied, because a Diclonius can be WTF scary and powerful, and tragic.

Definitely Ed from Cowboy Bebop.

Finally, a special kind of shout-out to not Rei from Eva, but in fact Rei from the story, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Nobody Dies, an epic fanfic more entertainin than the damn show!
