By Pieces, I mean songs/Symphonies/Singles anything as long as it fits in the time period of
Classical and Neo-Classical time frame, so from now and the last billion years.

I'll start with a modern piece from a french composer I am currently loving and this would happen to be

Rue Des Cascades by Yann Tiersen (He did the st for the film Amelie)

This piece will always be with me as my favorite, so I pose this to you escapist... whats your favorite classical pieces/composers etc.

I loved Rhapsody in Blue, but I guess that's not quite "classical." Igor's Paradise was really good, and I'm going to be the first one to say Paschelbel's Canon. Good for me!

Very nice, I wasn't too fond on Phantom of the opera but we can't all like the same thing,

I think my next contribution will be! Brahms symphony No.1 for anybody reading this trying to start getting into classical, I feel this is a must.

I would have said Mendelssohns Violin Concerto myself. It opens with the violin soloist and immediately draws people in, doesn't have the long protracted buildup that a lot of other pieces have.

Truth be told, I've never looked into Mendelssohn, I will look about for it now..

Richard Wagner's Tannhauser - Overture - 15 minutes of pure epicness; the buildup is pastoral, and the 2:00 mark is amazing, as if the grand finale.

Franz Lizst's Dante Symphony - Inferno is the most distinctly horror-themed piece yet, and Purgatorio/Magnificat is the most peaceful I've ever heard.

George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue - The eclectic, jazzy progression is infectious, and the sweeping crescendoes that start around the 10:00 mark are beautiful.

Philip Glass's entire Koyaanisqatsi score - Haunting, repetitive, and unique, the creepiness factor and the epic factor blend together perfectly.

Ludovico Einaudi's Andare - Paced and sweet, this solo piano is meditative, content to constrain itself to a level, romantic tone rife with perfect measures.

Philip Glass's Powaqqatsi: Anthem - Part 3 - Singlehandedly the most intense, epic 8 minutes I've ever had the pleasure of listening to; the booming choral arrangements and the rhythmic underscoring blows me away.

Peter Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture - It's hard to find the ideal audio quality for this piece, but the peaceful start, with the intense and grand buildup is always worth it.
